Our annual Christmas party kicks off the season Dec. 6 at the and it will be fabulous! For the first time, we will dance to live music by the 17-piece Starlighters Big Band. Expect to hear some of the best big band music in Indy! They will even throw in some Christmas tunes perfect for swing or waltz!! Want to hear contemporary music? No problem!! Our own DJ Don Mindach will alternate sets with the band to play your favorite pop tunes. Adding to the evening, our pros, Scott and Yulia Shook, will perform a special spotlight dance for us. This party will be one of our most entertaining events this year! Watch for pictures at How about celebrating our last dance of 2014 with a New Year s party Dec. 27 at the? Back by popular demand, this mid-holiday event offers dinner, dancing and a toast to the new year all for the regular admission price!! It s an evening you don t want to miss!! See page 5 for details. If you enjoy the music of Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Aretha Franklin and others, then join us Jan. 17 at the for a Motown party! The Motown era spanned the 1960s through the early 1970s, and the music of this great period is perfect for swing, rumba and more. So dig out your bell-bottom jeans (now called flare jeans), loafers, A-line shift dresses, white go-go boots, wide lapel shirts and corduroy vests, and join us for a throwback to the 60s. Also, mark your calendar now for our anniversary dance March 21 at Serendipity in Plainfield. Details will be announced during our club dances and in February s newsletter. Income Statement Board member Dave Berard called the meeting to order Nov. 4 at the Lodge. He thanked everyone for participating in the Halloween party and applauded the creativity of the costumes. A motion to accept the November Secretary s report was made and approved. A motion to accept the November financial report also was made and approved. Dave reminded members of the upcoming events: Total Account for Beginning balance 10/15/14 $9, Ending balance 11/15/14 $9, Includes reserve account $5, (held by Board of Trustees) Indy Dancers, Inc. Club Officers Nov. 15, Thanksgiving dinner and dance. This is an event in which the club gives back to members in the form of no admission. Dec. 6, Christmas party. The Starlighters Big Band will perform along with a DJ. The low ticket price is a perk for members. New venue: Nov. 18 we will dance at the Post Road Community Center, also known as the World Sports Park, 1313 South Post Road. 6 DANCE FLOOR ETIQUETTE OUTSIDE LANE PROGRESSIVE DANCING INSIDE (SLOW) LANE STOP & GO MOVEMENT CENTER FLOOR COUPLE SPOT TURNS SWING & CHA-CHA LINE DANCES SLOW STATIONARY DANCING Different Dances and Dance Styles can be accommodated on the floor at the same time if simple Dance Floor Etiquette is followed: 1. When dancing a progressive dance (fox-trot, polka, waltz, etc.) move in a counter-clockwise fashion around the outside edge of the dance floor. 2. Slower dancers using side movements or stop-and-go patterns should dance in an imaginary inside lane, also counter-clockwise. 3. Dancers who stay in the same spot (swing, cha-cha, freestyle, line dance, etc.) should keep to the center, leaving the outside edge of the dance floor open. 4. Be polite and courteous, even when collisions occasionally occur. Remember courtesy is contagious! 5. Other General Rules: a. Never carry a drink onto the dance floor. b. Never back up against the line of dance. c. Line dancers should form several small lines rather than extended one line which will block the fast lane. d. When a dance floor is crowded, it is advisable for everyone to take small steps and travel in one direction to avoid collisions with other dancers. e. Don t stand on the dance floor to talk, thus taking up valuable dance space. SEE YOU ON THE DANCE FLOOR!
