We may have just the ticket for you! Come and see Hebron High School s performance of The Sound of Music. Follow the Von Trapp family in their musical adventure that takes place during the heart of World War II. With major roles, Senior Lexi Sroka plays Maria and Senior Anthony Summerville will perform the part of Captain Georg Von Trapp. New this year, the play will host its performance on two weekends: the first is April 6, 7 and 8; and then April 13, 14 and 15. Fridays and Saturdays begin at 7 p.m., and the two Sundays curtains open at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students, $5 for children 5 and under and can be purchased at the door. From sound to music, and sets to costumes, the cast has been working long hours to bring to the community a cast and musical to remember. Directed by Mr. Travis Ziegler and Mrs. Melissa Summerville, this is a can t miss extreme musical adventure through history! Track & Field 3 Dates of Interest 3 Prom 4 Dodgeball 4 Kiners Corner 5 Dodgeball flyer 5 NHS 6 Students Recognized 6 Art Club 6 Scholarships 7 BPA Brings Home Big Wins From Indy Twenty-two students competed in the Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference held in Indianapolis March 11-13, and brought several big wins home for Hebron! Moving on to nationals in Dallas, Texas are: Steven Miskus who placed first in the state for the second year in a row in Payroll Accounting, and also took first in Advanced Accounting; Anthony Summerville, who took first in PC Servicing and Troubleshooting; Jason Licht, who took fifth in Banking and Finance, and tenth in Personal Financial Management; and Kylee Babiak, who took fifth in ICD-10-CM Diagnostic Coding. In addition, Alyssa Stiener placed seventh in ICD-10-CM Diagnostic Coding, and Trey Wolverton placed tenth in the Business Management and Marketing open test. Congratulations to each and every one of them for representing Hebron in such a professional manner! The students moving on will compete at Nationals in Dallas from May 9-13.

2 P A G E 2 Girls Softball The 2018 Hebron softball team is starting many well experienced and far driven athletes that want to strive for Hebron s success. The anticipation for competition to arrive is what is driving them to push beyond the limits and train to their best. Their first game will take place on April 2nd, come out and watch hard work pay off! Parents of seniors, if you are looking for scholarships, check out studentscholarships.org, Indiana's leading source for finding scholarship money. It's a search engine that sends you scholarships that matches your profile. Contact the guidance office to check out some of the scholarships they have to offer. Academic Super Bowl Congratulations to our Academic Super Bowl teams who brought home several wins from the PCC competition in Kouts March 15. Steven Miskus, Josh Clemens, Grant Giacomin, Emma Slusser, and Lauren Yates earned the Social Studies team 18 points and first place medals. The math team, led by Anthony Summerville, Allison Betts, Grace Reynolds, Madison Rojas, and Riley McCullough earned 13 points and 2nd place. Grant Giacomin, Dana Wilber, Ashlee Delph, Alyssa Rokosz, Kyra Stater, and Lauren Yates earned the English team 15 points, resulting in 3rd place. Finally, Abagail Smith, Nicholas Gilles, Maddie Ream, Emma Slusser, Kyra Stater, and Caden Toczek earned the Fine Arts team 13 points and 3rd place. Congratulations to all our teams! Your coaches, Ms. Brown, Mrs. Charpentier, Mr. Eriks, and Mrs. Jania are very proud of your effort and hard work. Baseball Hebron Hawks baseball lost many seniors last year but still has a strong group of student athletes. Seniors this year include, Logan Ryan, Brenden Vaupel, Travis Patrick, Peyton Doelling, and Austin Chas. The baseball team will be playing twice at the Gary RailCats Stadium; on April 2 against Valparaiso and April 11 against Wheeler. Tickets for the game are being sold, $5.00 per ticket in the athletic office. Their home opener is on April 3 against North Newton. Come out and support you Hebron Hawks! T H E H A W K S N E W S

