1 SquadLink THIS MONTH We hosted the MLC Junior Star Classic in September with over 400 gymnasts competing over 1.5 days!! And the National Club Championships was a successful trip again.amazingly orchestrated by Anna Francis and her team making sure everyone got to where they needed to be and looking after the gymnasts ensuring they were well fed and had plenty of fun! These are the memories that are cherished. Then there was the Regional Championships for L3-6 which capped off an exhausting week for most of them, and how can we not mention Lauren Pengelly who travelled to New Zealand to compete for Australia in the National Levels Tour?! COMPETITION UPDATE Congratulations to all the gymnasts, coaches and staff who travelled to Bendigo for the National Club Championships (NCC). From all reports, it was a great week with a bit of gymnastics, a bit of park fun, a bit of ten pin bowling...and some excellent results too! We are pleased to announce that MLC Gymnastics came 4th in Australia!! Woohoo!!! A magnificent team effort! Below are some more NCC results.

2 COMPETITION UPDATE cont. Our Level 10 s (combined L9s & 10s) kicked off the event with gold. This means they are the best gymnasts in Australia at this level.not a bad claim! Not only did they win the Level 10 All Around (AA) Team Title, they also won gold on Bars, Beam and Floor! The best thing is they are a great bunch of girls who work extremely hard and are wonderful role models for our younger gymnasts. That s a whole lot of boxes being ticked!! And how could we not mention that Lauren Pengelly (L10; centre) and Olivia Burnett (L10; left) came 1st and 2nd overall, respectively, on an individual basis. This is the only level that they award individual placings at the National Club Championships. More of National Clubs week in pictures...

Australian Level 10 Tour Team Congratulations to Lauren Pengelly (far left) who travelled to New Zealand to compete as part of the Level 10 Australian Team at the New Zealand National Championships. Lauren came 3rd All Around and 2nd on beam!! Junior Victorian Championships Qualifiers The gymnasts who qualified from the Regional Championships and who may qualify after this weekend s Repecharge event for the Junior Victorian Championships Finals in November, will be announced in full in the next edition of Squad Link.

4 COMPETITION UPDATE cont. MLC JUNIOR STAR CLASSIC A HUGE THANK YOU to all of the families who volunteered and/or provided donations for the MLC Junior Star Classic held on the 16th & 17th September. It was a very busy and exciting event with over 430 gymnasts from 22 different Clubs competing throughout the weekend. A particular thank you goes to those parents who stayed on for double shifts or assisted on both days of the event to fill the gaps in the roster, especially in the canteen and BBQ areas. We raised an impressive $7, from the door entry, raffle tickets and canteen/bbq sales thanks to your efforts!! The MLC Gymnastics events simply could not run without your assistance and we appreciate all the time and effort you all put in to ensure they are a success. 5 FRIENDLY REMINDERS There s no easy way of saying it so a pic and a friendly reminder to everyone will hopefully prompt some parent/daughter conversations and purchases The gymnasts train hard and as a result, perspire; some of us more than others. This is not only the case for pre-teens and teens but also some as young as 8 and 9 year olds. A spray or roll of deodorant will do the trick! PS We have no connections with Dove but this one pictured smells really nice! Is your child getting enough? For those gymnasts training several hours a week (along with the guidelines on sun protection), the opportunity to get enough vitamin D from the sun (the main natural source) isn t always possible. Vitamin D is essential for strong bones and muscles and overall health so if you think your daughter might be at risk, please speak to your doctor. GYMNAST OF THE MONTH Gymnast of the month is awarded each month (except January & December). Coaches of each squad (excluding Pre Starlets) are asked to nominate a gymnast who they believe is a role model for others in the squad and for younger gymnasts in the club and have also shown improvement in one or more areas over the month. From the nominees, a Gymnast of the Month (for the competitive program) is then selected. All nominees are awarded a certificate, and the winner a certificate & gift.
