Out and About A fantastic day was had by all at Round 2 of the Ballarat Pony Club Triple Chance Showjumping Series. Congratulations to Danni Lea, Emma Lonie, Kate Morgan, Mikaela Lawrence, Amy Lodge, Georgie Simpson and Bronte Simpson. All girls achieved some fantastic personal goals, and some great results as well. The girls showed wonderful sportsmanship, supporting each other throughout the day. Well done girls! Smythesdale & District Pony Club BEING HELD AT THE MARCH RALLY AT 12.15pm The club AGM is coming up in March, we are looking to have more positions in the club

3 organizing and running rallies. A club revolves around the enjoyment and success of rallies, a DC as one person cannot do everything, so we are looking to have a DC, Deputy DC and Chief Instructor involved in organizing and running the rallies. This will allow three people to concentrate on specific areas of rider enjoyment and development. Expressions of interest are sought for these positions as well as nominations for all roles on the committee and within the club. A person to take on the role of an events Coordinator is also crucial to the running of the club and is as important as any other position mentioned here above due to the importance of bringing money into the club from successful events. Please consider taking on a role either on or off the committee that will help make the club tick. Nomination forms will be available at the Feb and March rallies and the AGM will be held at the March rally.. It really is a super day. Anyone who is unsure and would like to give this event a go please have a chat with myself, Brett, or Shane. There is open dressage and Showjumping, as well as Freshman s Showjumping. So if you are not graded and just want to give it a try you can enter any of these sections. There is lots of support between our members on the day and it really is a chance to have a go on familiar grounds with familiar faces. Another sensational day out and about at Glenlyon PC Horse Trials. A beautiful venue, a very well run event, and a rippa of a cross country course! Well done to Emma Lonie, Jordan Almond, and Georgie and Bronte Simpson for having a go, supporting each other so well, and representing our Club with great sportsmanship and big smiles! A huge thanks to Pippa Holm and her family for traveling to Glenlyon to support and help us all. Your support, advice and calm enthusiasm was greatly appreciated. 4 Victorian Vaulting (Tricks and Stunts) Team coming to pony club for the April rally We would like everyone to know that we have confirmed a booking for our April Rally for one of the Victorian National Vaulting Teams. They will come to PC for the day, and take groups, probably 3 groups at a time. Each member will get to practice on their barrells and other stunt gear, before having a go on their vaulting horses - yeah!!! They will also perform their national competition routine for us at lunchtime - about 1/2 hr display. How cool is all that!! Q: Why did the pony have to gargle? A: Because it was a little horse! Q: What did the horse say when it fell? A: I've fallen and I can't giddyup! Q: What did the teacher say when the horse walked into the class? A: Why the long face? Q: What do you call a horse that lives next door? A: A neigh-bor! Q: When does a horse talk? A: Whinney wants to! Thanks to Sandra Morgan for these jokes We REALLY Need Your Help! WORKING BEE Saturday 20 th March 2010 There are so many important events on for our club at the moment!! The SPC Committee doesn t like to ask too much of it s members but we really need your support with a few things at the moment!! Below are a few things we would really like people to help with: 20 th March WYEC Working Bee for both our Combined Training and the WYEA Horse Trials 27 th March Our Combined Training, Dressage and Show jumping Day 3 rd & 4 th of April WYEA Horse Trials. We need to supply X country jump judges and any other help we can. We don t Expect the world of people, but, if you could help even for 1-2 hours at these events it would benefit your club greatly. Each o f these events are aimed at improving your club!! PLEASE DO WHAT YOU CAN am onwards To clean up yards, wiper sniper around cross country jumps and general clean up of the centre. Tools required Wiper Snipers, trailers, weed pulling tools, rakes and mowers. Smythesdale Pony Club and the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Association have two major events coming up at the end of March and start of April We need help from every one to prepare the centre for these major events. Please come and help us - even if you can help for 1 hour. The Woady Yaloak Equestrian Association Horse Trials will bring in enough money to pay for the permanent dressage arenas so please help us to achieve this for ease of future setting up of the dressage arenas. Q: A man rode is horse to town on Friday. The next day he rode back on Friday. How is this possible? A: The horse's name was Friday.

You need to be clear that you are training for a special purpose such as you need some extra help with your horse, or you need to work on a certain discipline or training for a ODE, a games event or event of some kind. The training needs to be with our permanent instructors Allison Hayes, Sue Bradley, Nick Benyon, or Sue Short. It can be at any time during the week or on weekends. Just make sure you check if any other core users are using the centre at the time. You can use sand, cross country and even our jumps if you are prepared to get them out and pack them up again. We need some more numbers in the team so that you all only need to do it at a few rallies each year. S**T Thank you to the Morgan family for their recent generous support of our gymkhana please tell your friends and family about their fencing business....remember that we are ALL responsible to pick up where our horses left off...down loaded and deposited his/her goods onto the ground. We all respect our grounds and other people s property so don t leave any horse manure or

