President s Report In my first year as President I am rapidly gaining much broader appreciation of the amount of work all our volunteers and staff do to provide quality cricket competition in the face of all the variables that are thrown our way every year. In every club and every team, there are quiet achievers doing their best to ensure people who love cricket get a safe enjoyable day out for the most reasonable price possible. We constantly face the variables of weather, the range of skills that any team may present and how that varies with their home and work life, the grounds, and the wide range of reasons people chose to play our cricket and therefore what makes them satisfied or dissatisfied, the list goes on! As always, thanks go to those in our organisation who contribute to the running of the competition. Laurence Christie does many unseen hours and cheerfully wears the flak from time to time when a team or teams don t get the call they d prefer. To all of my fellow Executive Committee with special mention to Peter Pfeffer and Barry Peacock who have taken on those time consuming administrative roles that no one really wants, but everyone needs. Also thanks to Hitesh Rahtod (affectionately known as HR) for taking on the role of Commissioner in dealing with those rare instances of misconduct. Managing conflict is never easy and is usually a fairly thankless task. Thanks again to the members of the Warehouse Cricket Umpires Association, led by Neil Simpson and Peter Matheson as they continue to work hard to make sure we have umpires at every match seek to improve the standard of umpiring (because umps come in a range of abilities just like players). (Should Captains provide both positive and negative feedback on Mycricket, this will really help Neil and Peter Mathieson to work on this. Thanks also to our Canteen Operators. Dan and Anne Pasikowski have, somewhat against the odds, capably filled the shoes of the Webster Family at Marchant Park. Whilst at Kianawah Park, Warren & Karen Finegan continue their vital service to our players. Yes, these canteens provide welcome food and drink, but they do importantly often represent the friendly face of our organisation to our many players and the general public or visitors. I also wish to express my appreciation to our Grounds-staff at who deliver hundreds of quality turf pitches a year, in spite of weather conditions which on occasions plays havoc and a pitch may not appear as good as they, or the players would like. That however is the nature of turf cricket, like life. It is how we make the best of it. PAGE 5 This Annual Report printed with the support of Konica Minolta Qld
Grants: In the past year, the Brisbane City Council have installed irrigation around all the turf wicket blocks at Marchant as well as Ovals 5 & 10 are fully irrigated, which is of great assistance for the grounds-staff and improving the quality of those grounds in periods of drought. Of course our power bills went skyward initially, but thanks to a Community Gambling Benefit Fund Grant of $34,000, Warehouse Cricket now has a solar system generating power at Marchant Park, 7th Brigade Park and Kianawah Park with the further addition of Battery Storage at Marchant Park, to bring those cost backs back under control. Representative (Plunkett Cup) Team Congratulations to the Players of our representative team who did well despite the loss of quite a few players. Special thanks to Michael Lloyd for his leadership of this important aspect of our organisation. Thank you also to those players who took on the extra challenge along with our coach Lance Roudenko who is adding that edge to their skills. This team represents the quality of our cricket to the outside cricket world and we can be proud of the way they perform and conduct themselves. Our annual North-South representative matches for B Grade, C Grade and Masters were again a success, with south side demonstrating dominance. This a great day out where usually opposition players get to come together to celebrate cricket, long may it continue. (Right, I present the Clem Jones Cup to Southside Captain, Terry Devine) Thanks also to our great sponsors, led by Gabba Sporting Products, the support of these sponsors really helps keep the costs to players down. PAGE 6 This Annual Report printed with the support of Konica Minolta Qld
In 2016, Warehouse Cricket signed a new 3-year Sponsorship agreement with Gabba Sporting Products. The Gabba Aussie Ball will continue as the exclusive cricket ball for Warehouse Cricket until We thank the Gaskell Family for their continued high level of support which helps to keep costs for cricketers as low as possible. That support is both valued and appreciated. The organisation management is well aware of the need to listen to members and adapt to the changing world and needs of our members, and will continue to seek ways to improve in a controlled and considered manner. This year saw the removal of paying for washouts, and as the weather gods would have it the number of washouts was fairly close to the average allowed for. Certainly the feedback is that with many teams adopting pay as you play approach, this change has been appreciated by players and certainly by team organisers. Thanks to the excellent photography of Doug O Neill for his match day photos that are developing quite an engagement on Facebook. We are currently in the process of implementing other changes such as a Member Protection Policy and also changes to improve our organisation management, looking to trial a pink ball and fundraise for a great cause, and are seeking feedback on options for the summer trophy event. Thank you again for all who contribute so much to our great sport and our organisation. I have every confidence that with that continued contribution that we will continue to do well providing safe and inclusive sport in the face of the variables of the future. 