Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Michigan R. E. C. Donald L. Galway, PGHP 1200 Wright Ave., STE #C-096 Alma MI Phone: (989) Jane Todd, Editor of Triple Tau 1200 Wright Ave., #281 Alma, MI Phone: (989) Official Publication of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons Web Site: Greetings to all: This August issue had a lot of information to put in it. I am not able to travel to the Grand York Rite Session because of my illness. No, I am not allergic to people I just happen to have 8 total joint replacements. There are days they all work and then well, never mind. I just keep mustering through the day. This is one of those days. My deadline is WAY up and we must go to print. Please DO go to the session. You will be gladly welcomed. Please meet and greet those line officers who are moving on and those line officers who are moving up! My fondest memories of the Grand York Rite Session were at the Doubletree Hotel in Bay City. On the top floor is the bar. They serve real food up there and it is quiet and very comfortable. Nice place to just sit and catch your breath. The last reminder - 8th-11th of August Grand York Rite Session will be held in Bay City, Michigan. The main hotel is The Doubletree Hotel. For more information go to: I hope to see some of you at the Masonic Pathways sometime. Please come by and see the Old Folks. We are having our resident picnic on August the 4 th. Many of the youth groups and other Masonic organizations come to help the residents who need help with getting their meal. We feed everyone who comes, and it will be outside behind the Jack Sanders Nursing Center. It screws up the parking for the working crew but we have a great time. It will be from noon till 2ish. Thank you to all who helped me put this and all the Triple Tau issues together. It is very difficult to get all the articles in a timely manner. I sure appreciate the effort you have tried to keep my deadline. Jane Todd, Editor of the Triple Tau P.S.: Master Yoda said: Do or do not! There is no try! (Unless you are playing a game of golf!!!) 1

RICHARD HITCH Grand High Priest Lady Connie Phone: (734) Greetings Companions: Well Companions, this will be my last article as the Grand High Priest. It has been an extremely fun journey. I had the opportunity to go to places and meet with people that I may not have if I had not been your Grand High Priest. I am hopeful that I was able to serve you and the Craft with honor, as you only deserve. I must thank each and every one of you for this opportunity. Without all of you, your trust, guidance, hospitality and friendly cooperation, I could not have accomplished anything. I only wish that I could have done more. If I fell short somewhere, I humbly apologize and do not be discouraged or give up on this Grand Chapter. Please let the new Grand Officers know what the situation is, so they can attempt to fix it. As I step aside as the Grand High Priest, I want you to know that I will still do whatever I can to help you and the Craft. All you have to do is ask. Also, I know that my successor will do an even better job and I wish him the best of luck and any assistance he may need. As many of the Chapters are dark, I hope that you are spending as much time with your family and friends as you can. If not for the support of our families and friends, none of us would be the Brothers, Companions, or Sir Knights that we are. So as the heat of summer continues for some short couple months more, please enjoy, be safe, take care, love your family and each other. There has always been a saying that I have loved since I was raised as a Master Mason that sums up my current adventure and feeling; Happy to meet, Sorry to part, Happy to meet again. Companions as I stated above, I am going out as Grand High Priest, but I will still be as active in the York Rite as I am able. So, if there is anything you want to know, or I can do, please let me know. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and God bless. You can still feel free to reach out to me at any time with your ideas, complaints, question or suggestions; richhitch62@gmail.com or leave a message at Very Humbly and R.E.C. Rich Hitch, Grand High Priest 2

