1 SquadLink THIS MONTH Well, the year is nearly over and it seems to have gone way too quickly! But, it s been a good one with the competition season finishing off well and plenty of memories made. This month has been busy with 2 Junior Victorian Championships as well as State Team representation at the Trans Bass Challenge, two Bully Zero sessions for Star Flyers and Shooting Stars groups...and now we are preparing for the Club Championships and Presentation afternoon. By then, it will only be 17 sleeps until Christmas...just enough time to hit the shops in a last minute panic to finish off Christmas shopping...and birthday shopping for those of you lucky enough with late December/early January babies!! COMPETITION UPDATE Trans Bass Championships Congratulations to Mia Daniels (L6) and Jessica Goh (L7) on their debut as Victorian representatives at the Trans Bass Championships in Geelong at the beginning of November. Both did a great job with the following places: Mia: 3rd Vault; 3rd Floor; 4th All Around Jess: 2nd Vault; 3rd Bars; 2nd Floor Both Victorian teams also took out the team gold! Well done girls...you should be very proud!

3 GV AWARDS NIGHT Congratulations to the following people who have been listed as finalists for the Gymnastics Victoria Awards Night on Saturday 9th February 2019: 2018 Levels Gymnast of the Year Lauren Pengelly 2018 Large Club Competitive Coaching Team - Siobhan Turnbull & Alex Byers-Armstrong 2018 High Performance Coaching Team Jackie Caldwell & Tim Lees 2018 Official of the Year Anna Francis 2018 Volunteer of the Year Olivia Burnett 2018 Large Club of the Year MLC Gymnastics Will keep you all posted but should be a clean sweep if you ask me! BULLY ZERO FOUNDATION Katie Govic and Michelle Murray from the Bully Zero Foundation came to talk to the Star Flyers and Shooting Stars groups at the beginning of November on the prevention and education of bullying. The presenters were great and they made the sessions very beneficial for both the gymnasts and parents who attended. GYMNAST NEWS Congratulations to Amber Ward who qualified and represented Victoria in the National School Track & Field Championships at Lakeside stadium on Saturday 24th November. Amber qualified 3rd in her heat of the 10 & under girls 200m event. She then placed 6th in the Final!! Well done Amber!

4 STAFF NEWS So we all know how amazing Nakarin Jaikla, Dance Coordinator, is at his job...but now you can go and experience another one of his talents outside MLC Gymnastics: Nakarin is the Director & Choreographer of a performance called ENIGMA which engages all 5 senses creating an experience that includes diverse forms of art, including live percussion, soundscape, dance, acting, visual and fine arts. It s on Saturday 15th December at Harbour Town, Docklands. Click here to book tickets. Bret Nicholas, Shooting Stars Hours Coach, is off on a well deserved holiday to the USA with his son. Starting in San Francisco, they are motor-homing it with a friend for about 4 weeks. Enjoy Bret!...see you in 2019! It s time to say farewell to Alex Byers-Armstrong, Star Flyers Hours Coach, as she leaves us at the end of the year to follow her dreams of entering the world of politics. Alex has been with MLC Gymnastics for several years, starting out as a gymnast, moving across to Cheerleading and finally ending up in coaching where she has done an absolutely brilliant job. She s leaving a big gap and will be missed so much by the gymnasts and staff here at MLC. Best of luck Al! It s also time to say good bye to Lara Di Guglielmo, Star Flyers 10 Hours Coach, who will be finishing at the end of this year following her success in securing a full time post graduate position in business/finance at Kraft Heinz! Lara started out as a gymnast, moved into coaching in the Gymnastics For All Program about 8 years ago and fortunately for us, this year into the competitive program. We will certainly miss Lara and her smiley face, as will her gymnasts and we wish her all the best for her future. We still, however hope to see her fill in occasionally when she can!

5 STAFF NEWS cont. We also say farewell to Leslie Burrows, Gym Club Manager. Leslie joined us in 2013 and while coming without gymnastics experience, she was so open to understanding the diversity of our sport and its constituents which is no mean feat (it s one complex sport that is forever changing!). Leslie s caring and compassionate nature was also appreciated by the staff team. We wish her the best of luck for the future. END OF YEAR Club Championships The MLC Gymnastics Club Championships are being held this Saturday 8th December Spectators are welcome free of charge at Club Champs. Session 1: 7.30am 11.15am Session 2: 11.30am 2.15pm Shooting Stars, Star Flyers & GFA Gymstar Disney Movie Themed Team Event Starlets & Pre Starlets Team event, coloured hair accessory with pink MLC leo Presentation Day ALL competitive squad and Gymstar gymnasts and their families are also invited to attend Presentation Day after Club Championships on Saturday 8 th December from pm in the MLC Assembly Hall (Dress: Smart casual).
