1 Kalamunda and Districts Hockey Club Newsletter ISSUE PRESIDENTS NOTE Newsletter two and the season is really heating up. There have been a few team and competition changes, most notably our women s teams are now in the Provisional and Metro grades, we ve merged our two 40 s teams into one and we ve seen the transfer of some experienced players from the 40 s division into the 50 s division. Tuesday training on the turf has been running for a few weeks now and players are getting fitter and their skills sharper. This year we have 9 senior teams (both women and men) which is great to see and 5 of them are playing at Hartfield Park this Saturday starting from 2pm. They d love your support. So on the eve of many teams first game, I would like to again wish all players a successful and fun year of hockey and I look forward to viewing some quality games throughout the season. 2 Page 2 KDHC PRE-SEASON CARNIVAL Thanks to the participation of players, committee members and Club supporters the pre-season carnival was another success. A hot day for all, it tested the muscles and lungs of many. This year marks our third carnival and it was bigger than the last. We had 6 new teams, 4 new clubs and of the 11 teams participating in the day there were 17 games played (or 34 if you count games per team). A big thanks to Brian for manning the bar, to the people sent to purchase more water for the canteen and to the young helpers in the canteen who supplied as much water as we could sell with a sausage and bun as well. In attendance were: - Charles Sullivan Director of Infrastructure Kalamunda Shire - Nathan Morton MLA Member for Forrestfield - John Heath Hockey WA Board member - Mike Love Our Project Manager Along with our Club representatives: - Dennis Wills Chairperson - Mark Oosterling - Richard Guthrie - David Meier - Mike Robinson - Amber Hill - Tricia Lovell The invited stakeholders gave an overview of the progress so far followed by general discussion as to the Club s next steps. We have plenty to do and Richard Guthrie has agreed to design a survey for our members to complete. The survey will be asking for your opinions and expertise. The Shire has appointed Craig McClelland as the Project Officer, who will be invited to our meeting next Tuesday at 6.30pm at the clubrooms. Funding has been directed to the shire through Dept Sport and Recreation and will be available in stages. As I said we have masses of work ahead of us over the next three years to see this transition through. Dennis Wills President

4 Page 4 PLAYER REGISTRATION Player registrations can be done online at WELCOME DONATION Nathan Morton, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Forrestfield has kindly donated $250 to the Club to purchase coaches planning boards. The season starts this week, please register now so that teams and fixtures can be confirmed before the first round. Payment details will be ed to you after registration. If you will only play a few games this season for Kalamunda you still need to register for insurance purposes - register online then discuss the arrangements with your team contact. TURF TRAINING MELIVILLE TURF All players attending turf training at the Melville Club turf need to pay $5 at each session for the use of the facilities. UMPIRING DUTIES This year the senior teams have a variety of umpiring duties where some teams will umpire their own grade, others another grade and then some their own grade each week. Please see the table below for your teams umpiring obligations. In order to promote these services we have included this section in the newsletter. If you are a member or associate of the club, run a business and wish for your services to be listed in the KDHC newsletter, can you please kalamundahockey@gmail.com. There is a small fee for having your business recorded, with all proceeds going to the club. Please note that this is not a substitute for Club Sponsorship as the Club values donations on a commercial basis that go to supporting the annual monetary requirements of the Club.
