Thank you to Brenda McQueen and Lois Ashuckian for doing the Apparel and Sunshine for Linda Perdue and Marge Lovelady will be their replacements. Bob Taylor is looking for someone to take his place as Vice P resident of Fresh Water for this year. Please contact me for details. The trip to the Viejas Casino was a great success, with 42 members attending. Rumor has it that a few came home with more than they went with. The Holiday/Awards Banquet was held at the Rancho Bernardo Country Club. With Ken Harrison being the MC and KT Taylor, Betty Allen and Anitra Gehrke doing the coordinating, it w as a nice kickoff to the holiday season with lots of fun and laughter. On December 15th we had the first Fishing Challenge of the season held at Lake Wohlford. Great weather, good turnout and nice fish, for more check out the Fresh Water section of this letter. Local lakes are currently being stocked with trout every other week. Now is a good time to give them a try. Don t forget your 2017 fishing license. The Escondido Trout Derby at Lake Dixon was a huge success. With as many as 8 fish over 12 pounds and on the last day the new lake record was caught weighing pounds. 2 B F Program January s meeting will feature our year in review with a marvelous video presented by Ron Parker, and a discussion on the 40-year history of the club, as researched by our historian, Dave Gehrke. See you on January 13 th. Coming up in future 2017 meetings, representatives from Department of Fish and Wildlife, Hubbs-Sea World hatchery, and the desert fauna of Borrego Springs by San Diego Union columnist Ernie Cowan. Fresh Water Ken Harrison Programs UPCOMING TRIPS Lake Yucaipa Jan Tomas and Carmen Martinez will be our Wagon Masters. Our first trip of See Tomas or Carmen if you haven t signed up and would still like to go. Lake Morena Feb The lake of big fish and indoor (gazebo) festivities. Due to change in county regulations reservations are being handled differently. In order to get the gazebo we need 10 sites under one name. Please bring a check for $ made out to SAE to Jan. meeting to reserve a spot. Currently we have 11 signed up, but only 4 paid. If we don t get enough checks at Jan. meeting, we may have to cancel. DECEMBER FISHING CHALLENGE The first Fishing Challenge of the season was Thursday, Dec. 15th at Lake Wohlford. Fourteen anglers signed-up. Fishing was slow, but several nice trout (2 t0 4+ pounds) were caught. The biggest by Bill Gifford at 4lb. 7oz. Ron Parker took 2nd place w ith 3lb 13oz. P robably the highlight w as the grilled sausage lunch provided by Ron Parker and Ken Harrison. Thanks again Ron. 2

3 Fresh Water Senior Anglers of Escondido s 2 nd Trout Challenge Thursday, January 5 th Lake Wohlford 6:00 am to 12 noon True democracy? When asked at the last Challenge, about the next challenge, a number of anglers said, If you go to Dixon I won t be coming. Mob rule! So the event is moved to Wohlford where they are stocking 3,000# of Nebraska Tailwalkers the day before, and offer seniors a discount on boat rentals. Reminders: Don t forget to buy a 2017 Fishing License (Wohlford requires a CA fishing license) $5.00 (senior) daily permit Permits are no longer sold at the café store. Purchase permits directly at Ranger Station. Cash only Senior Discount Boat Rental Day only a $20 rental. $5.00 Challenge Entry Fee. If you sign up, you have to pay up, unless cancelled 24 hours in advance. First and Second Place cash awards. Weigh-in no later than 12 noon, at upper parking lot picnic tables. We can Only go UP. Dave Gehrke w as fishing near La Jolla and caught this Starry Rockfish weighing a whopping 1.27# giving him the largest fish for the month of December and the largest fish to start the new fishing year. 4 Club Events AWARDS BANQUET AND HOLIDAY PARTY The Committee Our Master of Ceremonies, Ken Harrison The Humanitarian Award went to Ron and Carol Parker Largest Class II Award went to Warren Estes The Founders award was presented to Marge Lovelady Karen Springer, our new Lady Angler with the three previous recipients. Larry received the Largest Fish Of a Species Award Warren and Nat Jim Stevenson received the Salt Water Class I Fariba and Jimmy Sally and Dale Janice, Marcia and Lyla What a great evening. Fifty-seven members and guests attended. The food was great, the Holiday Trivia Game hosted by our MC was really fun, and the door prizes were enjoyed (by those who won). And of course, you can t beat spending the evening with good friends. Ron Parker s video running in the background reminded us of just how much fun we have during the year. I wish there was enough room for more pictures, because everyone looked great! Bob, Priscilla and Dave. If there was an award for those who travelled the farthest... 4
