1 DATES TO REMEMBER Don t forget as dates are known for events they are placed on the school web site. Year 7 and end of year events are on the web site calendar. Music Assembly Friday, 27 September Travel Smart Why Not Wednesday Breakfast Wednesday, 25 September Last day of term 3 Friday, 27 September First day of Term 4 Tuesday, 15 October Check out the school blog at com/ Newsletters can be found at our website on If you have any good news stories or pictures from students events please them to the Waggrakine address and we will pop them into the newsletter/blog. Dear Parents and Guardians, It is with sadness and excitement that we farewell our wonderful Ms Ashworth, who last week won the substantive Deputy position for the new Wandina Primary School. Ms Ashworth will be starting at Wandina for term 4, leaving us at the end of this week. Ms Ashworth has been acting in Mrs Nixon s role for the last three years and she will be sorely missed at Waggrakine! Mrs Hancock is taking on the deputy role for term 4. What a busy fortnight we have had, the disco was amazing with so many children dressing up in wonderful costumes. I am so impressed with how much effort parents and children put in! Special thanks to the P&C disco committee, P&C members and school staff who helped out on the night. It has been a big fortnight for sports with end of netball and footy seasons and interschool carnival. So much so we have an 8 page newsletter today! I went along to the senior girls netball final game to see them win the season, what a great effort by the girls and their families. Special thanks to all the staff and parents who have been supporting netball this season. For more photos please see the school blog which has special events added daily. Also, well done to our fabulous Year 7 students who were brave enough to enter and perform at the talent quest. I have included some photos but they don t do justice to the spectacular variety of performances. It is great to see products coming into school already for the monster Christmas hamper being coordinated by the P&C. coming. Keep everything I would like to thank parents for their support of the school staff decision to participate in the industrial action last Thursday in protest of changes to school staffing and resource allocations. We appreciate your support and apologise any inconvenience. I will be providing information to parents this evening prior to the P&C meeting at 4.15 for a 4.45 P&C meeting for interested parents. The photos above show Mid West Principals and Deputies visiting classrooms at Waggy and talking to our kids. They were full of praise about our children and how engaged they were!

5 Sub Junior Netball Season 2013 This year Waggrakine entered four teams into the sub junior netball competition thus beginning the season with a Net Set Go (formally Netta), year 5, year 6 and year 7 team. The season comprised of 14 rounds and had schools from all over Geraldton and the Midwest competing. Early in the season the Net Set Go team was moved down a level and the year 5 were moved up a level. The year 6 and 7 teams remained in their levels. The Net Set Go team has enjoyed learning the skills necessary to play a game of netball and has some promising netballers within it. The year 5 team have had a tough but fun season continuing to refine their skills. The year 6 and year 7 teams have had a great season with both teams undefeated. A big congratulations to the year 7 team who won the shield at the final game. Thank you to all the coaches and the umpires for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge each week. Thank you also to the parents for making sure all players make training and the game each week and a big thank you to all the players for being good sports and playing fairly this year. Dev Wise (Waggrakine Sub Junior Netball Coordinator) Year 6 Netball What a fantastic season it has been for the year 6 netball team. Kayla Suarez, Lauren Wehrle, Lexie Wainwright, Francina Martin, Charli Ditchfield, Tyla Bellotti, Emily Campling and Emily Akker played hard every week to remain undefeated at the final whistle. It has been a pleasure to coach this team and be a part of their wonderful achievement. We are all extremely proud of you. Thanks heaps girls!

6 Waggy Beat Undefeated Nagle in the Final Game of the Eagles Cup The Eagles Cup footy carnival has been held during term 3. A team comprised of year 6/7 boys and girls has played Monday afternoons. The team managed to win 5 out of 7 games which was an outstanding effort considering many players hadn t played before. The highlight was how everyone played as a team which allowed them to beat some hard teams. A huge thank you goes to the Hortons who had their whole family contributing to make this competition happen for Waggy, and the Higgins who stepped up when needed. Thank you to all the other parents that helped in some way, it was greatly appreciated by Ms Hunt and myself. Waggy Beats Nagle

8 Term 3 Sports Update Term 3 is a busy one for sport and I must start off by thanking everyone for their help at the carnival, which I believe, was a huge success. Well done to Jindarndee and to all our champion sport people. Also thank you to everyone who helped out with Saturday Netball, especially Mrs Wise who coordinated it this year. A big well done to all teams, especially the seniors who managed to win the shield. On Friday, 13 September Waggrakine Primary School was involved in the interschool cross country held at Spalding Park. Twenty students went to the event with 16 competitors racing in the intermediate and senior divisions. Waggrakine had 8 competitors finishing in the top ten in fields of 24, with the rest not too far behind. A big congratulations goes out to all students involved but in particular Ewan Whitley who came first in his race and Hayley Corlett who came second. With these great results Waggy managed to finish 2nd overall. Tuesday the 17 th saw Waggy compete in the Pre Carnival events at the Little Athletics Oval. The day consisted of jumps, throws and 800m. Waggy did extremely well and managed to bring home 8 ribbons with Ashlee Rumble being the standout, bringing home most of them. A big well done goes to Ewan Whitley who won his long jump event. Thank you to the helpers for the day and to Geraldton Primary for running a great day. Friday the 20th was the Inter School Carnival. Congratulations to Mt Tarcoola for winning this year s shield. It was great to see our students performing at their best and cheering and supporting each other on. Sportsmanship was displayed all day and the team must be commended on these efforts and their great behaviour. A huge congratulation goes to Blake Tazewell, Ewan Whitley and Ashlee Rumble who all won runner-up champion for their age group. Well done! As always these events do not happen without help. So a big thank you goes to Mrs Wise and Mrs Walsh for looking after the students and to Joady McDonald and Sue Delacy for their help in making the carnival run smoothly. Each year Waggy enters competitors in the Fremantle Dockers long bomb and quick kick competitions. Winners are invited to attend the state wide competition at Fremantle oval during the term 2/3 holidays. The winners of this competition are then invited to participate before a Dockers home game. Bryarnnii Peta was good enough to make it all the way and managed to finish 2 nd overall. This was a great effort and I am sure her and her family were very proud and I hope they enjoyed the free match tickets.
