To make sure the highly regarded small club survived, Tweed Heads Bowls Club Directors, Staff and Sub Club Committees were amongst many to offer a helping hand. After three weeks of hard work, Condong was able to reopen its doors for business. Admirably, Tweed s Heads Bowls Clubs support did not stop there, above you can see the Presentation of a $2,000 donation to the president of Condong Bowls Club, Mr Bob McBurney by THBC Men's President Russell Lulland and THBC Chairman Leigh Tynan on behalf of the THBC Men s Bowling Club. 7 UMPIRES CORNER NO:2 THBC Umpires Panel recently organised Markers/Measurers & Umpires courses to be held at THBC to increase the number of BA Accredited Officials at our club. The Club would like to congratulate the following people for becoming qualified Bowls Australia Umpires. R.Caverley, J.Frewin, P.Girdler, R.Glass, R.Kaehler, M.Larcombe, G.Moor, P.Phillips and B.Whyte. Newly Qualified BA Markers or Marker/Measurers are R.Ash, G.Ash (M/M), J.Balzarolo, M.Cooper, L.Jaffray, J.Lyon (M/M), D.Phillips, J.Stebbings and S.Wall. The Club would also like to congratulate two of our Umpires (Frances Hewitt and Russell Frewin) who recently passed a World Bowls Umpire Testing program and have been accredited with International Technical Official (ITO) status. This difficult to achieve accreditation is recognised world wide and allows them to Umpire at National and International bowls events. SCENARIO 1 : The Lead of Team A places the mat and rolls the jack which goes too far and into the ditch. The jack is returned by the skips and the Lead of Team B then moves the mat further up the green before delivering the jack. Is this permitted? Answer: Law 10.2 states that the Team B Lead may place the mat anywhere they like provided it is centered correctly and is at least 2 metres from the rear ditch and 23 metres from the front ditch. After a legal delivery of the jack by the Team B Lead, the Lead of Team A will play the first bowl from the new mat position. SCENARIO 2: The Lead of Team A rolls the jack into the ditch, Team B Lead moves the mat but also rolls the jack into the ditch. What happens now? Answer: Law 10.3 states that after an incorrect delivery of the jack by each Lead then the jack cannot be delivered again but must be placed at the T position (NOT on the T ). However the Lead of Team A may now move and place the mat in any position they prefer provided it is centered and at least 2 metres from the rear ditch and 23 metres from the front ditch. The Lead of Team A will also deliver the first bowl. SCENARIO 3: The Lead of Team A rolls the jack into the ditch, Team B Lead moves the mat but then rolls the jack less than 21 metres from the mat line or outside the rink boundaries. What happens now? Answer: Being less than 21 metres from the mat line or outside the boundaries means that the jack has now been incorrectly delivered once by each Lead. The skips will place the jack at the T position (NOT on the T ) and the Team A lead may then move the mat to a new position provided it is 2 metres from the rear ditch and 23 metres from the front ditch. The Lead of Team A will also deliver the first bowl. If anyone is interested in becoming and a BA accredited Marker, Measurer or Umpire please see Frances or Russell for more information regarding training and BA courses. Tweed Ospreys Bulletin 7
8 Bowls Communique Continued Tweed Heads Bowls Travel Club News Travel Club Update by Lol Sables (Publicity) The Tweed Heads Bowls Travel Club is celebrating its 36 th year and it s surprising that many of our Bowls Club Members still aren t aware that we exist. If you are just hearing about the travel club for the first time, why not come to one of our monthly meetings to find out a little more about what we do. The Tweed Heads Bowls Travel Club meets on the first Monday of every month and have a day out on the second Monday. Most of our day trips cost around $45 pp which includes your coach fare, morning tea and lunch, plus site seeing. For the majority a day out lasts for approximately 7 hrs, which is without doubt great value. Ros Calverley & Neville Jenkins Coming up we will be having our very popular Xmas in July day trip, where we will be going down to the Uki Hotel. I don't think we have been there before so it will be a new adventure for all of us. Anyone is welcome to join us for this day out, therefore if interested, why not give Norma or Brian Neill a call on or feel free to have a chat with me at anytime. It was sad to hear that our treasurer Terry Patton and his wife Jan have resigned from the Travel Club, they have both been members longer than I can remember and they will be sadly missed. We now have a vacancy for a Treasurer and luckily Norma Neill has offered to stand in for Terry until the end of the year or until we find a replacement. From all the members we would like to thank Norma in doing so. Once again I am asking if anyone has any suggestions as to where the Travel Club might be interested in visiting, please talk to any of the Committee representatives or myself so we can pass it on to the Secretary to follow up. A Hens luncheon was arranged for the lovely Ros Calverley last month which was open to all THBC ladies and a few visitors from South Tweed as well. It was said to be a great day with Ros decked out in a bride to be sash and veil. Ros Calverley and Neville Jenkins get married this month and we at Tweed Heads Bowls Club would like to wish them all the best. Congratulations to both of you. Tweed Ospreys Bulletin 8
9 Representing Australia JESSICA SRISAMRUAYBAI From May 31st to June 2 our youngest THBC star Jessica Srisamruaybai was busy representing Australia at the 2017 Trans Tasman series held at Broadbeach. Part of the winning Development contingent Jessica played along side aspiring internationals including Kristina Krstic, Ellen Ryan, Bolivia Millerick, Aaron Teys, Corey Wedlock and Nathan Pedersen. The green and gold team claimed a stellar haul of every accolade on offer, which consisted of seven trophies, one for each event in addition to the Overall Open Trophy and Overall Development Trophy. Congratulations and well done Jessica! Tweed Ospreys Bulletin 9