6 any rubbish lying around. Don t expect your neighbour will pick it up or leave it to the last one left at the end of the rally to clean up after folk have left. This is our club s home so let s lift our game and clean up. Thank you to those individuals that have been diligent in cleaning up after themselves. Important RECALL of Dublin Onyx Helmets The manufacturer of Dublin Onyx helmets wishes to voluntarily recall all black or white basic Dublin Onyx helmets for inspection, due to a possible manufacturing fault. The outer shell is coming away from the foam inner mould due to insufficient gluing at the point of manufacture. This problem affects only the basic Dublin Onyx Helmet in black and white (item codes: ) but not Purple Onyx helmets, wick-lined or leather harness versions. Woady Yaloak Equestrian Association - EFA Horse Trials Saturday & Sunday 3 rd & 4 th April 2010 held at Smythesdale grounds A lot of help is required to run this event. The SPC has offered t help run some of the catering. A great fundraiser for SPC. This is a huge event and has the potential to raise a lot of money for the club. They usually get around 200 competitors? that travel to Smythesdale from far and afield. All these lovely horsey people will be looking for some food and a hot cuppa or cool drink etc. We need as many helpers as possible from Smythesdale Pony Club to volunteer some of their time to make this possible. Please consider this event a priority to help at. There will be a lot of top class competitors competing and this is a great event to have a look at how the folk in the higher levels do their thing [with gutso and determination]! See you there! WYEC CASUAL USER FEES The problem affects only stock made in China, not previous stock made in New Zealand. You can identify if your helmet was made in China by looking for the internal label with Made in China on the reverse side. If you have bought this item since December 1, contact the store of purchase urgently to arrange inspection of your helmet. At a recent WYEC meeting a motion was put forward to reduce the casual user s fee for the core user groups of the centre. The WYEC committee, which includes members from Rokewood PC, Adult Riders and Smythesdale PC along with the WYEC management group voted unanimously to reduce the casual user fees for the core groups of the centre. The new User fees for the core user groups (which includes SPC) is as follows which now revolves around families. 12 month casual user Family $70 6 month casual user Family $50 1 month casual user Family $30 Day casual user same as one month. Guest pass - $10 per rider per day Included in the restructuring is that you may bring a friend to ride (if you have the casual user membership) for $10 per rider per day For further information call Liz Sayers (the booking Officer) on

7 President s Spiel Hi there Pony Clubbers, There are lots of great things happening around the Club at the moment, we are going through the busiest time of the year for the Pony Club. Over the coming week there will be two new 60 x 20 sand arenas going in with a post and rope / chain fence similar to what you may have seen at Ballarat Pony Club. This means no more setup for 4 dressage arenas now - great news for all our set-up helpers. We are holding the Pony Club AGM at 12.15pm at the March Rally and would really encourage all parents to attend and become involved in the club. There are around 15 to 20 roles that could be taken on in the Club and if everyone takes on a small role it not only spreads the load, it also gives people ownership and satisfaction in actually running or looking after a section of the Club. Please talk to us about a role in the club, you will seriously find it enjoyable, and you get to have an input into the future of the Club. Nomination forms will be circulated before the rally, please consider taking on even a small role. We have submitted this year's application for a grant to the Golden Plains Shire. Our grant is called "Members / Competitors Practicality and Sun Smart Upgrade" and is requesting money to improve the area around our canteen. We are hoping to build a post and rail fenced area, build or purchase some timber table and seat sets, put up a shade sail and purchase a large BBQ for the area. We are hoping to make this a congregation area where we can all head at lunchtime. A copy of the submission will be in the clubrooms on rally day. We have the Swap Meet, Combined Training Day and the WYEC EFA Horse Trials all coming up over the next three weeks. We are looking for helpers at all three events as the money we make comes back to the Club to put back into the Club. PLEASE PLEASE help where you can. We also look like filling a couple of exciting roles in the Club at the moment that we believe will have a fantastic impact on the enjoyment at our rallies. We look forward to telling you more as the roles are confirmed. We are all thinking of Karen Stabeusz and her family at the moment after an accident in the paddock at home. We would like to see Karen well and back at Pony Club soon. From your District Commissioner Hi everyone how are you all I hope you are ready for this weekend, it s going to be huge. The swap meet on Saturday morming, I hope you are all coming, and then the rally on Sunday which I also hope you are all coming to as it should be a great day. To all of our new members I hope you enjoyed our last rally and I am looking forward to seeing you all again and getting to know you and your families, don t hesitate to grab me for a chat at any time I am always available and will help out with anything that I can. On an exciting note you will notice that there are 2 new sand dressage arena s at the centre which were provided by WYEC and a huge thanks to the grounds commitee, BUT the research, quotes and the final organizing for them to be built was achieved by lots time and effort by SHANE SIMPSON our president,so a huge thanks to Shane for all of his efforts because I know how much time he has put into getting these arena,s. Also a big thanks to Derek and Sandra Morgan who have done a terrific job of putting in the pine poles for the dressage arena fences they look great well done. Coming up on the weekend after our rally is our Combined Training day, this is a day when all the members who are graded in Dressage and Show jumping can compete against each other and also against members from other clubs so it is a great day of fun and also a learning experience as to what is like to compete in without traveling to another club where the grounds are different and unfamiliar, so come along and have a go it is great day. We also have an open section where anyone can compete even if they are not graded yet including parents so come along and join in if you want to have a go. It is the time of year when we hold our Annual General Meeting and I hope that all of you will be attending as it will be held at lunchtime on Sunday. This is the time that you all get to have a say in who you want to run the club and also to nominate for a position on the committee and all are welcome.