Everyone is super excited to start the season. All coaches are returning this year: Coach Walker, Charpentier, Defries, and Gajda. April 10th is the first meet against LaCrosse and Covenant Christian and begins at 4:30. This is one of only two home meets, so here s your chance to come out and support! Both teams are looking for a successful season being led by seniors, Alex Lyons, Ty Maldonado, Trey Wolverton, Anthony Summerville, Alex Doeing, Vito Creighton, Corey Wallace, and Kyle Wallace. We wish you a good season, Hawks! Boys Sectional Results On February 27, 2018 the boys varsity basketball team started their sectional play against Boone Grove High School. They easily handled Boone Grove and advanced to the semifinals against North Judson-San Pierre High School. On March 2nd the boys defeated North Judson by a score of and advanced to the sectional final. In the final, the boys varsity team competed against Marquette Catholic High School. The varsity team fought hard the entire game, but lost Congratulations to the boys varsity team on a great season and all the hard work they put in!

4 P A G E 4 Prom 2018 Red Carpet Romance is the theme of the 2018 Junior- Senior Prom taking place on April 21, and is promising to be a night to remember. Plenty of sharply dressed gentlemen will be escorting their dates along the red carpet wearing the dress of their dreams. Ticket sales have already begun and are $40 per single $80 per couple. The Grand March takes place at 4:30 p.m. in the Hebron High School Auditorium where doors will open at 3:30 p.m. for a sneak peak into all the red carpet looks. Prom will begin at 7:00 p.m. and end at 11:30 p.m. at The Orthodox Center at the Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church, 8600 Grand Blvd., Merrillville. Doors will open 6:00 p.m. For more information scan the QR Code on your ticket! We can t wait to see you all on the red carpet! Dodge Ball!! It s that time of year again! The Hebron High School Chapter of Business Professionals of America is hosting it s fourth Annual Area wide Dodge Ball Tournament on April 7, 2018 with a start time of 4pm! Gather up your teams, get ready for your A game to defend against the winners of last year. Winners take back the bragging rights and your team entry fee, along with the prized travelling trophy! Want to play? Teams of 6-8 can enter for $40, and those who just want to enjoy watching their friends compete in the heated rivalry can come and pay $5 and enjoy some refreshments while they re here! Either way, it is sure to be a good time for all and one team will walk away victorious! Come watch it all unfold and support your very own BPA members as proceeds from the games help them make their way to their own competition in Dallas, Texas. It s a win-win! See you there! Sign-up forms are in the office or Mrs. King-Licht s room. Kiner s Corner Book Club is partnering with Newspaper this year as they set out to raise money for a 3D printer. Our kickoff for this year s fundraiser will be April 3rd, after we get back from spring break. Start saving now and find that perfect gift for mom or dad! There will be many different products to choose from, such as: cookies, candy, candles, flowers, and plants. We are also offering a new product this year, coffee, in a variety of flavors. So, look for a book club or newspaper staff member when we get back from break to place your order. Ordering will be available from April 3rd to April 17th, with delivery just in time for Mother s Day, on May 1st. 6 P A G E 6 Art Students Recognized Congratulations to the following students who have been selected as Region winners of the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis: Alex Suarez, grade 9, for her tempera painting, Red Riot Ellena Wagoner, grade 10 for her mixed media painting, Sailing on a Song Grant Giacomin, grade 11 for his mixed media painting, Scroll and Sonata Regional winners will receive a check for $25 and a Certificate of Achievement at a Gala Awards Ceremony on May 6th at Indiana Landmarks in Indianapolis. Congratulations to our amazing and talented artists! Art Club Fundraiser Art Club would like to thank all the people who supported our fundraising efforts on behalf of Ashley Herndobler through a Pajama Day and Hat Day. Pajama day took place on Friday March 16. Thanks to all the students and staff that donated a dollar and dressed up in pajamas to help Ashley, we were able to raise $217.00! Today was Hat Day and though number is not yet in at press time, there was much support shown to help one of our very own. Thanks to all for your continued support. National Honor Society National Honor Society raised $355 for Ashley Herndobler through the pizza fundraiser. Thank you to everyone that purchased a card. They are being delivered! In addition, NHS had a successful blood drive on March 19, collecting 33 pints of blood. The success of the two blood drives this school year has earned a scholarship for one of our NHS seniors! The next meeting is April 3rd for all members. Thank you to our awesome community and students for your continuing and unwavering support! T H E H A W K S N E W S
