The classes showed off their work and many parents, family and friends made the most of looking at their classrooms. Our dance groups, recorder and choir did us proud with their performances both at Richmond Marketplace and at school. Thank you to Mrs White and Mrs Bates for working so very hard to provide us with a great lunch on Open Day. FOOTSTEPS DANCE Footsteps Dance lessons have now begun. Students are enjoying the different dance styles even with an Aboriginal dance being taught this year. Payment can still be made. BOOK WEEK What a wonderful display of costumes we saw yesterday for our Book Character Parade. I hope you took the opportunity to look at the amazing cook a book, paper plate craft, treasure maps and colouring in competition entries. KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2019 Students enrolling for Kindergarten 2019 would have received their package in the mail. If you haven t received this please contact the office. Please let the office know if you have not advised them of your child s enrolment for If you know of any Kindergarten students starting next year who have not given their name to our office, please let them know to do so. -Textbook fees -Voluntary School Contribution

2 HAWKESBURY EISTEDDFOD Tomorrow our Stage 2 and 3 dance groups will be competing in the Hawkesbury Eisteddfod at the Windsor Function Centre. Good Luck to all our dancers! SCHOOL DISCO Thank you to teachers for staying back after school for our students to enjoy a night of dancing. Their behaviour was outstanding. The SRC have decided to donate money to Stewart House and to the Drought Appeal. Both very worthy causes and close to our hearts. ASSEMBLY Our next whole school assembly for the term will be next Monday at 9.30am in our hall. NAPLAN SCHOOL READINESS TEST WEEK Our school will be participating in the NAPLAN Online School readiness Test this term. We have opted for the week of 27 August. All Year 3 and Year 5 students will be undertaking the readiness test but results will not be sent to schools and parents. 3/4R CAKE STALL Thank you for supporting our fund raiser last week for 3/4R to donate to Save the Orangutan. They raised $ We are now able to sponsor two Orangutans for a year. HAWKESBURY MUSIC FESTIVAL CHOIR REHEARSAL Our choir are having their next whole choir rehearsal on Wednesday 5 September at Hawkesbury High. LAWRENCE HARGRAVES MATHS CHALLENGE We are sending 6 students to Hawkesbury High for our annual Lawrence Hargraves Maths Challenge. They will be competing on Thursday 6 September. We wish them well. MUFTI DAY FOR SPRING FAIR Our final mufti for our Spring Fair will be on Friday 7 September. Students are asked to bring in items for the lucky dip such as pencils, hair ties, small toys the list goes on. The local Reject Shop or $2 Shop will have an array of suitable items. If you aren t able to purchase anything a gold coin donation will be appreciated. RUGBY LEAGUE The Stage 2 & 3 rugby league teams will be competing in the Royce Simmonds Shield on the 4 September and the Hawkesbury Cup on the 26 September EXTENDED SCHOOL DAY Our staff had an extended day last Tuesday evening to complete their training in 8Ways Aboriginal Pedagogy as part of their last 2 days of the year s Staff Development Days.

3 FATHERS DAY BREAKFAST We will be holding our Fathers Day breakfast on Thursday 30 August for all our dads, grandfathers and significant males in your child s life. An invitation with a RSVP is being sent home today. Please return for us to cater. DISTRICT ATHLETICS CARNIVALS Our District Field and Track Carnivals are on Wednesday 29 August and Friday 31 August. Notes for those who will be participating have been sent home. We wish all our competitors the best of luck. LONG SERVICE LEAVE Mrs Joyce will be taking the last 4 weeks of this term as LSL and Mrs Gallen will be taking 4J. Mrs Smith will be taking the last 2 weeks as LSL and Mrs Connor will be taking over the LaST position. Mrs Dorahy will be taking leave from Tuesday 25 September to Wednesday 5 December. During this time Ms King will be relieving as Principal and Mr demattia will be taking 6K. SUNGLASSES FOR SALE We now have school sunglasses for sale. They are on sale from our front office for $15. The sunglasses come in 4 different sizes in our school green colour. They come with a microfiber cloth and a matching case with a bag clip. The tough glasses have an easy to use namespace and our school name printed on one arm. CONGRATULATIONS JETT! Jett has been selected for the National Interschool Team to compete in Werribee Victoria on her horse Grace in Dressage and Show horse. Good luck Jett! WHITE ELEPHANT The next collection date is Wednesday 12 September in the school hall. Father s Day Stall This year our Father s Day stall will be held on Thursday 30 August from 9.30am The children come as a class and purchase gifts for their dads or a special male relative. We have many new and exciting gifts this year. Prices for the gifts will be $1.00, $3.00, $6.00 and $2.00 Mystery Gifts. The children love to come and select a gift, all profits go towards the P&C fundraising programme for 2018.

4 HIGH ACHIEVERS EAGLE AWARDS Glossodia PS uses Well Done cards as a way of promoting and rewarding the behaviour and attitudes that we believe to be important. When a student has collected five Well Done Cards they are traded for an Eagle Card. Five of these cards are can in turn be traded to earn our Eagle Ribbon acknowledging positive behaviour over a considerable period of time. Once a student has received 5 Eagle Ribbons they can trade them for an Eagle Badge. FYI Our SRC students have a roster where they supervise our Friendship Zone each lunch time. They make sure that every student who comes to play is made feel welcome and that they are included in games. This is a zone where children who would otherwise not have others to play with can feel comfortable and safe. Well done SRC!!

Parents have suggested we do a donation day for the farmers. Mrs Dorahy General Business: advised that the SRC are donating some takings from tonight s disco to the appeal. We will have a bucket out on open day for people to donate if they wish. Unfortunately we can t fit in another Mufti day this term with what is already organised and the Spring Fair. 9 Principal s Report August 2018 Principal s Report August, 2018 EDUCATION WEEK Education Week Open Day is tomorrow, Wednesday 8 August. Richmond Marketplace performances were today Tuesday 7 th August CANBERRA EXCURSION Students had a fantastic time. It is an extremely busy 3 days. The students were wonderful ambassadors for our school and were complimented on their behaviour. NAIDOC ACTIVITIES Students had varied activities to participate in. Students enjoyed the day. PLAYGROUND UPDATE Tender has been selected and build will start in approximately 8 weeks. SUSAN TEMPLEMAN VISIT Visiting our S3 students on Thursday. DISTRICT CARNIVALS 29 and 31 August FATHERS DAY Breakfast and stall on Thursday 30 August. BOOK CHARACTER WEEK Monday 20 August. NAPLAN ONLINE READINESS TEST We are involved in the readiness test in week of 27 August.