*Please copy as needed R. E. C. DONALD L. GALWAY, P.G.H.P. GRAND SECRETARY Lady Sherry 1200 Wright Ave. Alma, MI (989) Secretary s Scribbles I usually ask where has the month gone? This month I must ask where has the year gone? Shortly after you receive this copy of the Triple Tau, the York Rite Grand Session will begin. The session this year will be held in the Double Tree Hotel, 1 Wenonah Park Place, Bay City Michigan I hope to see all of you in attendance for the sessions. This is your chance to have your voice heard and to see just what happens at our sessions. If you have never attended before then make plans to attend. I will use this opportunity to inform the (5) five chapters that have not sent the annual return into the office of the Grand Secretary, that they may attend the session but will not have a vote. You still have time to get them into the office. I will except them up to the beginning of the opening at the session which is 8:30 AM sharp! July was an interesting month starting with the birthday of our country which I hope everyone enjoyed. We sometimes lose sight of what the holiday is about, but we should never forget the sacrifices that were made to make us free. I had the pleasure of taking a trip to the north county for a few days to enjoy the summer season. I was not disappointed as it was very warm the first of July this year up north. My trip was saddened by the passing of our Grand Scribe s Lady Midge. Our deepest sympathies go out to Carl and the family. While we were getting over that sorry time, we were informed of the passing of another member of our Grand Family. Judy Luykx on July 20,2018, and once again our deepest sympathies go out to Stanley and the family for their loss. The York Rite picnic and golf outing was held the weekend of 21 st and 22 nd if you did not attend you missed a great time. The picnic is always a good time. You get a chance to relax and enjoy the company of other members of York Rite in a relaxed atmosphere. There were the usual board games and card games for those who wished to play, but the highlight of the day was the food, which was superb! If you left hungry it was your fault. Sunday was a perfect day for Golf, and although we were a couple of teams short this year, those of us that played had a great time. The team of Donald and Steve Trumbull, along with Phil Vaughn and James Rutherford won the day. I am sure they will face some stiff competition next year. I know of at least two teams that want the title back. Have a great rest of the summer and I hope to see all of you at the York Rite Grand Session. R.E.C. Donald L. Galway, Grand Secretary, P.G.H.P., K.Y.G.C.H. and O.P.C. 3

ATTENTION ALL HIGH PRIESTS! Master s Pin At the Grand Chapter Convocation and you are the High Priest or his proxy, you should receive these pins as part of the packet of information distributed by the Grand Chapter at registration. These pins are to be presented to the newly installed Worshipful Master, preferably at the time of the lodge s Public Installation of Officers, but not later than the end of February. The 50+ Chapters have pins to be presented. This is an outstanding program and has been sponsored by the Grand Chapter of Michigan for more than 30 years. It is an excellent time to put Capitulary Masonry in the forefront, and what better time to present the Worshipful Master his pin than at his installation. Any companion can make this presentation, for example: The High Priest, Past High Priest, any Officer, or any active informed member. However, this presentation should be made in a dignified and proper manor. The pin should be presented in person. (Do Not Mail the Pin) The Method of presentation is left up to the Individual making the presentation. It can be short, simple and to the point. It can include an in-depth explanation of the history of the Master Pin and Royal Arch Degree. The following short presentation may be used in your formal presentation: On behalf of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Michigan and through your local Royal Arch Chapter, I take great pleasure in presenting your Master s Pin. It is a small token of respect the Royal Arch Masons hold for the Brother who occupies the Oriental Chair of King Solomon and a demonstration of the Friendship of the Royal Craft. This pin is dated in recognition of your year as Master of this Lodge under the Square, the symbol of your office. In presenting this pin, I and all Royal Arch Masons offer you our congratulations and best wishes for your term of office. Are there any other Royal Arch Masons in attendance? I would ask that they rise at this time, and assist me, in making this presentation. Making yourselves known, that you are here to support your Lodge through the educational teachings of the Royal Arch. R.E.C. Mike Roberts, Grand King 4