8 Webster Family Retires from Marchant Park Canteen after 20 years For almost every Saturday and Sunday of the year, over 20 years, the Webster family of Doreen & Len Webster with Daughter, Jeanette have operated the Canteen at Marchant Park, and performed many vital roles on behalf of Warehouse Cricket. In 2013 & 2014, their valued support and dedication to Warehouse Cricketers was recognized by the Association, with both Len & Doreen being awarded the honour of Life Membership of Warehouse Cricket. Their unstinting, dedicated & friendly service to players and the wider community was so important in communicating issues between visitors and players to the Executive Committee. On the occasion of the Summer Finals in April, the Webster family finally retired to spend more time with their extended family and received an outstanding ovation from Players and Umpires at a Lunch time send off. Warehouse Cricketers will miss these wonderful servants who game much to our Association. PAGE 8 This Annual Report printed with the support of Konica Minolta Qld

Winter 2015 Warehouse Cricket Teams Saturday Junior teams 56 Senior teams 64 Sunday Senior teams 132 Total 242 Summer Saturday Senior teams 52 Sunday Senior 50/50 60 Senior T20 18 Total 130 Total for Code of Conduct Report The role of Commissioner provides players, umpires and the Executive Committee with a respected process for investigating incidents both on off the field where they occur. Over the past 12 months in all but one case, the player deemed by the Commissioner to have a charge/s to answer, accepted an offered penalty without the need to convene a Code of Conduct hearing. If a player did not accept an offered penalty, then the Code of Conduct provision of a penalty of double that originally offered would have been imposed if proven guilty of the charge. When signing on for the season, all players are required to acknowledge that they are aware of the Code of Conduct and as such there should be no reason for breaches of the Code during any season. However, incidents do occur and cases that have been reported, have been actioned by the Commissioner during the Summer season & the 2016 Winter season. 11 Treasurer s Report I was elected Treasurer when I stood down as the WCAQ Chairman and ran for the Treasurer position on a corporate governance ticket. Thank you for your support with that. My family might say they wish you hadn t voted me into the role. However, it is not wrong to do the right thing. I trust that the platform for change is sustainable and hope a reversion to the past is less likely than more likely. Treasurer s reports should not be about the Treasurer. However, I must say one s health can suffer if one decides there is a need to change the office bearers at the head of a system on the basis of a corporate governance principle. I understand that those who voted for me voted not for me per se but for the desire to see a better corporate governance structure where any one person did not hold a number of key functions. There are positives from the change. These include the involvement of a fresh set of eyes from an accounting and audit back ground which found things that were awry and tried to fix them. It remains unfinished business. In any event with the assistance of the Finance Sub Committee we have turned things around a little bit. Our expenses are less and our income is more, irrespective of the number of rain out days which has damped, for the want of a better word, down on income we would have expected to collect before the introduction of the rain out policy. No apology is made for the position taken with things finance including trying to reduce operational costs. It has been very difficult to ignore mistakes in the recording of income and expenditure. As a consequence of past practices with the treatment of GST, there is evidence the WCAQ could have overpaid the ATO many thousands of dollars which, of course, has reduced the WCAQ bank account balances over time. Now, and in the future, an effort should be made to identify how much tax has been overpaid in the six years prior to this financial year and to try to get it back into our bank account. In addition, members should note that with the use of a volunteer Treasurer the WCAQ is saving, on quite conservative estimation, about $27,000 per year. This is the current estimate of the cost in outsourcing just the financial data entry that is required to manage, among other things: salary payments; accounts receivable and payable; and mandatory workers compensation premiums, superannuation guarantee and ATO requirements of the WCAQ. The WCAQ made a $93K loss last financial year as reported in the Annual Report As a consequence of operational cost cutting to date (which you experienced, for example, in the form of less handbooks per team) plus other operational cost management and revenue raising measures it can be reported that in the 12 month financial year (1 July 2015 to 30 June 2016) the WCAQ is in the black as opposed to being in the red. The Secretary/Statistician Peter Pfeffer has been Assistant Treasurer for the 2016 winter season. Part of that meant Mr Pfeffer managed the collection of winter season wicket fees along with the Development Officer Laurence Christie and myself (to a lesser extent as a consequence of major family issues and the burden of moving the WCAQ to a new financial reporting period). The potential for greater involvement by senior players and more sub-continent players involvement remains, in my view, mostly untapped. I also believe we need to rely more on the MyCricket options offered through Queensland Cricket in particular those related to the creation of draws for winter and summer. This could free up a significant amount of labour that could be devoted to fee management, not to mention greater development of the WCAQ. I vouch to you all that I never give up where the financial welfare of the WCAQ is concerned. I ll continue to do, health willing, whatever it takes to assist in the proper financial management of the WCAQ. PAGE 11 This Annual Report printed with the support of Konica Minolta Qld

