The purpose of Veterans day is to honor the men and women who have served or are currently serving in any U.S. wars. The assembly started with Mr. Lutze welcoming all the Veterans who came to the high school, followed by the American Legion Troop 1-90 posted the colors. Corey Duck, senior class president then led the Pledge of Allegiance, and our Hebron band performed the National Anthem, led by Mr. Cheek. Middle schoolers Stephanie Hano, Jacob Stewart, Jacob Poradzisz, Hannah Lloyd, Alex Suarez, and Alexis Rippe gave read passages honoring veterans, then the Middle School Choir, led by Miss Gorski, performed Let Freedom Ring. When the choir finished, Hebron High School students Faith Holman, Jewel Elam, and Scott Crawley recognized the sacrifices of our veterans. The High School Choir sang a song called, To Those Who Serve, and the High School Band played a moving rendition of American Heroes. When the band finished there was an amazing guest speaker, Pastor Jim Drummond USMC (retired), who gave a wonderful speech honoring veterans and reminding the students to never take for granted their privileges since it was our veterans who fought to keep those for them. Lucas Sheetz, Nathaniel Mlechek, and Taylor Gajda played Taps, and then the American Legion retired the colors. The greeters for the morning included, Nikki Fieser, Paige Marrs, Natalie Egolf, Jessica Sobczak, and Kylee Hamby. Thank you to all the men and women who served our country! This show was about the hilarious retelling of the Brother s Grimm 209 fairytales. This show was very interactive with the audience, for those that did not attend, the show was terrible to miss. The play was very funny and the cast and crew all worked hard to make this play a success. The crew built so many amazing props for the show, including Rapunzel s Tower and the Narrators Stage. The Brother s Grimm was a major success, it was funny, interesting, and incredibly entertaining. Awards for the show will be presented later in the year. Good luck to the cast and crew. Scholarships The Spring 2016 Production will be Grease the Musical. Auditions for Grease are December 7th, 8th, and 9th. Everyone must attend all three nights of auditions.
Boys Volleyball The junior varsity and varsity boys teams have finished the season and we will like to thank all the senior boys who have played all these years with the Hebron High School volleyball team and will leave their legacy here at Hebron: Ryan Daniels, Josh Seabolt, Hunter Yates and Nathanial Mlechick. Thanks also to Coach Ortiz and Coach Donavan for contributing your time and talents in coaching this season. Congratulations to both of teams for the dedication and hard work, we really appreciate it! Girls Volleyball The junior varsity and varsity girls volleyball teams have finished the season. A special thanks to the senior girls: Heaven Donovan, Paige Marrs, Rachel Young, Jourden Bixenman, Brooke Phelps, Bri Spicer and Aubrey Carpenter for their hard work and dedication these past four years. A special thank you goes out to our honorary senior and foreign exchange student from Spain, Elena Azañedo for joining the team. With all these girls graduating, we will have a young team next year and they are looking forward to facing their challenges head on. Coach Stein and Coach Donovan did a great job helping all the girls succeed and lead the team this year. The girls have worked hard during practices and games and have overcome many challenges to just barely miss taking the 2nd round in sectional! Great job to all of the girls on both teams for your hard work and contributions! Boys Cross Country This year,, the team of Joe Mcneill, Parker Nuest, Daniel Clemens, Conner Nuest, Corey Wallace, Ty Maldonado, Vincent Creighton, Eric Lyons, Alex Lyons, Malachi Lara, Andrew Pavlo, Jeremy Wall, Brandon Nilsin, Scott Crawley, Johnnie Fry, Josh Clemens, and Grant Giacomin. The varsity team that ran for most of the year was Joe MacNeill, Parker Nuest, Ty Maldonado, Conner Nuest, Daniel Clemens, Corey Wallace, and Scott Crawley. The Varsity team did great this year, placing 4th place in the PCC. While the team as a whole did not place high enough to move on, Joe Mac- Neill, Parker Nuest, Ty Maldonado, Conner Nuest, and Daniel Clemens did move on individually to Regionals. Girls Cross Country The Hebron Cross Country Girls Team had a great year. The team consisted of Payton Schatz, Natalie Egolf, Star Rodriguez, Allison Hano, Hailey Taylor, Katlin Cherry, Skyla Smolen, Niki Schmidt, Riley Mccullough, and Alyssa Rokose. The Varsity Team consisted of Payton Schatz, Star Rodriguez, Natalie Egolf, Nikki Schmidt, Alyssa Rokosz, Katlyn Cherry, and Allison Hano for most of the year. The girls did great, as they placed 2nd in PCC. The Varsity team also went on to Sectionals, and while the team did not place high enough to move on together, all seven did move on to Regionals individually. At Regionals the only one who moved on to semi-state was Payton Schatz, who ran her last cross country race in her High School career.
