1 Tom Cavalhes Orgnally from Montpeller n France, Tom came to Ashbourne to study Maths, Further Maths and Economcs n one year. He has an A*AA offer from Kng s College London to read Management. He wants to have hs own busness and already does some mportng and exportng. Tom had a lttle home tutorng last year but otherwse has studed the A Levels n ther entrety n one year. I have had an amazng experence here, especally from my tutors, who show a dfferent approach to each ndvdual student. Tom has also commented on the help that he was gven by staff, especally Lee Krby, the Drector of Studes, wth the unversty applcaton process. Tom has sad, t s thanks to Lee s encouragement and telephone calls, that he has hs offer from Kng s. Frendshp s an mportant aspect of student lfe at Ashbourne. Tom has also ponted out that as long as you show respect to your colleagues, everyone at Ashbourne s accepted, no matter what ther appearance, creed or background. Theo Kemp Theo took hs AS at Kng s College School, and came to Ashbourne to read Bology, Chemstry and Psychology. He only ganed Cs and Ds at AS frst tme round, so he has done these subjects from a scratch n a year, n order to meet hs offer from the Bology department at Leeds (AAA). Theo says that t was defntely the rght decson to come to Ashbourne: the move helped me to grow up and learn new thngs As well as recevng excellent tuton, he has commented on the effcent and slck help that he receved for hs unversty applcaton from the Deputy Drector of Studes, Rob Kocho. Guy Monnngton profles of one-year students Ashbourne s one-year A-level courses lead to excellent grades and unversty placements through hard work, ndvdual attenton and an emphass on exam technque. These profles summarse our students experences and the reasons for ther success Guy had brefly attended Brghton, readng Cvl Engneerng, before comng to Ashbourne to mprove hs grades n order to get nto a more hghly ranked unversty. He has an offer to read Computer Scence at Kng s (AAB). Hs orgnal grades were BBC at Bedford School and he has changed subjects (retakng Maths and addng Italan to hs orgnal French A Level). Guy says that he has concentrated much more ths year and the teachng has been excellent. I do lke the fact that we do mocks every half term. That was very good for me I feel so much more confdent ths tme round. He also commented on how hs tutor Ruch helped hm wth hs unversty applcaton, especally

2 makng sure that he made the rght decsons, and prepared hm well wth codng exercses that helped hm to make a strong applcaton for computng. MH MH studed Bology and Chemstry n one year wth us, as well as takng the A2 n Maths. She had obtaned a B and a C n the AS subjects frst tme round from another ndependent sxth form college, and she s amng to meet her offers of ABB from Warwck and AAA from St George s n order to read Bomedcal scence. She told us that she has had a really good experence all the teachers are very helpful. It s a very good learnng envronment you re not pushed down f you have a queston or haven t understood anythng She also remarked how her teacher Amy was very helpful wth her unversty applcaton and s such a good teacher; never lets you down and always gves good notes. Generally, she has found Ashbourne to be very frendly and enjoyable: If I could go back, I would probably have come to ths college ntally (rather than havng to retake). Lucas Frayssnet Lke Tom Cavalhes, Lucas s from Montpeller. He was lookng for a drecton after completng hs French Bacc., n whch he scored 14/20. He came to Ashbourne to study Maths, Further Maths and French n one year and has been gven an offer from Kng s College (A*AA) to read Management. Havng done a seres of nternshps, he s keen on retal and s nterested n openng supermarkets when he completes hs educaton. So the degree from Kng s should be very useful! Lucas lkes the approach to teachng at Ashbourne, n whch there are 5-10 people n a class a personal mentorng wth good staff and envronment, everythng and excellent help wth the unversty applcaton process from the Prncpal, Mke Krby. As Lucas puts t, I made myself work as never before; t s the frst tme n my lfe that I ve worked really hard. Socally also ths was one of hs best years n school: I really enjoyed t Even f I don t meet my choces, I wll be satsfed wth what I have accomplshed ths year a new thng for me AA AA came to Ashbourne from Marbella va Ampleforth College and s retakng Maths and Physcs. He has commented on how he has covered all the materal n half the tme, and feels really well-prepared. In relaton to Maths C4, for example, he sad that Mss Rupnder explaned thngs really well, thngs I ddn t get last year. He enjoyed the small class szes, n hs case as low as 3 students. He was happy that he receved lots of homework and worked hard. He had good help from Mke wth the edtng of hs personal statement and support wth explanng to unverstes about hs prevous grades and new applcaton. As a consequence, he has an offer from Warwck to read Engneerng (AAB), whch, he hopes, could lead to a career n the energy sector. He enjoyed the dversty of Ashbourne and made good frendshps.

