The Frank C. Lowe Memorial Day Tournament was a success. The tournament was only two days due to inclement weather. The winners of day one were Janet Joyce and Paul McTigue, and the winners of day two were Jeanine Comstock and Al Dold. The men s league season started on June 3rd followed by the opening luncheon. The ladies league began on June 7th. The leagues end in early August. Social bowling is every Saturday and Sunday morning at 10:30 am. No experience is necessary, and coaching is available for new bowlers. On July 19th we will be hosting Sunset Bowling and a pizza party. The event starts at 5:30PM. Everyone is invited to come and bowl and enjoy the evening on the green. We have special events planned for August and September. There will be flyers posted in the Clubhouse. Drop in bridge is on Tuesdays from 1-3 and Thursdays from 3-5. It s hasn t been too busy yet but we are hoping now that school s out, we ll get a good crowd. Please remember we are using Sign-Up Genius this year to reserve a spot at drop in. If you aren t on our list, please send your info to Kathy Jardine at kjardine@optonline.net. The Interclub Team has completed two matches and will be hosting the match on July 20th. Good luck team!! The book club will be reading the New York Times Bestseller, Tell the Wolves I m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt. Meet us at the Tiki Bar at 7:00 on Thursday, July 19th to discuss this debut novel. All new members are welcome to attend. Happy reading! To improve pool deck cleanliness, backpacks and large totes are not allowed on the pool deck. Please store these items in your cabana, or you may place them in the cubbies near the pool fence. Members are also reminded to please leave the pool and beach areas clean upon departure. Recycling bins and trash cans are located on the boardwalk and immediately outside the pool deck areas for your convenience. The 2018 Coveleigh Swim & Dive Team is already off to a busy start and has welcomed many new swimmers and divers. The team was happy to secure a win in its first dual meet of the season against neighboring Shenorock Shore Club on June 27th. Coveleigh will compete in several meets in July, with the highlight of the season being the 40th Annual Robert W. Cease Invitational. The Cease will take place on Wednesday, July 18th with diving beginning at 3:15 pm and swimming beginning at 6:00 pm. This year s theme is Protect the Cove, so dig up your pirate gear and come out to support our team! Once again, Coveleigh will host Swim Across America in our pool to help raise funds for cancer treatments and research. Our pool swim with be held on Monday, July 23rd at 3 pm. 5 We had a great membership season. This year the Board accepted 24 memberships to Coveleigh. For those keeping count, when factoring LOAs and resignations, Coveleigh added five memberships on a net basis. We continue to see a strong pipeline of candidates. Based on our interviews with candidates for membership, there is a lot of buzz about Coveleigh with the capital improvements, new chef and of course best in class tennis program and summer camp. I m excited about getting to know the new Associates and all they will bring to the Coveleigh family. Our next candidate reception will be in the fall so get those sponsorship letters ready! Our candidate pool is only as good as our evaluation process and this year we made a number of improvements to an already strong process. First, we reorganized our approach to the evaluation process. We established classes. Each new candidate is assigned to a class. This year we had three classes, each named for the Club before it became Coveleigh - Mayfair, Breakfast Club, and Peningo. These classes are managed by a subcommittee made up of six membership committee members who usher the class through the entire process. This approach allows for more touch points in our assessment process and consequently, an improved evaluation from membership and vetting by Admissions and the Board. Next, we placed more emphasis on the sponsors and their familiarity with the candidate. It is obvious that if one knows Coveleigh and its vibe, it s easy to sponsor families that will easily fit in the Club. We strengthened the Associate Family review process. What a better way to determine whether a family is a good fit in Coveleigh than to interact with them while at Coveleigh? The Associate Family designation is a two-year trial period that gives the new members and Coveleigh a chance to see if it works for both of us. Each year the Board makes the determination whether an Associate should become a Regular Member. We want to enhance the review process by encouraging comments from Coveleigh members and Ted s staff as to the members adherence to Club rules and overall fit with Coveleigh s culture and values. Finally, we improved transparency around our process through Cov Current articles that highlight our process, who to contact with questions or comments (any Membership Committee member, Board or Admissions committee member or me or covmembership@icloud.com ), enhanced website and handbook material and a new Coveleigh Orientation book. With these enhancements I believe we have a robust candidate evaluation process that can go head to head with any other club in the country. One last thing. I want to thank Steve Foley for his incredible dedication as Membership Governor over the past six years. Steve worked tirelessly as Membership Gov and was always there providing leadership and support when needed. If you don t know him, Steve is good natured, kind hearted, principled and overall just a good guy. Thank you, Steve, for your contribution to Coveleigh. This Club is a better place because of you. With all the clubs here in Westchester, why did they choose Coveleigh?

6 This year, Coveleigh was fortunate to have many wonderful new families join the Club. One family in particular; Mark and Christine Brookfield, joined the rest of the Brookfield family completing this family's legacy. With all the clubs here in Westchester, why did they choose Coveleigh? It all started in 1986, when Kit and Eleanor Brookfield decided to join the Coveleigh Club with their children, Michelle who was 9 years old and Mark was 7. They were looking for a club that would be able to offer more than their local day camp. This was also the same time that Westchester Country Club was offering great incentives for young families to join. Although both Kit and Mark were avid golfers, they decided that Westchester was just too large. Kit s parents had been members of Manursing and he had spent many summers growing up on the beaches there. But in the end, it was Coveleigh that they chose for its friendliness and safe, family atmosphere. Even after 32 years, they still feel that it was the best decision for their family. Why did Michelle decide to join years later? It was her fond memories of spending her summers at Coveleigh that she wanted for her own children. She remembers as a child watching all the beautiful weddings take place on the upper lawn dreaming one day of her own special wedding. Not only did her wedding reception take place at Coveleigh, but her baby shower as well. For Michelle, it was only fitting that the most special events in her life take place at her second home, Coveleigh. Michelle and Scott Polhman wanted their children Wally and Ella to create their own lasting memories. It was only a matter of time before both Mark and Christine decided that they also wanted to join Coveleigh. Althought driving from Rowayton was a consideration, what mattered the most was being with family. As a child, Mark spent many summers on the swim team, playing tennis, locker tag, and eating lots of Chipwiches! These are the memories that they want for their twin daughters, Grace and Morgan. Spending special time with their grandparents and being able to play all summer long with their cousins. Maybe, one day Wally, Ella, Grace and Morgan will also join as members with their own families. And the Coveleigh legacy lives on...
