Indy Dancers LOVE to party but it takes a team effort to pull these events together. So, please consider becoming part of the team. Elections will be held in June. Also, May is membership renewal time, and let me remind you that Indy Dancers gives you the best bang for your entertainment buck! Remember the Christmas party? The low ticket prices were due to your membership and attendance to our weekly dances. Remember the fun and great food we had during our anniversary dance at Serendipity? Again, your membership and regular attendance kept ticket prices low. So, don t miss out on all the fun for the coming year. Now is the time to renew because the deadline is June 1. See Rheta today! And speaking of membership benefits, mark your calendar for our annual Luau, Saturday, June 20. This is always a fun event that kicks off the summer season. Expect great food and lots of dancing to the best variety of music ever! So, plan to wear your Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts for one of our biggest events of the summer. 2 Secretary s Report Indy Dancers April 14, 2015 Meeting Minutes Rhonda Bennett Financial Report Indy Dancers, Inc. Income Statement President Carl Dankert opened the business meeting April 14 at 8 Seconds. Carl reminded members that nominations for officers would be accepted during next month s meeting. He encouraged everyone to support the club by running for office or by volunteering. Carl also urged club members to attend the upcoming Roaring 20s Chicago Party at the Eastside Moose. The party will be based on the movie, Chicago and the lesson will be Jitterbug. Pizza will also be served. Members were reminded to mark their calendars for the club s annual Luau, June 20, at the Eastside Moose shelter house. It s one of our most popular events. Also among the announcements, Carl urged members to read the newsletter. In March, members who read the President s column found the opportunity for a free admission to one of the dances. Carl called for a motion to accept the March Secretary s report. It was seconded and approved. A motion was seconded and approved for the March Financial report. The meeting was adjourned. Come and dance to the best variety of dance music ever. And of course, we'll have fresh-grilled brats and hot dogs, baked beans, coleslaw and more. Don't miss this absolutely fun event. DANCE FLOOR ETIQUETTE OUTSIDE LANE PROGRESSIVE DANCING INSIDE (SLOW) LANE STOP & GO MOVEMENT CENTER FLOOR COUPLE SPOT TURNS SWING & CHA-CHA LINE DANCES SLOW STATIONARY DANCING Different Dances and Dance Styles can be accommodated on the floor at the same time if simple Dance Floor Etiquette is followed: 1. When dancing a progressive dance (fox-trot, polka, waltz, etc.) move in a counterclockwise fashion around the outside edge of the dance floor. 2. Slower dancers using side movements or stop-and-go patterns should dance in an imaginary inside lane, also counterclockwise. 3. Dancers who stay in the same spot (swing, cha-cha, freestyle, line dance, etc.) should keep to the center, leaving the outside edge of the dance floor open. 4. Be polite and courteous, even when collisions occasionally occur. Remember courtesy is contagious! 5. Other General Rules: a. Never carry a drink onto the dance floor. b. Never back up against the line of dance. c. Line dancers should form several small lines rather than extended one line which will block the fast lane. d. When a dance floor is crowded, it is advisable for everyone to take small steps and travel in one direction to avoid collisions with other dancers. e. Don t stand on the dance floor to talk, thus taking up valuable dance space. SEE YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR!
