1 Footnotes Established 1983 September 2013 Indianapolis, IN President s Corner Recently, a local hospital system promoted a ballroom dance class among its offerings of fitness classes. The description of the class read, You ll learn the most popular dances while you burn calories, improve your flexibility, strength and balance. While Indy Dancers promotes its dances as fun parties, let s not forget the additional benefits of dancing on a regular basis. So, consider our dances as part of your regular workout routine, especially this month! What better to get your heart rate up than a lively East Coast Swing? Come and learn the fundamentals of swing, along with some great moves. For new dancers, this is a great opportunity to learn the basics. Seasoned dancers will have the chance to review and fine-tune the basics, and an advanced class will be offered to challenge everyone. Also this month, we will celebrate Oktoberfest, which means it s polka time! So, get ready for a little aerobic exercise to learn this fun dance! On the 24 th, we will officially celebrate Oktoberfest with some polka music and brats! Oy, oy, oy!! It s a deal you can t refuse! Last, mark your calendar for our Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 14. Details will be announced soon! I ve always said it pays to be an Indy Dancers member. Take a look at the pictures on page 6 and then review the calendar page. You can see that our club offers plenty fun parties and activities, food and professional instruction all for the admission price. You can t beat it!! 2 Secretary s Report Treasurer s Report Indy Dancers August 13, 2013 Meeting Minutes Margaret Bell Indy Dancers, Inc. Income Statement Don Mindach Our President, Rhonda Bennett called the meeting to order. The minutes and treasurers report were approved as printed in the August issue of Footnotes. Thursday, August 15, Flash Mob Dance, 7:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Park Mall during the outdoor concert. It would be great to have a large group of Indy Dancers members there! Don't forget to wear your Indy Dancers shirts and dance to the fun tunes of Zanna-Doo. See you there! Saturday, August 17, Saturday Night Fever Party7:00 p.m. at the Eastside ; get out your tiedyed shirts, groovy headbands and come party! Everyone is encouraged to wear their tie-dyed gear or 70 s wear. Scott and Yulia will teach the famous line dance from the movie Saturday Night Fever. Pizza and salad will be served. There will be lots of great music, including disco music until 11:00 p.m. - all for regular door admission price!! Looking for something to do Saturday, August 31, Labor Day weekend? Consider ballroom dancing at Mike s Music and Dance Barn, 2277 State Road 46, Nashville, IN That is highway 46 between Bloomington and Nashville Indiana. We will be dancing to the Twilite Nites Orchestra. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. See Rhonda if you want to car pool. What a great dance opportunity!
