1 Volume 15, Issue 4 GWRRA Texas - Region H - Marshall, TX April, 2015 Chapter I meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Jalapeno Tree in Longview 508 North Eastman Road (Hwy 80 at Hwy 259) on the east side of Longview We eat at 6 and Meet at 7 pm Everyone is Invited! Come see what we re up to! Ken Sladaritz has been our webmaster for the past many years and he is now turning this task over to Joe Milton. Ken has done a great job and saved the chapter a lot of money in web hosting fees. We all thank him greatly for his work in keeping our information current. Joe has stepped up and virtually overnight he has set up a new webpage. We have kept the same web address, but if you go there now you will see a slightly different look. Region H rally is next week in Marshall and there will be a changing of the guard this year. Jack Wagner has been promoted to a national position and hopefully at the rally a new Region H Director will be named. It is also a chance to interact with the new Texas District Directors, Mike and Robin Thacker. I also encourage everyone to support the Texas District Couple, Cliff and Gillian Allen as they compete for the Region H couple of the year. Cliff and Gillian are transplanted Texans, originating in Great Britain. Hopefully things will start during up a bit around here and we can do some more weekend riding. My relatives in Oklahoma are still suffering a suffer drought in the western parts, so maybe the moisture can shift their direction. There was a good turnout at the camp in Alley Creek last in March. Weather was great and food was plentiful. Everyone felt so good that we all bought Girl Scout cookies. Let s also plan to ride safe and I will see you out on the road soon. 3 Bill & Libby Parrish Chapter Educators TOPIC: Melanoma Awareness Education and Early Prevention Americans have a 1 in 74 lifetime risk of developing melanoma, which kills almost 7,800 people each year. Melanoma is often curable if detected and treated early. Can it happen to me? -Prolonged exposure to sun, no daily sunscreen used, fair complexion, red hair, freckling and increased age. Do you fit one of these criteria then yes it can happen to you! Melanoma is most often found in men on the area between the shoulders and hips or on the head and neck. It is found often on the legs of women. Folks with an increased risk for melanoma also include those with a personal or family history of pigmented skin blemishes or melanoma, a fair complexion, red hair, or a severe childhood sunburn. Prevention and risk reduction includes protecting yourself from prolonged exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet radiation [tanning booth], always wear sunscreen SPF 15+ outdoors, and have an annual full-body screen by a dermatologist. The sudden appearance of a new mole in or near an existing mole or a mole that has changed shape or color should be considered suspicious. Cancerous and malignant lesions are typically irregular in shape with uneven borders with many shades of brown + black and larger than 6mm [the size of a pencil eraser]and grow quickly. Benign or non-malignant moles are typically round or symmetrical with smooth, even borders, a single shade of brown, smaller than 6mm and grow slowly. Treatment includes excision, lymph node dissection and then possibly injection treatments of Interferon after surgery. Riding your bike during all this treatment may not be an option! Awareness is your key to another wonderful year of bike riding, so pay as close attention to your body as you do to caring/ polishing your Goldwing. Go to for more information and pictures. 8 Bacon Wrapped Cheese & Mushroom Stuffed Chicken (submitted by Barbara Milton) 4 medium boneless skinless chicken breasts 8 slices uncooked bacon 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese 2 tbs chopped fresh parsley or 1 tbs dehydrated 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp pepper 2 tbs butter Melt butter over medium heat in a large skillet. Saute onion & mushrooms until tender. Remove from heat to cool. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Meanwhile prepare chicken breasts for stuffing by butterflying and cutting a pocket Mix shredded cheese and parsley into the cooled mushroom/onion mixture. Sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper. Divide evenly and stuff into pocket created in the chicken. Fold as shown in the video link above. Carefully wrap each folded breast with 2 slices of bacon, securing with a toothpick if needed. Place on a deep baking sheet or in an oblong ovenproof baker. Bake for minutes, depending on thickness of rolls. Chicken is done when juices run clear or internal temperature is 180 degrees F. Serves 4.

14 Information about Our Group Rides If we are coming to your town and you would like to meet up with us, give the Road Captain or Chapter Director a call. As a courtesy to all members, it is important to be ready to leave at the departure time. All bikes should be fueled and bladders emptied ahead of time! On long rides, we will have a planned fuel stop. We will plan a variety of rides. We hope this variety will give you an opportunity to pick and choose. If the weather is bad come on in your car. If you have a CB, you will find us on Channel 1. ALL RIDE TIMES ARE KICK STANDS UP!