REC Carl Peterson Grand Scribe REC John A. Ames Grand Captain of Host Lady Judi Companions All: On behalf of the family and myself, we thankyou for your condolences with the untimely passing of Midge. The prayers and fellowship shown has carried us through these hard and unsure days. I'm looking forward to seeing each of you at the upcoming Grand Session. R.E.C. Carl J. Peterson, Grand Scribe, K.Y.C.H. One night (a long time ago in a jurisdiction far, far, away) a brother was heading home after indulging a bit too much at the festive board after his lodge meeting. He was weaving a little across the path, steadying himself against the lamp-posts. A concerned policeman saw him, and walked over. "Well sir, where are we going at this time of night?" he asked. The brother replied "I, officer, am going to a lecture on Masonry!" Bemused, the policeman asked, "And just where are you going to hear a lecture on Masonry at this time of night?" The brother replied, "From my wife, when I get home!" Greetings Companions: Well, here it is August and the hot weather is with us. If you are going to work outside remember to drink at least a pint of water before starting to work in this heat. Take breaks every 45 minutes and drink more water, not ice water but water about tap temperature. August also means, Grand Session and the installation of new officers. As we witness the end of the York Rite year, we see M.E.C. Richard Hitch, M.I.G.M. Gary Paquet, and R.E.G.C. Michael Whiting step down. We thank them for their many years of service in their Grand York Rite lines and hope to see them often after the Grand Session. Seems like only a few years ago that I was elected Grand Master of the First Veil. I am now looking forward to being advanced to Grand Scribe. In July, we had the Grand York Rite Golf Outing as I have to write this before the actual event. I cannot give you the exact number, but we are down from last year a bit. My mailing list is out of date and I got back many of registration forms this year. As the mailing address does not always match the address of the Masonic Temple at which you meet, I am asking all the Secretaries and Recorders if they would me the proper mailing addresses of your respective York Right body. This includes the York Rite Colleges and the Allied Masonic Degree addresses too. If you wish to receive these mailings at your own home address feel free to do so just let me know which York Rite body you are receiving them for. My address is GWhunter51@gmail.com. Well as they say, there is not much more fit to print so until next month, good health, safe travels, and God Bless. R.E.C. John A. Ames, Grand Captain of the Host 5

GARY L. PAQUET GARY PAQUET, M.I.G.M. Most Ill. Grand Master M.I.G.M. Phone: (810) Phone: (810) ANTHONY CHAMBERLIN, P.M.I.G.M. Grand Recorder Phone: (810) Greetings Everyone! I hope you are getting out and enjoying this wonderfully warm summer. It s amazing to me that it s already mid-july as I write this. What s more amazing is that this Cryptic year has flown by and this will be my last entry as the Most Illustrious Grand Master. It has truly been an honor and privilege to serve this wonderful organization. As a former teacher, I felt it important to include, in at least of few of these Triple Tau Articles, educational pieces. There is so much more to Masonry than one initially understands. The lessons we learn from our degrees, the explanation of artifacts, it s only the surface. It can take years to fully comprehend the deeper meaning of Masonry and that is one of the beauties of it. While the messages are powerful in our lessons, it s only the beginning. Never stop striving to learn more by continuing to seek further light in Masonry. In June, the Annual Yooper Festival was once again front and center. This year it was held in St. Ignace. The Companions from the region, as well as the Grand Chapter, performed the Royal Arch Degree in the morning and did a fine job! In the afternoon it was time for the Companions to present the Cryptic Degrees. Thank you to all the Companions and officers that came from far and near to be part of this special day. We were able to Greet six new Companions. After dinner, it was time for Yooper Council No. 125 and induction ceremony. There were 15 new members who become part of this fastest growing Council in Michigan. After the induction ceremony, the Grand Yooperite, Bill LeVeque, gave a brief history of the Council and explained this is one of the ways we generate money for our youth groups. I m pleased to say we were able to raise $ Thank you to all who generously contributed. Also, this year s class was named in honor of two fine Companions that we lost this year, M.I.C. Dwight Humm and Illustrious Companion Wayne Caruss. Well, I see the space is quickly dwindling. It s time for me to sign off. Thank you to all for your support. I could not have done it without being surrounded by many special individuals. I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best. Thank you for all you do for this fine organization and for Masonry as a whole. It has certainly been a pleasure to serve. Take care and God Bless the journey to wherever it takes you! Gary L. Paquet, M.I.G.M. Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of Michigan 6

