We ve got a changing of the guard with a new board for All of the dates and elected and appointed board information is updated for the new year. Those of you responsible for creating ads for the Where N When, the deadline for submission is the 15 of the month prior to the publication month. This means that the deadline for the February edition is January 15. We have a new advertiser this month. Round dancers, check out the dates for the Fun Dances with Tammy Lee and Martha Koslosky. Dates include Fridays and Sundays, so if you enjoy round dancing, here is a new opportunity in Houston for you to dance.

6 Club Chat What is happening in your clubs? Bluebonnet Squares J Bluebonnet Squares Join the Bluebonnet Squares in January. We are DARK Monday, Jan. 1. The following week, Jan. 8 is Open Mic for anyone wanting to try calling. Jan. 15 our class will be celebrating their Halfway Dance. Scott Bennett joins us again Jan. 22 and Tim Ploch calls, Jan 26. All Square Dancers are always welcome to join the Bluebonnet Squares on Mondays at the Spring Wood Methodist Church, 1711 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX (FM 1960 West across from Denny s) from 7:30 p.m. 9:30 p.m. for Mainstream and Plus Dancing. Houston Area Camping Squares - We had an eventful December. Not only did we have our annual Christmas Party, we had a Retirement Party for Brice and Debbie Hesche. There were 5 squares at our Saturday dance. Now we are on a new path for our club. We will be having one of our members Steven Blankinship as our Friday Night caller. He has called in the Houston Area in the past. We are looking forward to hearing him call. We will also be having guest callers on Saturday night. We will be starting with Bill Varley and will also have Brian White, Gary Sanders, as well as Brice Hesche on some Saturday nights. We are also planning our Anniversary Dance in April. We will have Scott Bennett from Oklahoma as our guest caller. He has called for a number of clubs in our area over the past few years. It s not as far to Coushatte RV Ranch as you think. It s only 10 miles North of Sealy. Please, come join us some Saturday night for one of our guest callers. Hanger Squares will be celebrating our 42nd Anniversary Dance on Jan 14, 2017, early rounds at 7:00pm with Tammy & Marvin Lee and squares at 7:30-9:30 with Wade Driver. 11 PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Welcome to a new year and a new set of officers for HSRDC. We are excited about all of those that are joining us as we set out on a new course for We are confident that by working together we can build a stronger and better HSRDC. We are pleased that so many of you have agreed to take on a task. We are excited to have Jan Albers, Sally and Phil Henderson, Donna Bowen and Linda Reaves as part of our team. As Jerry and I look to the future, we have two goals for The first is to provide guidance and training to the Board so they can lead us into the future. The 2nd is to provide assistance to the Clubs so that they are stronger for the future. We hope that thru our Facebook advertising we can add to the Club numbers. 12 Proposed Changes to HSRDC Rules of Order and By-Laws To be Voted on at January 7, 2018 HSRDC Council Meeting Rules of Order Section VIII HOEDOWN AND SPECIAL DANCES A. The Council shall conduct and sponsor the Houston Hoedown, the New Dancers Jamboree, Trade and Buy, Teen Scholarship Dance, and other special dances to promote and perpetuate the art of American folk dancing and to further fellowship between member organizations. By Laws ARTICLE VII The aims and purposes of the Council shall be: 3. To sponsor and conduct annual dances for the benefit of Houston area dancers. The dances shall include, but are not limited to: Hoe-down, President s and Club Leaders Dance, and New Dancers Jamboree By Laws ARTICLE XII SALARIES: No office or individual of this Council shall receive a salary, except that the Editor of the Where N When may receive compensation. The Executive Board and/or any individual shall be entitled to reimbursement for expenses incident to the handling of the affairs of the Council. Reimbursement for expenses shall be with the approval of voting delegates. Rules of Order Section IX AWARDS A. The Council shall present an award entitled Jerry Tucker Memorial Dancer of the Year at the annual Hoedown. This award shall be decided by the Executive Board, District Directors, and past recipients, who are active members with an HSRDC Club, each person having one (1) vote. See Procedures Manual for more details. a. The purpose of the Jerry Tucker Memorial Dancer of the Year award is to acknowledge contributions of service to the community for promoting the art of American folk dancing. -12-

Added to the fun of dancing until your square was the last still on the floor was the added attraction of being able to pay the judges to stay in as long as your money lasted!!! Well, our team from HSRDC outlasted three other squares... therefore won the contest! Pictured below are the dancers that represented our district.