Boys Basketball P A G E 3 The Hebron Hawks Boys Basketball season started in late September when Coach Steinhilber began conditioning. A large number of boys came out to start the journey with the team. Only three seniors came out for the team, but our large number of underclassmen made up for the scarce amount of seniors. Over ten Freshmen, began their first basketball season with the Hawks this year, so in the long run, the Hawks will be youthful in years to come. Good luck to this year s Hawks! Girls Basketball The Lady Hawk s basketball team is really looking forward to this season, since it seems they are being people underestimated on many fronts.the varsity team has already won a close game against Knox with a score of 53 to 51. The junior varsity team also played against Knox, and though they did not get the win, they still played hard and put in their best effort! The coaches for the varsity team this year are Doug Godbolt and Tim Riese. For the junior varsity team, the coach is Jen Brian. The coaches have designed a buddy system to help the girls out. This system is where the varsity girls have a partner on the junior varsity team and they help cheer each other on and prepare and support them for the upcoming game. Junior Mia Riese says she is looking forward to before the game spotlights. The girls have two games this week. The first game is on Wednesday at Boone, the second game is their first home game on Thursday at North Judson. Good luck girls! Wrestling The boys and girls season starts on Wednesday the 18th of November. The team is very excited to welcome Hebron s first girl wrestler Shelby. The team captains Ryan Perez and Nick Mendez think this will be a great season, as it is the first ever time it is a near full roster with 20+ wrestlers. Good luck as you start your season! Bowling On Wednesday October 21st, the high school girls bowling team went up against Hanover Central. They won their match with 18 out of 20 points. High bowlers of the night were Anna Wilson with a 178 game, Rachel Nellett with a 169, and close behind her was Shelby Brouwer with 167. On Friday October 23rd, the high school boys also went up against Hanover Central. They took 15 out of 20 points, winning their match. High bowlers of the night were Aiden Swinford with a 179 game. Robert Maksimovich was close behind him with a 172 game, and James Flaherty rolled a 150. On Wednesday October 28, the girls team beat Crown Point by total pins. Rachel Nellett shot a 178 and Anna Wilson shot a 157.
P A G E 4 Dance The Hebron dance team will be hosting a dance clinic for the Hebron elementary students. This years' theme is High School Musical. The cost for the students is just $20 and includes a High School Musical clinic shirt to wear while they work it. The clinic will take place on Saturday, November 21st. Each grade will split off with two members of the high school team and will learn a 45 second routine to perform for their parents that afternoon. The dance team is excited to get to spend another year bonding with the kids through dance! Cheer The Hebron Cheerleaders are prepared for the upcoming winter sports season with head coach Brenda Sterk. At each home game expect to see the girls, and boys of course, cheering their hearts out to support our boys and gi. This years team is full of seniors; Josh Seabolt, Nathan Pucca, Hunter Yates, and Paige Marrs will all be enjoying their last year together. The group is especially pumped that this years team is bigger and filled with more exciting stunts for this coming season. The new uniforms will also help solidify the great year that's ahead. Best of luck to the Hebron Cheerleading Squad! Kiner s Korner The names have been posted for those that have made it into the 100 Points Club after the first nine weeks. So far, there are only six students. Congratulations to Isabel Reynolds, Madison Rojas, Alyssa Rokosz, Heather Sowles, Justin Deslauriers, and Rachel Nellett. It s not too late to make it into the club this semester, so keep reading! There are quite a few students who have less than 20 points to go. Book Club met for the first time this year at their call out meeting during Teen Read Week. We added two members since last year. Then we added two more when we met on November 3rd. I hope that we keep growing!, said Mrs. Kiner. If you love to read, come to one our meetings and check it out. Book Club meets the first red day of every month. We read within a specific genre every month. For December, we will be reading Sci-Fi/ Fantasy. We will also be going over to the elementary school to read holiday stories to our Reading Buddies. T H E H A W K S N E W S Spanish Club This club is not only for Hispanic students, or students taking a Spanish class, but for anyone who would like to enhance their cultural knowledge. Another great aspect of this club is that you get a chance to meet new people, make friends, and learn a little Spanish too! The only requirement to join is to come to the meetings on a regular basis and become involved in our activities. Some activities include making crafts, watching movies, and going to restaurants to try new food..