GRAND COMMANDERY KNIGHTS TEMPLAR Michael Whiting R.E. Grand Commander Lady Jeanne 615 Melrose, Pontiac, MI (248) Loren A. Winn, PGC Grand Recorder Lady Gail POB 822 Pinckney, MI (734) Greetings Sir Knights and Ladies: As I sit here, writing my last letter for the Triple Tau as your Grand Commander, I am suffering from a case of the shingles on my face and scalp. Although it came very close to my eye, I was very lucky it didn t get in it. The warm summer we are having is making the discomfort just that much worse. I am hoping that I will be cleared up by the Grand Conclave. I am sorry to have missed the Parades in Northville and Traverse City, as well as the Grand Session of the Grand Bethel of Job s Daughters during my affliction. At this time, I want to thank the Grand Officers, Past Grand s and Committeemen for their commitment to this Grand Commandery this past year. You have all made this year so much easier for Lady Jeanne and me. We both wish for Sir Knight Shawn and Lady Diane the very best this coming year. We have much confidence in your Leadership and your Corp of Officers for your year as Grand Commander. We know we leave this Grand Commandery in good hands. I would be remiss if I didn t thank Lady Jane Todd, the Editor of the Triple Tau. It can t be easy to coordinate the three York Rite Bodies and the three Youth Groups into one paper. You have our deep appreciation for everything you have done for Me, Lady Jeanne, and our various bodies. To the Sir Knights of Pontiac Commandery #2, I thank you for the support you have always given to me. They may call you Number 2, but you will always be Number 1 with me. As I look back at all the years I have spent as a Grand Officer it has been most rewarding. When I first applied for a Petition to join my Lodge I had no idea where it would lead me. Lady Jeanne and I are thankful for all the Friends we have made through this journey and the many Honors we have received. We look forward to once again sitting on the sidelines. I learned a long time ago when playing the game of Chess, that when the game is over the King and the Pawn return to the same box. Thank you again for all the love and support during this journey. In UNITY, S.K. Michael Whiting, R.E.G.C. of Michigan 7

DeMolay Wow, the Summer is going fast! School will be starting soon, and the Installation Month is upon Michigan DeMolay. All Chapters are currently planning their Installation of Officers and as soon as they confirm their dates they will be published on the Michigan DeMolay web site. We attended the Grand Bethel Session in July and again had a wonderful time. Thank you to Michigan Jobs Daughters for extending courtesies to us. We had a wonderful time. The State Officers for this year have completed their training in Flint at the end of this July. They have formed their committees for the upcoming year. We will officially hand over command to a new crew of State Officers as Michigan DeMolay Conclave will be held on August 10-12, They have many plans for the current DeMolay year which includes a picnic and a Ball next Spring. Many other things are in the works but first the State Team is making plans to attend the Grand Worthy Advisors Reception on August 25, Our big event that the officers and members are anticipating happens on September 9, This is when the youth groups will hold the Fantastically Fun Filled Fall Festival, or 5F s for short. This year s event will again be held at the International Society in Howell, Michigan. Cost is only $5.00 which includes lunch. The young people will have games and competitions while enjoying a wonderful Fall day. If you can, come out and join these three youth groups. They would appreciate your support. Please try to attend at least one Installation in September and show these remarkable young men that the Masonic Family is willing to support them. If there is anything that Michigan DeMolay can do to help support any of the works of the Companions: Please let a State Officer know or contact the Executive Officer. Vince D Aguanno, D.H.H.S. Any questions about Michigan DeMolay: daguannon@comcast.net. 8

INTERNATIONAL ORDER OF RAINBOW FOR GIRLS Michigan Rainbow The end of June found Michigan Rainbow at Masonic Pathways in Alma. It was Grand Assembly time. Grand Assembly is three days of pretty awesome Ritual work, greeting our Masonic guests, electing new leadership and finishing one Grand Family year while starting another. Some folks would say that Grand Assembly is actually a four-day sleepover. Some nights are very long (re: no sleep) and some nights are very short (re: no sleep) but all-in-all it s a very good time. Mckenzie Pollick, the now Junior Past Grand Worthy Advisor, presided beautifully. McKenzie s theme for the year has been Star Wars. When you entered the Assembly Room, you entered through a light tunnel. The podium in the East was a starship command center. There were Star Wars characters and symbols in every place. There was even a starship flying through the galaxy on the balcony wall in the West. This new year begins with Samantha Brock from Jackson Assembly as our Grand Worthy Advisor. Samantha s theme is Empowered women are powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description. The symbols for the year are powerful princesses, cats, crowns, and glitter. The colors for the year are dusty rose and cranberry. Wish Upon a Teen is the charity for the year. They help ill teenagers realize some of their dreams like a special prom or being able to decorate their own bedroom. The year was off to bang as we attended Job s Daughters Grand Session in Grand Rapids. This week there are 25 of us headed to Hampton, Virginia to attend our 47 th Supreme Assembly Session. Mckenzie will serving as a Supreme Page and has a Ritual part in the Grand Cross of Color Investiture. Samantha will be participating in the Cavalcade of Flags, which is a very fast-moving drill while carrying the State of Michigan Flag while wearing a white formal. It should be a very exciting 5 days Grand Bow Stations Grand Officers Thank you to each one of you who were able to attend our Grand Assembly Session. We do appreciate you being a part of our state meeting. We look forward to seeing you on the road. Maureen Riley, Supreme Inspector 9

