1 HEBRON HIGH SCHOOL HELPING STUDENTS SUCCEED SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST: Day PCC Mattress Fundraiser Sports Walk-a-thon Volume 8, issue 5 J A N U A R Y One of Our Own E-Learning The Hawk s News INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Boys Wrestling 2 Girls Basketball 2 NHS 3 Kiner s Corner 3 Cheer 4 Valentine s 4 Permission slip 6 Guidance 7 Several clubs and organizations at Hebron High School are partnering together to bring awareness to a very serious disease, Hodgkin s Lymphoma. Although it is difficult to detect, this form of cancer is one of the most treatable forms. One of our own alumni, Ashley Herndobler, a 2017 Hebron High School Hebron graduate, was recently diagnosed. It is our hope that we can bring awareness to this disease as we set out to help her and her family with the costs of the treatment she ll be receiving. Currently, Business Professionals of America is sponsoring a walk-a-thon to raise funds for this effort. On Friday, February 9, students from the middle and high school will participate in the indoor walk through the high school halls by donating $10.00 to the cause along with a signed permission slip. All participants will receive a t-shirt in honor of Ashley to raise awareness and to show her our support. You can locate an order form on page 6 of this publication, or you can pick one up in the high school or middle school office. The t-shirt is also on display at each of the schools as well. Look for National Honor Society s Dominos Pizza fundraiser coming soon. Please keep an eye out for updates on this and all other associated activities. Boys PCC! The school was very busy after hosting the boy s PCC basketball tournament. The Hebron Hawks lost to a buzzer beater shot to the Kouts Mustangs in the first round Leading scorer was Carson Roeske with 14 points and 17 rebounds. The Hawks Basketball team has since moved to a record of 5-5 after taking down the Whiting Oilers with a score of In this game Senior Carson Roeske scored his 1,000th point in the first quarter of the game. He finished the night with 30 points, making it one to remember. The Hawk s next upcoming game will be against the Rensselaer Bombers at home on Saturday January 27. Save the date for February 23 as the Hawks will play the River Forest Ingots for senior night! We wish the Hawks good luck for Saturday!
2 PAGE 2 Parents of seniors, if you are looking for scholarships, check out studentscholarships.org, In- Girls Basketball The Hebron Lady Hawks Basketball Team has moved to a record of 7-12 after beating the South Central Satellites in a big upset. The Lady Hawks play tonight against the Rensselaer Bombers on Friday January 26th at Hebron High School for senior night. On Sunday January 21, the IHSAA girls basketball sectional draw took place and your Lady Hawks will play on Friday the 2nd at 7 o clock at Boon Grove High School. We wish the Lady Hawks good luck for Sectionals next week! diana's leading source for finding scholarship money. It's a search engine that sends you scholarship possibilities that match your profile. Contact the guidance office to check out some of the scholarships they have to offer. BPA The Hebron High School BPA club had an extremely successful regionals competition, and that makes for an exciting and well attended state conference. We have a record 20 individual events and 2 team entries competing at the State Leadership Conference this year which will be held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown on March With events ranging from Interviewing Skills and Accounting to Desktop Publishing, Video Production and Small Business Management team, the students are currently very busy preparing to put on their A game. Good luck to all competing, and we look forward to coming home with some wins! Boys Wrestling The Hebron wrestling team has come a long way through their season and each and every one of them hope to go even farther in the next month. On January 13th, three wrestlers gained the title of all conference: Ewan Donavon, Patrick Adamczyk, and Jacob Poradzisz. Although this is a huge accomplishment they all realize this is only THE HAWK S NEWS the beginning. Come January 27, the sectional tournament begins and taking place at Crown Point, and we hope to send multiple wrestlers farther than the Hebron Schools has ever accomplished. Come and show your support to the wrestlers!
3 PAGE 3 JV Girls Basketball Currently the Lady Hawks are and their last game is tonight at 5:30 against the Rensselaer Lady Bombers. PCC was this past month and they had a great game against the Kouts Fillies. The team advanced to the semi finals against Westville but had a heart breaking loss. Coach Hein is very proud of all the hard work the girls have put in. JV Boys Basketball On Wednesday January 3, the junior varsity boys basketball team played Kouts in the first round of the JV PCC Tournament. The JV boys won and advanced to the second round against Westville on Saturday January 6. On Saturday, the JV boys played Westville in the second round of the tournament, and won to advance to the championship game against Boone Grove. After a hard fought game, the JV team pulled off a close win over Boone Grove and secured the JV PCC Tournament Championship. After the tournament the boys have an overall record of 10-2 and a conference record of 4-1. Congratulations to the JV boys team for winning the PCC tournament and a great record so far. Good luck on the rest of the season. THE HAWK S NEWS
4 V O L U M E 8, I S S U E 5 P A G E 4 NHS National Honor Society will be sponsoring a Dominos pizza fundraiser from February 20th to March 6th to help our school raise funds for Ashley Herndobler, who was recently diagnosed and is receiving treatment for Hodgkin s Lymphoma. Anyone who orders can get two large pizzas for $10 with one topping for each. NHS will also be sponsoring a blood drive set for Monday, March 19th. It will be on a red day, so if you plan on donating make sure you eat a healthy breakfast, drink lots of fluids, and get rest. Empty Bowls is being moved from February to May this year so that it can take place during Celebration of The Arts Month. For all NHS members, the next meeting is February 6. Thank you on behalf of all our members for your support in all our endeavors! E-Learning Day On the January 12, 2018, Hebron High School was called off for winter weather. When inclement weather causes a cancellation, an electronic learning day sanctioned by the state takes its place. The E-Learning day was an extravagant success meaning that the student body will not have to make up this day at the end of the year. If and when there is another E-Learning day, we encourage students to get their work done that day since their teachers are readily available to answer any questions and provide clarifications. The reason they have a later due date is in case of the electricity going out or wireless being unavailable. Thanks everyone for your cooperation! Kiner s Corner The media center has some exciting news! In celebration of John Green s new book, Turtles All the Way Down, Follett, a book vendor, is offering a contest to win a Skype visit with the author. Excited students and fans of the author s books are tasked with creating a library display in hopes that Hebron will win the contest. Even those who ve never read one of his books were asked to bring their creative side and can be a real help! So, come on in and watch the ideas unfold during the next couple of SRTs and hopefully we ll create the best display they ve seen.
