Please accept my apology for holding up the printing of the Singe Voice for November I have been very ill the last 6 months which has finally been diagnosed as COPD/Asthma. Just when I start feeling better, the weather changes or I come in contact with someone who is sick and I catch their cold, etc. Hopefully soon I will learn to better control my health problems. Of course, this illness has slowed down my square dancing activities. I still promote TASSD at every opportunity. Monday, December 31, 2018 I am organizing the HSRDC Singles New Years Eve Dance in Sugar Land, TX. We are looking forward to many TASSD Officers and members attending and supporting this dance. Of course, this event is a golden opportunity to advertise TASSD s 45 th Round Up March 7-9, TASSD Singles Liaison Carol Teal (HSRDC Caller of the Year 2018) will be the caller. Thursday, January 3, 2019, I organized a Square Dance Exhibition at Alief AARP. HSRDC Caller of the Year 2018 Carol Teal will be the caller. Fairbees Square Dance Club will provide the dancers. Saturday, February 9, 2019 TASSD is sponsoring a bus load of square dancers to attend the 10 th Annual February Frenzy in Port Lavaca, TX. As President of TASSD I am organizing this bus trip. If you live in or near Houston, TX and wish to ride the FREE Harris County Precinct 3 Bus, please contact me to reserve a seat on the bus. Saturday, September 8, 2018 I organized a bus load of square dancers to attend Tomball Promenaders 33 rd Anniversary Dance. Lee Hailey was the caller and Ed & Martha Koslosky were the cuers. A great time was had by all. Lee Hailey was in his best high energy and fun filled form. Friday & Saturday, September 14 & 15, 2018, I organized a carload of TASSD Officers & Members to travel to New Braunfels, TX for Fun-Sti-Toot. Callers were Gary Sanders, Chet Miles & Fred Goynes. Cuers were Tammy & Marvin Lee. Several TASSD Officers and Members met us there. We renewed old friendships and had a wonderful time

2 wearing our TASSD Red & White and promoting TASSD s 45 th Round Up March 7-9, Friday & Saturday, October 5 th & 6 th, 2018, TASSD VP- SE Jean Matthews and I traveled to Texas State Federation Square & Round Dance Meeting in Amarillo, TX. We met up with TASSD Immediate Past President Billy Hurt, TASSD VP-NE Carolyn Barringer, TASSD VP-West Danny Kingsley and several TASSD members. It was a pleasure to see so many TASSD officers and members support TSFSRD, especially since we are the new kids on the block (TSFSRD s newest member). Friday & Saturday, October 26 th & 27 th, 2018, TASSD VP-E Jean Matthews and I set up a TASSD Table and organized a Singles/Solos section at HSRDC s (Houston Square & Round Dance Council) Hoedown at Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX. TASSD Officers and members made quite an impact wearing our TASSD Red & White. It was a great opportunity to publicize TASSD s 45 th Round Up. I organized a Harris County Bus Load of possible new dancers who came to see the festivities on Saturday night. Four of them plan to sign up for square dance lessons in January Saturday, November 10, 2018, I organized a bus load of square dancers to attend Hanger Squares Charity Dance benefiting American Heart Association In Friendswood, TX. Callers were Bill Minger, Stu Ringer, Gary Sanders, and Carol Teal. We had a great time dancing to so many different callers. Saturday, November 17, 2018, I organized the HSRDC Singles Dance in Sugar Land, TX. Caller was Stu Ringer ( The Voice ) who performed all singing calls. Many TASSD Officers and members attended and TASSD s 45 th Round Up was advertised. Saturday, December 15, 2018, I organized the HSRDC s bus trip to see Houston, Texas Christmas Lights. There were 35 square dancers on the bus and door prizes were awarded. We had a great time traveling around downtown Houston and River Oaks. Thursday, December 20, 2018, I visited Fairbees Toys for Tots Dance. Dennis Ray was the caller. Many toys were collected for disadvantaged children. Saturday, December 22, 2018, I attended Frontier Squares Final Dance in Webster, TX. Bob Baier was the caller. Approximately 100 people attended. It was nice to cee old friends but it is always very sad to see a square dance club fold. I was a member of Frontier Squares for 10 years but moved to another club closer to my home. Hopefully, the few Frontier Squares members will continue dancing at another nearby club. Now is the