1 Warrior Run Middle School The Defender Post Middle School Welcomes New Administrators Lizzy Buck and Lilly Shaffer Mrs. Perruquet In the classroom P erruquet supports students by getting to know them and what they are studying. Also, every morning, she greets each classroom. Here, she met with Landyn Magyar, 7th grader. Ms. Heller Ms. Heller is the new assistant principal of Warrior Run middle and elementary schools. Heller said that her favorite thing about this middle school is the passion of the teachers in their subject areas. As well as the creativity of the students and how they all work collaboratively. Heller likes her new job and this district because she likes the ability to work with all students across all grade levels and content areas. She is originally from a big city, but she decided to come here to a smaller community. Heller moved here after graduating from college, and she loves the small town. Mrs. Perruquet has been the elementary school s principal for some time, but now she has chosen to work at WRMS because she likes to see how the children she used to watch over the elementary as principal have grown and what they have accomplished. Her favorite things about this school are the students and the teachers. Perruquet loves coming to school everyday because everyday is new. Originally, she choose Warrior Run because this district is very much like the one she grew up in, and the families here at Warrior Run are a lot like the families in her old district.
2 Page 2 WRMS The Defender Post A Move to Media Specialist Lizzy Buck and Lilly Shaffer Ms. Allen is now in the middle school s library after Mrs. Bartholomew moved to work in curriculum to plan what students learn. Allen s new title is a media specialist because her job includes much more than working with books and other print materials. In addition to working in the library, she is also one of new advisers of Student Council. When choosing her job, she felt that she could make a difference, and liked that she could help kids with their future. Allen enjoys working with the faculty and hard-working students. She also enjoys that the Warrior Run community is close together. Allen commented that she enjoy [s] working with kids all throughout the school: Fourth through eighth instead of just eighth. [Allen] chose to work at Warrior Run because [she] graduated here, Supporting Students Allen works with 7th grader, Emma Podobinski, and never really wanted to leave. Before she was moved to the li- in Mrs. McCormack s classroom. brary, she was an eighth grade language arts teacher along with Mrs. Cooper. New Fifth and Sixth Graders Cassie Herman and Serena Fisher Ariana Martel is in fifth grade. She went to Ashkar Elementary school before she came here. Her favorite special is Music. Ariana s favorite teacher is Mrs. Bowers because she is fun and nice. Megan Robbins is a fifth grade student who moved here from Muncy. Her favorite class is gym. Robbins commented about her favorite teacher, Mrs. Bowers, When you get something wrong, she nice about it. Zola Butler is in 6th grade and she went to Lewisburg before she came here. Her favorite special is gym and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Tucker. Butler said, Mrs. Tucker is fun and lets us play games.
3 Page 3 WRMS The Defender Post New Teachers Kiflyn Hockenbrock and MaKenna Dunlop Mrs. Wolfe What made you want to become a teacher at WR? I grew up close to Warrior Run and really enjoy the area. The students and staff are all very friendly and make coming to work every day enjoyable. What is your previous experience? I have been a HS social studies teacher at Warrior Run since This is my first year as a middle school teacher and as an English teacher. What is your favorite memory from this year so far? It has been an experience to meet so many new and interesting students and staff here at the middle school. What is your favorite thing about teaching and working at WR? I really enjoy working in the Middle School because the teachers and students are all very friendly and fun to work with. I especially like team teaching with Mrs. Cooper. Ms. Johnson What made you want to become a teacher at Warrior Run? [I like] working with students. [I also] like the small community and the school colors. What is your previous experience? [I] worked at bank,[was a] Dairy Queen manager, [and I also] tutored in [the] math center at college. What is your favorite memory from this year so far? [I enjoy the] Math 24 competition. What is your favorite thing about teaching and working at WR? [I like the small school [and] getting to know students and fellow faculty.
