1 August 07, 2017 India, Iran reiterate their commitment to make Chabahar Port operational soon India and Iran have reiterated their commitment to complete and operationalise the Chabahar Port at the earliest. The port would contribute to bilateral and regional trade and economic development and also provide alternate access to land locked Afghanistan to regional and global markets. Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is on a two day visit to Tehran, interacted with President Hassan Rouhani yesterday, and called on the First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri. He also held detailed exchange of views with Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Abbas Akhoundi. Inform cases of communicable disease onboard to ATC: DGCA Civil Aviation Regulator DGCA has asked the pilot in command of a flight to promptly inform the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in case anyone onboard has suspected communicable disease.in a circular, Director General of Civil Aviation has said the requirement is being put in place to facilitate provision of medical equipment and personnel for the management of public health risk on arrival of aircraft. It asked all commercial as well as private plane operators to to promptly report a suspected communicable disease to the ATC. A communicable disease could be suspected if a person on board has a fever that is 1

2 associated with certain symptoms like appearing obviously unwell, persistent coughing, impaired breathing and persistent vomiting. UN Security Council adopts new sanctions against North Korea US President Donald Trump has commended the UN Security Council for passing a new resolution that increases sanctions on North Korea in response to its recent ballistic missile tests. Trump said China and Russia voted with the US to pass what he called the single largest economic sanctions package ever on North Korea. In a statement, the White House said the President appreciated China's and Russia's cooperation in securing passage of this resolution. 72nd anniversary of Hiroshima bombing observed in Japan Tens of thousands of people gathered in the Japanese city of Hiroshima on the 6th August to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Atomic bombings by the United States on the city. The US detonated a nuclear bomb on Hiroshima on 6th August, 1945 and on Nagasaki on 9th of August. The two bombings had killed at least 1, 29,000 people. People in Hiroshima today observed a moment of silence at 8:15 AM, the exact time the bomb hit the city. On the occasion, the Mayor of the city, Kazumi Matsui delivered a declaration of peace and urged for complete elimination of nuclear weapons. 3

4 ASEAN Regional Forum Meeting Commences in Manila The 50th ASEAN (Association of South East Nations) Regional Conference of Foreign Ministers of ASEAN member countries began in Manila, Philippines on the 5th August South East Asia foreign ministers and those from that of US, Russia, China, North and South Korea have arrived for the meeting. The main agenda for the meeting is the intercontinental ballistic missiles, and a siege by pro-islamic State group militants. Bank Unions call for strike on Aug 22, 2017 The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has served a notice for a nation-wide bank strike on August 22. The UFBU has listed a number of demands in support of its strike call, on which it has demanded action from the Indian Banks Association (IBA). Among its demands are a halt to the moves aimed at privatization of public sector banks and mergers and consolidation while not writing off corporate non-performing assets (NPAs). Willful default of loans has to be declared a criminal offence but accountability of the top management/ executives needs to be ensured. Stringent measures must be put in place to recover bad loans. Recommendations of a Parliamentary Committee for the purpose must be implemented. 4

5 North East-Agra transmission line to be inaugurated soon The North East-Agra transmission line, said to be the biggest power transmission line to be built in the country in terms of capacity, is to be inaugurated soon. This is means that cheap power from the hydro-rich North-East can now reach the central part of North India. A spokesman of the governmentowned Power Grid Corporation of India told that the line is under testing and is likely to be commissioned shortly. It is learnt that the formal inauguration of the line might happen on September 1. The multinational giant ABB, which has a big play in power transmission infrastructure globally and in India, has built the line for PGCI ATM expansion slows due to note ban A combination of factors, including cash crunch following demonetisation of high value notes announced in November last, have led to commercial banks cutting down on the number of automated teller machines (ATMs) particularly those not located in branches (offsite ATMs), latest RBI data showed. According to Reserve Bank of India (RBI), there were 98,092 off-site ATMs in June 2017 against 99,989 in the same month last year. However, on-site (located within a branch) ATMs rose to 110,385 from 101,346 in the same period. According to bankers, demonetisation, which led to cash crunch, was one of the factors that impacted ATM expansion. Yes, it is true that ATM expansion has slowed, said a senior official of a large public sector bank on the condition of anonymity. 6 India beat Sri Lanka for series win India defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 53 runs in the second cricket Test in Colombo today to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The hosts, who put up their best batting show in the series so far were all-out for 386 in the second innings despite twin centuries from Dimuth Karunaratne (141) and Kusal Mendis (110). For the winners, Ravindra Jadeja took five- wickets giving 152 runs. The third and final Test will begin on August 12 in Pallekele. India have now won back-to-back away Test series in the island nation having clinched the previous edition in 2015 by 2-1 margin. Interestingly, Kohli is the only India captain to have won two Test series in Sri Lanka. ICC suspends Ravindra Jadeja for 3rd third test India spinner Ravindra Jadeja was today suspended for the third Test against Sri Lanka as his accumulated demerit points reached six within a 24-month period following his latest breach of the ICC Code of Conduct. Jadeja threw ball at opener Dimuth Karunaratne off his own bowling when the batsman was inside the crease and the umpired ruled it dangerous. The latest breach added three demerit points to his tally, resulting in his suspension. The third Test against Sri Lanka starts August 12 in Pallekel. Jadeja has also been slapped with a 50 per cent fine on his match fee for Level 2 offence.jadeja admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by ICC Match Referees Richie Richardson. 6
