7 Dancing Right Dosado By Brian White President Houston Callers Association Are you ready for this one? If I am going to ruffle any feathers in this column, it is going to be with this movement. This month s movement is Dosado. Listen to me folks, Dosado is a NO HANDS MOVEMENT! In other words, you never touch another dancer while dancing this movement. I am not the only HCA caller that never calls a Dosado! Why? Because Dosado is rarely ever danced correctly. Dosado is a very useful call not only for the caller but for the dancers also. So let s look at Dosado the way it should be danced. Starting formation for a Dosado is facing dancers. Caller command examples of how a caller can call a Dosado are: Dosado, Dosado your corner, Dosado your partner, Head Men Dosado, Heads Go Forward and Back and Dosado just to name a few. Dancing action of a Dosado: Walking in a smooth circular path, dancers walk forward, passing right shoulders, slide sideways to the right, walk backwards, passing left shoulders, and slide slightly to the left to return to their starting position of facing dancers. Did you notice there was no mention of grabbing the other dancer in a waist swing or joining hands or any contact whatsoever? Ending formation: Dosado ends with facing dancers ONLY! Dosado does NOT END IN AN OCEAN WAVE! NEVER! Remember from your very first night of lessons that you must dance what the caller calls, not what you want to dance. Dosado Timing: Designated dancers from a Squared Set, returning to a Squared Set: 8 beats; otherwise 6 beats. Styling: Men: arms in natural dance position, right shoulders forward as right shoulders pass, left shoulders forward as left shoulders pass. Women: both hands on skirt, moving skirt forward and back to avoid opposite dancer, right hand forward as right shoulders pass, left hand forward as left shoulders pass. Left Dosado is a legal call and along with left-handed movements should be called more frequently than they are now since they add a lot of variety to a square dance program. Dosado to a Wave is a separate call altogether from Dosado. This call ils where dancers do end in an Ocean Wave, but ONLY if the caller calls Dosado to a Wave. 7
