11 SPIRIT OF THE ANZACS (by Gill Green) I grew up in Armidale, NSW were I went to the Presbyterian Ladies College. Always having the love of horses I was a typical teenager and went through Pony Club where I eventually ventured out to mainly focus on Dressage training and competing. I have owned, trained and ridden all types of horses, from an Arab, Stock Horse, Thoroughbreds and Warmbloods. In 1995 I was lucky enough to win the 5 year old Young Horse competition held at SIEC for the first time with my Warmblood, Rivavu Amadeus. I have trained all my horses and taken them from Preliminary up to FEI level. In 2014 after a very short retirement from horses and riding, I decided to look around for an ASH since they are such a versatile breed. I thought it would be great to have a challenge of combining both disciplines of the ASH classes and the Official EFA Dressage Events. In 2014, I purchased Nediro Bobby McGee from Mrs Dianne Mills from Prenzlau in Qld. He is a 12 year old ASH Gelding. His Sire is Brendale Buc Spin and his Sire was Docs Spinifex. His Dam is Kitana Talina. The 2015 ASH Nationals was the first time I had competed there. We had a total of 14 Events gaining a 6 th in the Station Horse Gelding over 5 years, out of 33 entries in the ASHLA class we placed 16 th. Bobby worked beautifully throughout the week for me with the dressage phase being at the end. We got 5 th in the Prelim with % a personal best, 6 th in the Novice 2.1 with % a personal best and 5 th in the Novice 2.2 with %. I was a member who won the Teams event which consisted of myself on Nediro Bobby McGee, Tarnya Turner on Kywong Mr Ed and Sophie Meyers on Drumora George. The main highlight was the Open Freestyle on the Friday night in costume. We had 17 entries and every single rider went out of their way to provide spectacular costumes, music and entertainment. With 2015 being the 100th Anniversary of the landing at Gallipolli, I thought that it would be fitting to do a tribute to all the past (ANZACS) and present members of the ADF and of course, to the Australian Light Horse. My personal reason for selecting this theme is that I was in the Army Reserve (Sydney University Unit) for approximately 3 years from My husband T.J. (Jim) Green, enlisted in the Citizens Military Forces 1962, then enlisted in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in 1967 where he did his Tour of Duty with 3RAR (Royal Australian Regiment) in Vietnam in He retired from the ADF in Our Son, Steven enlisted in the Australian Defence Force in He did his Tour of Duty with 5RAR in Afghanistan in He is currently serving with 12/16 Hunter River Lancers here in Tamworth. Our Son-in-law, Travis, is a member of the Royal Australian Navy currently serving on HMAS Stirling. He did his Tour of Duty on Operation Slipper on HMAS Toowoomba in So, having 3 members of my family all returned servicemen, I was honoured to perform a Tribute to them and all past and present serving members of the ADF. My preparation began with finding some very appropriate music from the Album Spirit of the Anzacs which was released by Lee Kernaghan earlier this year. Unfortunately I was not able to obtain the true original Light Horse uniform or saddlery, so I just used a current uniform and items that we had. I wore my husband s medals and the teddy's that I had on my saddlecloth were actually given to me by my Daughter (Naval bear) and Son (Army bear). I sincerely hope that everyone that was there on the evening, enjoyed all the freestyles that were performed and it just goes to show what a versitile breed of horse that the Australian Stock Horse is. I am really looking forward to competing once again at the 2016 ASH Nationals.

Awards are determined by allocating points to horse and rider combinations placing /ranking at TDC events. The points are allocated as follows:- 1 st 6 points 2 nd 5 points 3 rd 4 points 4 th 3 points 5 th 2 points 6 th 1 points The Annual Award winner is the highest point scoring horse and rider combination in each of the five categories. Member awards are just one of the ways TDC strives to encourage all groups of riders interested in the sport of Dressage.

15 Glossary of Dressage Terms to help you understand your marks and comments FLEXIBILITY Range of motion of joints the ability to move the joints freely. Suppleness, pliability. FLEXION 1. In the limbs articulation of a joint(s) so that the angle between the bones becomes smaller. 2. At the poll, there are three directions of movement, the first two of which are described as flexions: a. Direct flexion (or longitudinal flexion ) brings the chin toward the underside of the neck. b. Lateral flexion closes the angle between the cheek and the side of the neck. c. Rotation causes tilting of the head. 3. In the rest of the spine, movements occur in the same directions as at the poll but to a lesser degree. It is the combination of these movements that creates carriage, bend, displacement of the ribcage, etc. FOOTFALL A hoof, or pair of hooves virtually simultaneously, striking the ground. F FORWARD To or toward the direction that is ahead or in front of the horse, or moving or tending toward that direction. Forward indicates the direction in which the horse goes (in contrast to sideways, backward, or standing still); it does not indicate how he gets there. References to specifics such as impulsion, energy, reach, length of stride, and tempo more accurately express how the horse should proceed in a forward direction. FRAME The longer or shorter outline of the horse dictated by the relative degree of extension or collection. Incorrectly used to address the horse s level of training, as in Second-Level frame or Fourth-Level frame. FREEDOM The reach, scope, and lack of constriction in the movement of the fore and hind limbs. FREE WALK A pace in which the horse is allowed freedom to lower and stretch out its head and neck. Both the horse s strides and the frame are lengthened. Caroline Twomey see bio below Having spent the last 10 years in New Zealand, John and Caroline are now repatriating their equestrian coaching and training business to Australia. Caroline is a Grand Prix dressage rider and coach. Many will remember her (as Caroline Hooper) and her wonderful horse Merrifield Zia as one of the shining Australian dressage combinations of the 80s. Caroline was also a wellknown face on the showing scene and rode a myriad of horses to win over 50 East Coast, National and Australian Championships. Caroline now concentrates mainly on her coaching and has had much success in NZ coaching both National level Dressage and Eventing riders. Caroline has been a High Performance coach with the NZ Academy of Sport. She is an EA Show Horse judge and also enjoys working with show horses as well as amateur riders and young riders. In fact all are welcome and will enjoy her ability to demystify the training process. Weather your goal is enjoyment or success her enthusiastic and engaging teaching style will help get the best from you and your horse. John is a 4* Eventing rider although his talents don t stop there. He has won many titles to Advanced level dressage and is a consummate show jumping rider. John is partnered by his 2 best mates, Flaunt It and Highly Recommended and they are turning heads here in Australia just as they did in New Zealand.
