4 Welcome Welcome to the Tour! It is with great excitement that we head off to Samoa this July to play, as an invitational team, in the World Cup Qualifier in Apia. We will be playing Samoa, Japan and Papua New Guinea. This builds on the development tour we took to Fiji last year. We loved the friendship and the hospitality of the Pacific, and we are delighted to be returning. This year, we are proud to have struck up a community partnership with Maddie Riewoldt's Vision. Maddie was a young woman who loved sport. Tragically, her life was taken at a young age through Stem Cell Failure. Maddie's Vision is about creating awareness around, and finding a cure for, this disease of young people. The young women who are part of the CWOB Tour are lucky enough to be able to pursue their dreams in sport. The partnership with MRV allows our players to recognise this, and to be grateful for their opportunities. We look forward to wearing the MRV/CWOB polo shirt with pride. Bryce has been working on the fitness and skills of our team for some time. He will continue to "weave his magic" with our players to create a style of cricket which is fresh, feminine and bold. Bryce ensures that everyone supports each other, and affords each player the confidence to go beyond their expectations of themselves. We welcome back the Crew of Virginia, Elizabeth and (Nurse) Miranda. While always enjoying themselves, their behind the scenes work to keep everyone representing the brand correctly, to be clean and laundered, and healthy, is invaluable. 4 This year, we welcome two new members of the Crew: Mikayla Haddow and Lewis Keane. Mikayla is the veteran of three tours, and is a former Senior Player. Mikayla, who has been studying Health Sciences at Deakin, is looking to pursue a Masters Degree in this area next year, will be our Team Manager. We are delighted that Mikayla has seamlessly made the transition to staff.
5 Welcome Lewis was on secondment to Cricket Fiji last year through a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade program. We were very lucky to have Lewis work on our tour at the Fiji end to make it such a wonderful experience. Lewis has been working part time with CWOB this year as Program Manager. He is currently doing a PhD in Sports Diplomacy in the Pacific. We welcome back senior players of Alana King, Chelsea Moscript, Charlotte Killeen and Grace Lee. Alana and Charlotte have both done the Cricket Japan Internship, and Chelsea will be doing it either side of the Samoa Tour. It is great to have Alana back on tour, especially now as she on a contract with both the VicSpirit and Melbourne Stars. Alana will be a wonderful mentor for the younger players. I would like to make special mention of Laura Piekarski and Jane Livesey from the ICC East Asia Pacific. Without the strong support for the work of the CWOB by the ICC, we would not have the opportunities we do to play national teams. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to Ken whose incredible belief in, and support for, CWOB makes everything come together. Without his influence, we would not be able to open the doors we do. It is important to remember that CWOB is greater than the sum of its parts. The spirit with which our girls play, and the opportunities and friendships within the team, and with other teams, creates the momentum to grow and influence the women's game, not just locally, but around the world. Girls, wear your uniform with pride and respect, learn more about other cultures, and have a fun and fulfilling tour. Clare Cannon Chair Cricket Without Borders 5

21 The Way We Play Cricket Without Borders plays a fresh brand of cricket which is all about developing the individual skills of its players, and the women s game as a whole. Our philosophy is: Be Bold Show Sportsmanship Have Fun Make Friends The CWOB way of play allows for a free flowing game as girls are encouraged to play their shots and try new skills. The purpose of any game is always about developing the players cricket first and foremost, without an eye on the scoreboard. Competitiveness is not lost, however, in this format: if you take away the fear of the win/lose scenario, the scoreboard will take care of itself. The winner in this format is always the game itself. CWOB values respect for the game, respect for the players, and respect for the umpires and officials as paramount. Once these are taken as given, the enjoyment of a good contest is what it is all about. The wonderful thing about cricket is that it is not all about being on the field. Friendships and fun can be had while waiting to bat or running the drinks CWOB girls always take the opportunity to talk and make friends with the opposition team. This is the way friendships are forged and opportunities are grasped. CWOB style is young, fresh, dynamic and feminine. The aim is always personal best. 21