4 Page 4 WRMS The Defender Post Mrs. Pick What made you want to be a teacher at Warrior Run? My husband grew up in Watsontown, so I know a lot of families from the area; it's such a great community. What is your previous experience? I taught third grade at Watsontown for 17 years. What is your favorite memory from this year? My class won a special day by bringing in Box Tops. The kids voted to do a White Out (like Penn State). We all dressed in white. It was so much fun, my class was very excited for it! What is your favorite thing about teaching and working for Warrior Run? There are so many wonderful families here in Warrior Run. I enjoy getting to know the families and many times have siblings of previous students. I love to see how the siblings are so completely different, much like my own kids. Would you ever be interested in working on any afterschool activities? If so, what would you be interested in? 5 Page 5 WRMS The Defender Post Karing Kids Take Action to Make Warrior Run a Better Environment At the beginning of the school year, WRMS Karing Kids created a positive message board which is displayed in the cafeteria. They also made positive posters which are hung up in student bathrooms and locker rooms. We always see news and articles filled with bad news. So, I thought we needed some positivity at Warrior Run. This message board is meant to make you feel welcome and apart of our school and in our community. The positive message board has many quotes to make students and staff feel comfortable and welcome. The posters in bathrooms and locker rooms have messages like You are loved., You matter., etc. I got the idea for this message board last year when I had went to Danville Middle School for an activity. In their cafeteria, they have a bulletin board with a few posters on it. I really enjoyed the board, so I told Mrs. Eisenhuth about it. She had also thought it was a good idea. I had started to talk to Miss Bowman about the board, and she had also said it was a great idea. The following year, we started to make posters for the message board. Some students think the message board was a waste of time and should not have been put up because students wouldn t look at it, but that message board might be helping some students or staff. Many students also do not like the idea of the posters either. Students are moving the posters and putting them on the ceiling, doors, and other places where they are not supposed to be. If the posters are always being moved, students might get the idea that it is a joke. The posters are supposed to be a constant reminder that you are loved and you are important to many people, even if you feel like you are not. Some students think the posters were a waste of time and people will not notice them, but if they are always being moved, they will not be noticed. The Karing Kids, Student Council, FCCLA, Leo Club, and many other groups have done many things to make our school and community a better place. If students would like to be apart of this idea, students in 4th - 8th grade can submit positive posters and quotes to be put on the board in the cafeteria. Karing Kids will select one to be put up each marking period. Anyone who has questions about the message board or posters can talk to Miss. Bowman or the Karing Kids.

They defeated Montoursville: 41 Montoursville to 48 Warrior Run. QUINTIN KERTSMAR w restled proud on January 9th, He got defeated, but that doesn t stop him from being satisfied with his wrestling throughout the season. The Middle School Wrestling Team currently won nine matches and they lost four matches. Mr. Koch, the coach this year, is working on developing well-rounded wrestlers and helping them get better everyday. He judges that they are doing well this season. Tanner Confair and Quintin Kertsmar, two eighth grade wrestlers, said the toughest people on their team that they would wrestle is Justin Blair and Jaiden Hanford because they are both skilled and strong. Connor Kertsmar, eighth grade wrestler, thinks that Blair and Hanford are his two toughest opponents because they both wrestled for awhile and they are also skilled wrestlers. Seventh grade wrestlers had similar conclusions. Bailey Bender said his toughest opponent to wrestle is Alex Parker because he has been wrestling longer than he has and he is skilled. Parker said his toughest opponent of his team to wrestle is Kaden Magyar because he is a skilled wrestler and he is in his weight bracket. Then we asked Logan Blair who his toughest opponent is on his team for him to wrestle, he said J. Blair because he is one of the best wrestlers on the team.

The Junior High Basketball team records, for 8th grade 14 to 4 and 7th grade 4 to 14 games. The 8th grade team was coached by Coach Keiser, and the 7th grade is coached by Coach Shamburg. Both coaches enjoyed watching the teams improve and also liked how they all wanted to improve their playing. Emily McKee in 8th grade thought that the teamwork was great because her team works well together. Leah Grow, 8th grader, thought that her teamwork is really good this season because all of the girls have played together before because it is the same team from last year. Avery Soltesz, 8th grader, thought that it was great because they gave each other good passes and good assists. Similarly Emma Podobinski and Sidney Bowers thought it was good because the girls did excellent at practice and in games while they played defense and getting the loose balls on the court. Mackenzie Watts thought that their teamwork needs to get better because they haven t won many games. The 7th grade Jr High basketball team is Charly Dugan, Maggie Sheets, Emma Podobinski, Abby Evans, Anisha Robinson, Yaidelina Gil, Mackenzie Watts, Sidney Bowers, Peyton Meehan, Brenna Knarr, Lindsey Trapani, Mariah Reichenbach, Braeleigh Dunkle, Audrey Noble, and Danyelle Brion.
