Visit the club s webpage for the calendar reflecting Theme and Special Dances throughout the year, Join us on Facebook, facebook.com/bluebonnetsquares or call, for more information. On Saturday, August 5, Frontier Squares Square Dance Club of Clear Lake City, held our annual special dance with over 160 dancers attending. As I looked out on the dance floor and spotted Suzanne Matocha and Diane Burch in separate squares smiling while they were dancing I got a lump in my throat. Suzanne Matocha of Frontier Squares and Diane Burch of Bluebonnet Squares share more than a common interest in square and round dancing. Diane Burch realized she might have trouble with her inherited kidney disease at some point in her life. In September, 2015 her doctor told her that her kidneys were rapidly failing, but she nursed them along for over a year before the kidneys went into ERSD, end stage kidney failure. Her options were to go on dialysis or receive a transplant. No family member qualified to donate due to medical reasons, so she accepted the reality of dialysis. Then her dear daughter sent out a letter to friends, acquaintances, and also Bluebonnet Squares square dance club and Sunday Stylers round dance club with a plea for a donor. during her recovery at home. Three weeks later Suzanne visited Frontier Squares, and one month after the transplant she was back on the floor square dancing. Diane was at home with family members while recovering from her extensive surgery. She remained in isolation from outside contact. In mid-april she was able to return to dancing at Bluebonnet Squares. Two ladies who enjoy the great activity of square and round dancing are in a relationship as friends forever with this gift of life as donor and recipient of a kidney transplant. Both ladies are back in the swing of their lives with full energy. They are beautiful outside and inside. Consider being a donor. Diane has the gift of a new life because of the unselfish decision from Suzanne Matocha. Be a donor and donate your organs at the end of your life. One person can touch as many as ten separate people: giving them the gift of life through a heart transplant, the gift of sight through a retinal transplant, etc. Go to Donate Life Texas (donatelifetexas.org) to explore and sign up. Marilyn Brooks, President Frontier Squares Suzanne was quick to respond to the plea and offered her kidney. Even though they matched, Suzanne went through a full battery of medical testing to ensure that she was totally healthy and that losing one kidney would not harm her. The transplant was originally scheduled for January 18, but due to the death of Suzanne s sweet little 86 year old mother, the urgent surgery was rescheduled for February 1st. Three caring square dance friends; Marilyn Quartaro, Monica Burns and Diane Lima were at the hospital throughout the procedure. Marilyn and Monica continued to care for her -10-