BPA News Hawks Nest The Hebron Hawk s school store is introducing Sparkling Ice drinks and new delicious beef sticks in a variety of flavors. Some of the flavors available include Sweet Maple Bacon, Bold Teriyaki, Pepperoni, Bacon Swiss, and for the daring, Ghost Fire! The Hebron school store is also proud to announce that we now have our sign from our prior location up at the location we acquired last year in the concession stand near the gym. Come on down and see us at the Hawk s Nest, where you can just grab it and go! Haunted House Recap The 15th annual Hebron Haunted House was another success! The theme was clowns and the NJHS organization raised $5,004 to spend on Hebron Angel Trees this Christmas! NJHS thanks everybody for coming and supporting this event, and all the staff and students who made it possible. They will be very busy planning their 16th annual Haunted House. Dates, times, and themes will be forthcoming soon. Homecoming Winter is approaching, and you know what that means homecoming is right around the corner. Following Friday s game against Wheeler, Saturday s homecoming dance is December 5 from 8-11 in the sweetly decorated high school cafeteria. Tickets will cost $15 for a person and $30 for a couple. The homecoming committee has been working very hard to come up with the theme. After much time and careful consideration they have decided that we would be having a Candy Land theme for homecoming week and dance The committee looks forward to seeing everyone there, as they promise you will have a sweet time! P A G E 5 BPA students are currently preparing for District Leadership Conference set to take place at Portage High School on December 5. The Hebron Chapter is thrilled that this year they will be bringing a much larger group than past years to compete. Out of the 20 students traveling to compete, there are seven seniors, five juniors, four sophomores, and four freshmen. With some old and new members attending, Hebron is working hard and hopeful that they will place in many events and receive multiple awards. In most events if someone places in the top three or better they will be able to advance and compete at the State Leadership conference in Indianapolis this March. Good Luck to all attending District and remember to have fun.
Art Club Our Halloween Art Club party was Thursday, October 22. Several art club members attended, mostly all bringing some kind of food or dessert with them to share. The students got the pumpkins from Kregel's pumpkin patch in Lowell. Almost everyone carved a Halloween themed pumpkin, then took them home after they finished. Overall, it was an incredible turn out.. Art Club s upcoming events include looking into getting tickets to see The Christmas Carol or The Nutcracker in Chicago with Drama Club. This will hopefully take place late November or early December. The Christmas Party will also be held in December before winter break. It will include gingerbread house building, a gift exchange, and lots of food to share. The date for that is still to be announced. Fall Sports Awards Wednesday, October 28 was the 2015 Fall Sports Awards Ceremony. It was a very successful affair, as we honored all of our Hawk athletes. Teams included boys and girls cross country, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls JV and Varsity volleyball. Coaches from all sports spoke highly of their teams and individual performances. Athletes from each sport performed very well and showed it throughout the conference and the state. We thank our seniors and the rest our fall athletes for a spectacular season. All Conference Award Winners Boys Cross Country : Parker Nuest and Joe MacNeill Girls Soccer: Jewel Elam and Shelby Keehn Girls Cross Country : Payton Schatz, Star Rodriguez, Nikki Schmidt, Natalie Egolf, and Alyssa Rokosz Boys Volleyball: Ryan Daniel and Carson Roeske Boys Soccer: Nick Surber, Jordan Giacomin, Dawson Walsh, and Joey Haskins Spell Bowl The Hebron High School Spell Bowl team had a very successful run this year, all thanks to the dedicated members who came out day after day for practice. Andrew Briggs input all 3,000 words into a very helpful and engaging online software program that was used for their Monday-Thursday practices. In October, the team attended two Kouts invites, and worked their way up to the North Judson competition on November 2. Those who competed at North Judson included: Andrew Briggs, Heather Loser, Taylor Gajda, Jayne Anderson, Mike Borner, Jason Licht and Eric Ream. Andrew Briggs got 9/10 words correct and earned a near-perfect award for it, making him the top speller for our team. The team placed a very respectable third in their class and fourth overall, but unfortunately fell short of moving to state by just three words!! We applaud the Spell Bowl team for their dedication and for having such a successful season this year and are already looking forward to the fun next year will bring!