Hello Companions and All! Wow! What a whirlwind July has been so far! Michigan Job's Daughters held our Annual Grand Session, where we had the "changing of the guard". You may notice that my own title has dropped a word...no longer "Vice", but for real, the Adult in charge for a whole year. For those of you who don't know me, I am Terri Brower, Grand Guardian - from Bethel # 10 in Grand Rapids, where I was a member a long time ago, and where my own daughter was raised. Here is a picture with my team. The beautiful young lady in the middle, is our newly installed Grand Bethel Honored Queen, Miss Crystal McDonald, from Bethel # 30 in Grand Blanc. The gentleman on her right is John Bodnar, Associate Grand Guardian - from Bethel # 9 Escanaba-Gladstone: We are very excited to share that our Grand Family is made up of daughters from every active Bethel in Michigan. Here is a picture of our whole group. The Grand Council and the Grand Bethel Officers and choir are standing, and the Grand Bethel Representatives are seated in the front. Introducing the Grand Family: 10

Michigan Job's Daughters line officers are selected by election. Each Grand Session, we elect the babies of the team. This year Miss Hannah Flowers (from Bethel # 23 Walled Lake) was elected to Grand Bethel Junior Princess, joining Miss Crystal as G.B.H.Q., and Miss MaKeelie Lemery as Grand Bethel Senior Princess (from Bethel # 86 Ravenna). We are very excited to announce the election of Tammy Dankenbring (from my own Bethel # 10 Grand Rapids) as Grand Marshall, and Jay Giese (from Bethel # 18 Menominee) as Grand Outer Guard. This year was special, because our Grand Treasurer served out her 7-year term, and we also had to elect a new Grand Treasurer. Some of you "MAY" recognize JoNeil Conley (from Bethel # 61 Mt Pleasant), who has been elected to serve as Grand Treasurer: Others pictured: Amy Flowers - Vice Grand Guardian (Bethel # 23 Walled Lake), Jeff McDonald - Vice Associate Grand Guardian (Bethel # 30 Grand Blanc), Marsha McDonald - Grand Secretary (Bethel # 30 Grand Blanc), Marcia Lemery - Grand Guide (Bethel # 86 Ravenna, and Dennis Flowers - Grand Inner Guard (Bethel # 23 Walled Lake). All the gentlemen pictured are Master Masons in their various lodges as well! This upcoming year, with the help of a BEST Community Grant from the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation, Michigan Job's Daughters has partnered with the Pay It Forward Foundation and will be actively committing Random Acts of Kindness throughout our communities and our state, in the hope of creating a ripple effect around the world! We love and appreciate all the assistance from our Masonic Family, and invite you to participate, and be the change in your little corner of the world! For this month, we are jumping right into our year, with a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah. During the week of July 22-28, for our Supreme Session in the State of Utah! I'm sure I will have a lot more stories to tell for next month's article. We look forward to seeing you all at upcoming events this month, including the Masonic Pathways picnic on August 4, the York Rite Grand Reception on August 10, visiting our friends at DeMolay Conclave August 10-12, and the Rainbow Grand Worthy Advisor's Reception on August 25! Respectfully submitted, Terri Brower, Grand Guardian Be the Change YOU Wish to See in the World! 11