I thank the Executive Committee for its tolerance and support over this essentially trying year. Special mention should also go to ex Treasurer Peter Jorgensen whose firm Jorgensen and Associates contributed much pro bono assistance to the WCAQ s financial management because, as Peter Jorgensen will attest, he loves the WCAQ. I wish the WCAQ well in the financial year 2016_2017. Barry Peacock B Admin (Commerce) C.Decl. Treasurer WCAQ 24 September 2016 delivery by Separate Ian Midgley TRIBUTE TO Long Serving Umpire For almost two decades, Umpire Ian Midgely was one of the leading umpires in Warehouse Cricket, officiating in the majority of A1/Premier League Finals over the last decade. Umpires President, Peter Mathieson, recalls his professionalism and yet friendly attitude to the players whilst holding up at all times the Spirit of the Game of Cricket. In recent years, Ian battled cancer, yet despite this challenge, was determined to continue umpiring right up to the Finals last summer. Sadly, Ian passed away on 1 st July but will long be remembered! Thank you to Ian s family who gave Ian to Warehouse Cricket for some 20 years over Winter and Summer Seasons. 31 Warehouse Cricket Umpires Association Report from Peter Mathieson In reviewing the past year of cricket provided by the Warehouse Cricket Association, it is noted that the number of teams participating in the competitions provided is similar to previous years. It would appear that some teams now prefer to play in the Sunday 50 over competition in preference to the Saturday two day competition. Family pressures and time constraints can play a significant role in which competition a player finally decides to participate. Our Examination Panel has continued to conduct training courses in order to maintain umpire numbers. The Sunday 50 over competition in Summer does not see umpired allocated to every game. Some umpires simply cannot umpire on both days each weekend. Conversely, the Winter competition on Sundays has a full book of umpires due to the availability of umpires from other associations. Less than a handful of fixture games are not allocated an umpire in the Saturday Winter competition. Players reported for breaching the Association Code of Conduct have been minimal this year. This would have been pleasing for officiating umpires who observe the game being played in the appropriate spirit. Our Secretary, Neil Simpson, continues to be available to provide advice on anything Umpire related should captains require that advice. Neil has a very commonsense approach in dealing with problems and situations that may arise. To members of the Warehouse Cricket Executive, I extend my thanks for your support of the Umpires Association during the year. The committee has always been positively responsive to any concerns raised on behalf of the umpires. In closing, I wish to congratulate all umpires on a job well done and wish all cricketers success in the seasons ahead. Peter Mathieson President above, Umpire Morrie Bernard is congratulated by Peter Mathieson on being awarded Life Membership of the Warehouse Cricket Umpires Association PAGE 13 This Annual Report printed with the support of Konica Minolta Qld
Social Media Report 2015/2016 has been a great year to introduce Warehouse Cricket players to a more functional communication strategy. Our communications strategies have given us the opportunity to improve the way we relay information to all of our clubs and players. Social media has been imperative to our new found success in the digital era and we strive to make sure that no matter where you are, you are able to receive up-to-date information, whether it be weather forecasts or competition information, in the most convenient way possible. This year has also see social media become a convenient way to relay feedback to us. With the Executive Committee's approval, I had the opportunity to collect everyone's thoughts and ideas from our Warehouse Cricket survey conducted earlier in the year. The data from the survey was collected, analysed and presented to the Executive. Some of these answers put into effect some of the suggested changes Warehouse Cricket were approached to make. For example, some of the data analysed gave us the answer that most of you didn't want to change the name of Warehouse Cricket due to historical and moral meanings, with close to 80% saying 'no' to the name change. Over the past year, we have invested in boosted posts on our Facebook page which results in new page 'likes', and some new players. These boosted posts also give you the opportunity to see our most important WCAQ competition and events information when it becomes available. I also had the opportunity to create a Warehouse Cricket Buy & Sell Group, where clubs and players are able to sell any of their unwanted new and used gear in the groups "marketplace". To post an ad or to browse ads, please search Warehouse Cricket Buy & Sell Group in your Facebook search bar. The Executive Committee has also been privileged enough to hear some honest feedback from our clubs and players and, as a result, we have had an array of suggestions and ideas discussed at our meetings when these ideas have been proposed. When we discuss new suggestions and ideas at our meetings, like any notfor-profit, we need to look at our financial obligations. However, every discussion, forum and survey you put the time into helps us look at new ideas and creates a ground for new plans. Without your feedback, we cannot implement these plans and I encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us. At the end of the day, we want to make our players happy and proud to be Warehouse Cricketers but we cannot do this without your honest feedback during these open forums and discussions. If you have any suggestions, ideas or questions, I encourage you to me at prmarketing@warehousecricket.org or look out for some our surveys and forums on our Facebook page. I hope to see you around the grounds soon! Angeline Lowther (Warehouse Cricket Marketing & PR Officer) 14
