2 Page 2 of 5 Football Update: With our first home game this round against Lyndale we hope to have a massive turnout to support the boys and hopefully come home with 3 good wins! We will be having our membership drive day and will be unveiling our membership packages that will appeal to all budgets! There will be Raffles and 1st goal kicker for the Seniors with some great prizes to win so make sure you get a ticket on the day! Live music will be on in the rooms so be sure to make it down to what will be a fantastic day for the club. We would like to thank all of our Volunteers Sponsors and training staff who make each and every game possible for the boys to be able to run out on a Saturday and provide a safe and enjoyable environment for every member. Netball Update: The 1st game of what is 3 rounds of grading. All players are aware that their positions and team allocations may change. This has been discussed with all players from the beginning of the year. Our first game into the season allowed the girls from both teams the opportunity to consolidate their learnings and put into practice some of the skills that we have been working on since the beginning of preseason. The girls who played in the second s team realised that their game needs more strategy to be able to outsmart their opponents. The girls that played in the lower section found their rhythm easily against the opposing team. Both teams played a different game against two very different skill level of players. Grading allows movement and provides the players opportunities to step up and show they are a thinking player. We have come together for some extra learnings, learning more along the lines of how a coach thinks and sees the game. This has been a huge focus during the season. We need tactics and strategies under our belt and we need to consolidate. Going forward there is still so much to learn and together with continued commitment and enthusiasm from everyone on board we will a recognisable challenge on the court. The season has just begun..."you learn more from failure than from success"

3 Page 3 of 5 Introducing 2017 Coaches Seniors Coach Terry Philippe. It is a pleasure to welcome Terry to our Club this year as Senior Coach. Terry has had an extensive football career, playing football at aged 15 with North Heidelberg DVFL, and then onto Collingwood U19s, Res & Seniors (playing 95 games short of 100). He then moved onto West Perth WAFL, to which a knee reconstruction saw him out of football. 3 years later he resumed playing with Daylesford in the Ballarat League 1984, he kicked the fastest 100 goals ever BFL (12.5 games). Interleague rep, and 108 goals in Played Hamden League with Camperdown interleague rep. He then turned his career to coaching at Rye MPNFL & several other clubs. Due to family commitments he Retired from football and has now resumed with CPL as senior coach 2017 some 25yrs later. Assistant Coach Trevor Woodford Trevor's arrival to the Den brings a wealth of football experience. Trevor has played senior football from the age of 17yr while he was enlisted in the Navy he represented the services for many years. He then joined the Rye football club where he continue to make himself a good reputation as both footballer and true clubman. Trevor decided to move a couple suburbs north to the Dromana football club. Trevor played in the premiership, represented the league & won the league goal kicking in that year a great achievement. Trevor's heart belonged to Rye and he soon returned the next season and he took up where he had left of for several more seasons. Business opportunities took him far north where he also secured a senior coaching position with Hervey Bay. Now Trevor has moved back south after a successful stint away, it s Fantastic to have secured his service at CPLNFC.

4 Page 4 of 5 Netball Coach Wendy Van Der Peet I feel that to know a little about me I have to share with you my pathway of how I became so involved with netball. I never played netball growing up outside of a grade 6 team in primary school. My love of netball started at the age of 28 after the birth of my first child. Not sure how to pass my time after working full time for many years I thought I should go to my local stadium in Croydon to see if they had any available positions for a novice netball player who knows nothing about the game. Luck had it as a team needed a seventh player. They didn't seem to mind that I knew nothing about the game as the team was made up of mums just wanting to get together once a week, enjoy some fitness activity and socialise with a coffee and chat after the game. Little did I know, that this would lead me to literally becoming consumed totally by the game. I started in the typical position of WD, seems to be the place to go when you have to learn the game, but unfortunately for me during 1st quarter in my 4th game I broke my ankle. I blame the WA for being in my area, but in hind sight I was probably in her space now knowing more about the game. After the plaster was off, my crutches thrown away and after some intense physio treatment I returned with a greater passion wanting to know more about this game. I tried another position. I played GK for a while, and struggled with the ruling of obstruction, contact and rebounding the unsuccessful shot. I was often out of court so it went back to the attacking team anyway. So I tried GA and I found out I could shoot. But I didn't want to go there, I wanted to defend and I was tall. Fast forward and soon I was playing 5 games a week, day time and a couple of nights. But, it was the umpiring that baffled me as it was so inconsistent and I struggled with the decisions. So, I decided to go down the path of becoming an umpire. I needed to have a greater understanding of this game if I wanted to play it well. Circumstance had it that after 4 years of playing I moved down to the Peninsula. I found the local association and joined a team. I became a badged umpire and played A grade, playing again day time and evenings, local, also driving to Mornington and Frankston for games. A few more injuries along the way with broken fingers, more ankle injuries and shoulder injuries but I loved this game. An opportunity came for me to coach an U13 team. Of course I can coach, I can play right? My passion for coaching started. I completed my OTC (Orientation to Coaching Course) which is now known as the Foundation level and with my newfound knowledge I lead my U13's to success coming from the bottom of the ladder to win the grand final. I loved coaching. Netball Victoria at this time introduced a new program offering coaching sessions to all schools across Victoria. I became what was known as a "Recommended Schools Coach for Netball Victoria". I did this for 10 years. I would attend as many seminars as I could get to, I would observe training sessions from other coaches and I continued to learn. But I needed more, I needed to give back to the community a little of how I learnt so I trained to become a "Netball Victoria Course Presenter", now renamed to a "Coach Developer". I could now teach coaches to become better coaches and learn to see the game from a different perspective. I completed my Development course and with this I started to coach at a higher level. I moved away from association coaching so I could learn more. Course Presenting and School Coaching took most of my time. I have coached State League Div. 1 players VNL, I coached player selections for ANL, I coached for schools specifically offering specialist sessions for the students who would be participating in the school championships and I also take specialist training sessions for clubs. Last year was my 1st year of being involved with the FNL in the Yarra Ranges. My position currently is a Director of Coaching for Maccabi (Jewish club) mentoring 19 coaches over all teams ranging from U9 - Open and now head coach for CPLFNL. I have started to build a strong team to represent Maccabi Ajax Netball Club in Israel for their 2021 games. I have achieved my Intermediate Level of coaching and are currently in the process of achieving my Advanced Level. You are never too late to start something new. Coaching is so rewarding. Message from the Social Committee: On behalf of the Social club I would like to thank everyone involved in last Saturday nights Frat night whether organising or just attending it was a fantastic night for the club and was enjoyed by all. Special mention to Nick Gage who did the bulk of the work organising the night! - Hutch
