2 Page 2 Ethos 2018 Our theme for this year is God is Love. This will run alongside the Catholic Schools Office theme of Keeping our children safe. Our theme finds its basis in the bible reading: 1 John 4:7-21New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) Ethos God Is Love 7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us. Charity Projects Our charity projects for this year include Hospice East Rand in Term 1, Boksburg SPCA in Term 2 and Life Link Pregnancy Crisis Centre in Term 3. The girls have been doing a great job of feeding our piggy in the office. Keep it up Girls! We plan to support the SPCA for our Mandela Day Project. Liturgical list Easter (30 March 2 April) is the next celebration on our calendar. Thereafter we will have the Ascension Day Mass on May 10 th. We encourage all to knit squares for blankets for the less fortunate. The blankets will all be displayed at the Mass.

3 Page 3 Ethos Shrove Tuesday celebrations Shrove Tuesday is a day of celebration as well as penitence, because it's the last day before Lent. It is the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time of abstinence, of giving things up. So Shrove Tuesday is the last chance to indulge yourself, and to use up the foods that aren't allowed in Lent. Giving up foods: but not wasting them. In the old days there were many foods that observant Christians would not eat during Lent: foods such as meat and fish, fats, eggs, and milky foods. So that no food was wasted, families would have a feast on the shriving Tuesday, and eat up all the foods that wouldn't last the forty days of Lent without going off. Pancakes became associated with Shrove Tuesday as they were a dish that could use up all the eggs, fats and milk in the house with just the addition of flour. ( Prayer Group We run the Pre-School Prayer Group as a service to our Pre-School community. The prayer group was started to enable more people to pray for those in need. It is a notification tool much like a prayer chain, where the first person passes a message to the second, who passes it to the third, and so on. Having a group just means that the message goes out once. No replies are necessary as the prayers are done individually. Please fill in the reply slip below if you would like to be part of this group. Please note this is a WhatsApp group, so you will need the app on your phone. If you find yourself in need of prayer, or know of someone in need, please let me know and I will let all in the group know. No explanations are necessary as often the reason we need prayer is very personal and private. You do not need to belong to the group to make a request. Please remember this is not a chat group for general school discussions. It is only intended as a prayer notification service. 10 Water Page 10 The Pre-school joined the drive to collect water for the residents in Cape Town. Wow what incredible girls and parents we have. We collected 500 litre bottles and many small bottles. The girls helped deliver the water bottles to the Gift of the Givers truck by carrying the heavy bottles, towing them on the back of their bikes or pushing them in the wheelbarrows. The girls worked hard. Thank you everyone for your generous donations and for teaching your girls all about giving.

11 Page 11 Open Day Our very successful Open Day was held on 24 February. Our Junior School and Senior School girls did us proud as they led parents around our school. They are definitely our best ambassadors. Please note entrance assessment for new pupils for 2019 take place on 14th 17th March for Grade 0000 and Grade 000 and 19 March for Grade 00 and Grade 0. All enrolment forms need to be handed in ASAP. Congratulations Congratulations to Gariella (Grade 00) and Rafael Dalla Venezia (Doodlebugs) on the birth of their little Brother Alessandro on 24 February weighing 2.6kg. We wish the family well as they welcome home their new bundle of joy!

12 Valentines day with CBC Page 12 On Friday, 16 th February, our little girls were all dressed up in red, pink and white and very excited about having the CBC boys join them for a fun filled day on the playground! With great enthusiasm and a few little butterflies rumbling in their tummies, the girls anxiously awaited their arrival. It was a lovely day spent by all, with giggles, screams, and chatting filling the air. The boys and girls kept themselves very busy, running around from pillar to post, climbing on the jungle gyms and monkey bars, and racing eagerly around the small bike track. Our car definitely proved to be a favourite item amongst the boys! An action packed day, meeting up with siblings and making new friends. A day, which ended with the boys and girls exchanging a Valentine message and treat with each other!
