Coming soon to the Waco Convention Center: the 2016 Pre- Festival Dance hosted by Houston Square and Round Dance Council! Mark your calendar for Friday, June 17. The Star studded event starts with a FREE square and round dance from 9:30 am 3:00 pm with the Houston Callers Assoc. and Texas Round Dance Teachers Assoc. The Stars will come out at night starting at 6:00 pm and fade at 10:00 pm. The Star callers will be Wade Driver, Bob Baier and KO Jeanes. The Star cuer will be Mark and Pam Prow. What an exciting and fun line-up of stars for your enjoyment! But wait! There s more. These celebrities aren t the only Stars coming to Pre-Festival. You are a star too. Join in the Grand Parade of Stars (aka grand march) portraying your favorite star. (Imitate the star, dress like the star, or hold a photo of the star. Use your imagination and have fun.) 8 Presidents Message May is a busy month for us with many Graduations. Lake Jackson Promenaders, Strawberry Squares, Fairbees, Hanger Squares and Bluebonnet Squares will all welcome new dancers into their clubs. Fairbees will also celebrate another fun year of dancing with their Anniversary Dance. That evening they will also be hosting the 2 nd Quarter Council Meeting. Look in this issue for more details. May 16 th is the deadline for Pre-Registration for the TSFSRD State Festival in Waco June Houston is hosting the Festival this year and we hope to have a good showing from the Houston-area dancers. Registration forms can be found on the HSRDC website, Well Linda is still hobbling around in her boot from when she broke her foot. We hope that she will be back to normal soon, hopefully by the middle of May. 9 Club Chat What is happening in your clubs? Bluebonnet Squares will be hosting as guest callers Mike Bramlett, May 9 and Marshall Flippo, May 23. On May 23, Marshall Flippo will be calling for the last time in the Houston area as he is retiring. In celebration of the many years he has been a caller and advocate for Square Dancing the Bluebonnets will be hosting a Retirement Party that night. Plus Lessons are happening Tuesday Evenings at 7:30 a.m. at the Spring Wood Methodist Church. Paul Cote is the instructor. Come if you are needing a Plus refresher. June 6, Joe Saltel will be here for the club s Anniversary Dance. Square Dancers are welcome to join the club on Mondays at the Spring Wood Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX (FM 1960 West across from Denny s) from 7:30 pm 9:30 pm for Plus and Mainstream Dancing. Houston Area Camping Squares...It is just a great time to come out to Coushatte RV Ranch. Leaves are green, wildflowers are in bloom, the dancing is great, and we love to show you a good time. We have FUN! Our last two months have been very special. So this month, we will host a regular club dance with Brice Hesche calling and Terry Pimm cueing. We will have great snacks and lots of hot hash. clubs out there, we sometimes have to work around other events. But, it s worth it; particularly when it is so beautiful and serene out at the park. Please, join us for the day, for the weekend; we d love to have you join us. Pizza! There was lots of it at the Alvin Country Squares Pizza Party in April. There was lots of fun too. Gary Sanders and Marilyn Waguespack kept everyone dancing and smiling during squares and rounds, and everyone enjoyed pizza and other snacks in between dances. Dancers bought Toppings for Teens and the lucky winners went home with fun prizes. Friends from several clubs joined us and helped to raise $38 for the Teen Scholarship Fund and $82 for flood victim relief. Their generosity was very much appreciated. There were a lot of other happenings during the evening, as well. Leonard and Joyce Magnuson and Merle Bund and Juanda Cole were all out on the dance floor and they looked wonderful! It has been a long while since Leonard and Merle were both dancing, and we were thrilled to share the evening with them. Joan Miskelly was presented with the District 5 Most Valuable Player award to honor her for her dedication and hard work. Roxie and Bruce and the Woodys came out and presented a fun skit to inform us about the great activities coming up at the State Festival in June. In May we will celebrate the coming of spring with our Spring Fling Dance. We will have another fun Teen Scholarship fund raising activity, and the night is sure to sparkle with the calling and cueing of Gary and Marilyn. We invite everyone who is able to come and join us! We do have a CHANGE to announce. Due to scheduling conflicts, the club has moved our regularly scheduled weekends to the second weekend of each month. Even with this change, there will be times when the RV park schedules big rallies and we have to move off our second weekend plans. So, ALWAYS check our published ads and flyers when planning a visitation. Like all other -9-