time to really work at advertising TASSD. Our 45 th Round Up is getting closer and closer. SHARE THE JOY DANCING AT TASSD! TASSD Northwest Area News By Carolyn Barringer, Vice-President The Lone Stars have been busy dancing and visiting other clubs. Billy Hurt and I went to the Federation Dance in Amarillo, Texas. We have visited the Fort Worth Squares and Road Runners Clubs. The Cotton Pickin Squares, Swinging Stars, Dixie Chainers, Kissin Kuzzins, Texas Reelers Square Dance Club, and Rockwall Squares. Quite a few members of Lone Star Solos attended the NORTEX ROUNDUP in Grapevine, Texas, and had a great time. I was just elected to be the 2019 President of Lone Stars and I am looking forward to a good year. We are celebrating our 54 th Lone Star Anniversary on November 29, Waco Stars are still dancing at Allemande Hall, 106 West Lake Drive, Speegleville, Texas. Wichita Falls Solos dance the first Tuesday with Pot Luck Supper and Workshop at 7:00 pm and third Saturday at 7:30 pm. TASSD Southeast Area News By Jean Matthews, Vice-President As usual, the fall season has been filled with lots of fun dances in the Southeast area. On September 6, 2018, the Fairbees hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Dance at our new location, Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, 1215 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas. The event was well attended by club members and lots of visitors as well. On September 14-15, 2018, I attended the Fun-Sti- Toot Dance in New Braunfels, Texas. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the dances, as well as the after parties. I am a delegate for TASSD and I traveled to Amarillo, Texas, along with Jan Albers, TASSD President, to attend the Texas State Federation of Square and Round Dancer s President s Meeting. This meeting took place on October 5-6, 2018, and was hosted by Top of Texas Square and Round Dance Association. I met a lot of dancers from the Lubbock area as well as many other locations in Texas. It was a great experience and I learned a lot. Alvin Country Squares had their Annual Barn Dance on October 12, The caller was Gary Sanders and Cuer was Marilyn Waguespack. The Houston Square and Round Dance Council had their 70 th Annual Houston Hoedown at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas. It was a full weekend with a Friday afternoon Beat the Rush dance and a Friday Night Dance with Houston Area callers and Cuers On Saturday there were workshops followed by the main event the Saturday Night Dance with caller Dan Nordbye,and cuers Bob and Lynn Van Atta. It was a great weekend.

3 The holidays are close and there are lots of good dances planned for November and December in and around Houston. See the Upcoming Dances section for more information. TASSD Southwest Area News By Mary Alice Troxel, Vice-President The Southwest area square dancers have been busy with new dancer classes, teen scholarship dances, and other special events. On Saturday, November 3, many callers, cuers and dancers attended a brainstorming session hosted by Wayne Weston, caller. They met to discuss ways to increase participation in our wonderful activity. Brooke Peters, Vice President of the ASRDA, provided several ideas for an advertising campaign to Make the public aware of square dancing and upcoming January lessons. Flexibility appears to be the key when recruiting new dancers. Brooke wrote a special poem entitled Santa Learns to Square Dance (A Few Weeks Before Christmas.) A potluck Dinner and square dance followed the brainstorming session. Many cubs are planning special dances to honor their veterans. Brown Santa dances will be held in December. Chili Suppers and tamale dances are held in the San Antonio region. Check the Alamo Association website for details. The South Texas SARDA held their fall dance at Our Lady of the Lake International Folk Center. Ron and Pat Plouch cued and Gary Cowboy Sanders called this fun dance. This association will hold it s 10 th Annual February Frenzy on February 8-9, 2019, at Bauer Community Center, Port Lavaca, Texas. LaQuinta Inn & Suites is the host hotel. Call the hotel to reserve your room. Don t use the 800 number. Several special dances are on the calendar for the holidays and winter months. December 2: Fundancers Christmas Dance Schertz, TX. He has been unable to attend many dances this past quarter due to illness, and plans to be back in the near future.
