Firstly I would like to thank Mrs Morris for supporting us at this event and hope she hasn't lost her voice! We were drawn in Pool A with St Andrews, Rowley Lane A and Golcar A. We had to play each team twice, once before lunch and once afterwards. Each match was 10 minutes which meant lots of running for everyone as the pitches were big. We started our first game against Golcar A very positively and it wasn't long before Brooke Mallinson opened the score with a lovely tap in, following an inch perfect cross from Oliver Castle. This was a real
6 cat and mouse game with each side having lots of chances to score. It wasn't long before our opposition had equalised but then their keeper came out of his area, so we were awarded a penalty. Oliver Castle made no mistake with a fearsome kick which gave their keeper no chance. Again it wasn't long before the score was level. Following some excellent defending, Oliver managed to bravely head us into the lead again only for the opposition to score twice just before the end of time, which meant we lost 4-3. Next we lost to a very organised Rowley Lane A before playing St Andrews. This turned into another extremely competitive encounter, the whole team contributed to some tremendous defending especially Malachi, Ben and Elliot who all showed immense courage by blocking powerful shots. As always Joe Lynn pulled off some magnificent saves and we managed a quick break away enabling Oliver to score, however despite our best efforts we ended up losing 2-1. I was really proud of our team for ensuring that we 'lived the values'. During lunch our coach 'Jack' arrived and inspired us to go out with a new formation, along with a team photo with Huddersfield Town legend 'Andy Booth'. Unfortunately we lost the remaining games however the scores didn't accurately reflect the determination and effort of our whole team, exemplified by the amount of running Alfie Burrows put in on the wing against much bigger boys and Malachi Fullwood who was asked to play out of his natural position of defender on several occasions so as to give Alfie a rest. It was difficult to choose a player of the tournament because everyone really gave 100% but both myself and Jack were so impressed by the defending skills of Elliot Noble we both felt he deserved this recognition. Team: Oliver Castle (c), Ben Lodge, Malachi Fullwood, Joe Lynn, Elliot Noble, Brooke Mallinson, Alfie Burrows Results Golcar A 4-3 Helme Rowley Lane A 4-0 Helme St Andrews 2-1 Helme Golcar A 5-1 Helme Rowley Lane A 5-1 Helme St Andrews 7-1 Helme
