1 P.O Box 968 Garsfontein oo42 Cell: Website: Dear Parents and Ballet Students We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our exam candidates for your hard work during the ballet exam session. The Royal Academy of Dance have informed us that we will receive an with a result listing for our studio within the next few weeks. Regrettably the issuing of the awards (certificates, result forms and medals) are still being processed at the RAD headquarters in London and will follow ASAP thereafter. All our ballet students from the Garsfontein Scout Hall, Laerskool Lynnwood (Only from Gr. R), Tyger Valley College (Only from Gr. 0) and Laerskool Die Krans (Gr. R Only) will be joining together for another exiting ballet production at the end of the year. We are very excited to announce that we will again be having our production in The State Theatre, Opera. The Show will have spectacular costumes and décor and the students will have an experience of a life-time performing on this historic stage and being a part of this production. In order for the show to be a huge success we ask for both your commitment and extra time. Please keep in mind that on the day of the Show students and especially the mommies of the younger students will have to be there the whole day between 9h00 18h00. There are times when students have to wait for long period of times either in the dressing rooms or back stage as the younger students only dance in one Act and then again in the Finale. We will have 2 Theatre rehearsals during the week prior to the Show and 2 Performances on the day 11h00 and 15h30. A lot of work goes into a professional production of this magnitude and therefore it will definitely be worth doing it twice. This will also give our backstage helping hands mommies the time to help backstage during one performance and watch the other. The DVD recording will be of the 2 nd Performance to allow us to have the 1 st Performance almost as a full-dress rehearsal. Students will have time to relax in the large dressing rooms in between the 2 performances and they always have more than enough energy and adrenaline to keep them going. This also means that make-up will only have to be applied once and touched up during the break. The Ballet Production of Dreams of an Artist will take place in the South African State Theatre Opera Theatre, Pretorius Street, Pretoria Saturday 1 December 11h00 and 15h30 - Whole Cast - 2 Performances Tickets R150 can be booked through Computicket and we will let you know as soon as the bookings open.
2 Please inform all your friends and family and let them diarize the date. The Opera, Theatre is costing us close to R including rental, décor, lighting, music engineers and staff. We would like to request that every student invite at least 10 people to support our Show, in order for us to cover all the costs involved. We re convinced that everyone who has been a part of our previous State Theatre Productions (The Ruby Slipper , The Nutcracker Princess and The Forest Queen ) would agree that it was on a professional level, excellent quality and very entertaining. Every year so many parents are disappointed that they didn t invite more of their friends or family to come and see our Show. Don t be disappointed once again and let them know ASAP! Please register your child ASAP online for the Show on or before Friday 27 July Online entries will open Monday 16 July Please go to This letter with all the information and online entry form can be found on our home page. If your entry fails to reach us by Friday 27 July, your child will not be entered for the Show. We need the entries ASAP before we can go ahead with the choreography and wardrobe. Please submit an entry form and choose the Not taking part option even if your child will not be entering for the Show. We need to make sure that you have all received this information. STAGE REHEARSALS Stage Rehearsals will take place during the afternoon of Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 November. Students will be divided into Acts and it will be compulsory for students to be there either: {ACT 1: Wednesday and Friday} or {ACT 2: Thursday and Friday} It is compulsory for all students to attend these stage rehearsals, seeing that this will be the only opportunity to familiarize ourselves to the stage. Students will not be able to be part of the Show if they cannot attend these rehearsals. The stage is unfamiliar to most and placing needs to be done in order for us to have successful performances. Due to the unavailability of the Theatre, our Show takes place almost 2 months later than previous years. Therefor we might be able to start and finish these theatre rehearsals earlier depending on exams and compulsory school hours during the last week of November. Wednesday 28 November: STAGE REHEARSAL Act 1 14h00 18h00 Times will be allocated closer to the time for different groups. Only main Thursday 29 November: STAGE REHEARSAL Act 2 14h00 18h00 Times will be allocated closer to the time for different groups. Only main Friday 30 November: WHOLE CAST Act 1 and Act 2 14h00 18h00: Times will be allocated closer to the time for different groups. Only main Saturday 1 December: WHOLE CAST- 11h00 and 15h30 Performance 9h00: Students arrive for costume and make-up 9h45: Act 1: Photo s to be taken on stage with backdrop and props 11h00 - ±13h30: 1st Performance ±13h30-14h30: Lunch break and rest in the dressing rooms
3 14h30 15h15: Act 2: Photo s to be taken on stage with backdrop and props 15h30 - ±18h00: 2 nd Performance There will also be rehearsals on scheduled Saturdays in October and November closer to the time: Saturday 13 October, Saturday 27 October, Saturday 3 November and Saturday 17 November. It will be compulsory to attend at least 3 of the above-mentioned Saturdays. Knowing how much they are going to love being a part of it we re sure they wouldn t mind attending all of the above Saturday rehearsals if possible. The Private and Government Schools still have a holiday in between now and then and therefore we will have to make up for lost time on the Saturdays close to the date. These Saturday rehearsals will take place in the Garsfontein Scout hall to accommodate all studios and for everyone to dance together. All other practices will take place during normal dance times. It is of utmost importance for all students to attend all lessons accordingly in order for us to have a successful Show. Please continue to come to class on time and neatly dressed in your correct class attire and hair tied into a neat bun. Please note that each ballet student has to keep attending all their scheduled lessons in order to take part in the show. By agreeing to take part in the show, you are making a commitment towards our studio and your fellow classmates. If you do not attend your lessons accordingly and miss classes regularly due to other extra mural activities or commitments, we will have to use our own discretion and you will unfortunately be pulled out of that item. We cannot complete the choreography in time or run successful rehearsals without a full class or cast. Cast List and Show Fee: *Subject to change* Show fee includes rehearsal and stage fees, costume hiring, make-up etc. Show payments made directly to L.