3 Isabelle Rawley Isabelle studed Hstory of Art and Phlosophy plus retakes of two Bology papers. She came from Forest School, where she ganed CCD n Chemstry, Bology and Phlosophy. Isabelle has sad that The teachng here has got me on track for revson and the mocks have been really helpful. She also added that her tutor Wll Stockland was really helpful wth the personal statement and advce as to where to go, She s very much hopng that she wll meet her offer from Brstol Unversty to read Hstory of Art (condtonal on AAB). Her back-up s Ednburgh, whch gave her an offer condtonal on grades ABB. As Isabelle put t, I love my subject and she s very keen eventually to use her vsual sklls n a professonal capacty, perhaps n a career such as advertsng. Motar Mohden Motar studed Physcs, Maths and Further Maths wth us. He had been home-schooled n Cape Town n South Afrca, where he dd moderately n the CIE. Mke Krby, our Prncpal, helped hm wth hs unversty applcaton, and he ganed an uncondtonal offer from Kng s to read Theoretcal Physcs. Above all, however, Motar s pleased wth the academc progress that he made whle at Ashbourne. As he has sad, a 1-year programme s very strenuous, wth lots of work, but he got the rght attenton and t all seems to have pad off! Motar also has told us that he made strong frendshps at Ashbourne, especally wth French members of our school, and he also had the company of one of hs frends from South Afrca. Munkran Deo Munkran came to us from a state school n East London n order to retake Bology and Chemstry n one year, together wth Maths A2. She s takng a gap year but wll apply next year for dentstry and law. Obvously, Ashbourne wll help her to make a strong applcaton n the autumn. In the meantme Munkran has sad that comng to Ashbourne was the best choce that I ve made n terms of school teachers are so supportve, nterested, they want you to do well, they know what they have to do and how to do t. She also commented on the really nce people; the atmosphere s very postve and everybody really knd; I mmedately ntegrated nto the group. Zubar Bayat Zubar came to us after havng underperformed n the CIEs [Bs] n Cape Town, where he was homeschooled. He has been takng Maths, Further Maths and Physcs n one year, and has had an offer from Bath for Aeospace Engneerng (A*AA). Zubar has commented on the dfferent teachng styles that he has experenced at Ashbourne, whch he felt were partcularly helpful for Maths, as well as the help that he receved from the Prncpal Mke Krby wth hs UCAS applcaton. He already had a frend from Cape Town at Ashbourne but he has made many new frends durng hs year at the College.

4 Cem Blgn Cem had obtaned a C n Photography at Mllfeld School, as well as Ds n Busness and Meda. At Ashbourne he has been redong Photography A2, n addton to takng an exam n Turksh. He has offers to read Marketng Management at the Unversty of Westmnster and from Brkbeck. Cem says that he has met really nce people at Ashbourne, above all hs photography teacher Joanna, who has motvated hm wthout puttng undue pressure. In short, I ve really enjoyed Ashbourne. Heronymus Kothbauer Heronymus s from Venna and havng done well n the Austran system wth the excepton of Maths, he came to Ashbourne to take a 1- year A Level n Maths. Exeter Unversty has offered hm a place on ther Physcs course provded he gets a B n Maths. He has had a very good experence wth Ashbourne s Maths Department, and sad that hs tutor Abdul was a great teacher. He hopes that he wll get an A. Olamde Duyle Olamde came to us from Chobham Academy, where she had taken AS Maths, Hstory, Chemstry and Psychology (AABB). At Ashbourne she retook one module n Hstory and carred on wth A2 Maths, Hstory and Psychology. She commented on the helpful teachers, to whom you could go back for extra help. Her tutor, Wll, gave her lots of support wth her UCAS applcaton, for example, wth the extra personal statement requred by the Unversty of Warwck. She has receved offers for Economcs from UCL, Warwck and Durham (all A*AA). Ada Bruzzches Ada came to us wth excellent grades (8.5) from the Convtto Nazonale n Rome, keen to take A Levels n French, Hstory, Poltcs and Italan n one year. She mmedately mpressed us wth her maturty and ntellectual depth and subsequently receved an offer (AAA) from Unversty College London to read Poltcs and East European Studes. Ada showed herself to be a great learner and rapdly developed both her academc sklls and her wrtng n Englsh. As she has put t, dong everythng n one year was qute challengng but the school motvated me and I always wanted to do the work! Luke Hammett Luke was 19 years old when he arrved at Ashbourne, havng prevously acheved an A* n Flm, a B n Phlosophy and a C n Psychology at another school. He mpressed us from the outset wth hs range of lterary and cultural nterests, and ganed an A* n Englsh Lterature A Level n hs year at Ashbourne. He s now studyng Phlosophy at the Unversty of Sussex. Emly Hong Emly acheved excellent GCSES and then underperformed at AS n her prevous school, ganng a D for Desgn and Technology, a C for Phlosophy and a C for Englsh Lterature. At Ashbourne she acheved an A n Hstory of Art, a B n Englsh Lterature and a B n Flm Studes. She s now studyng Marketng Management at the Unversty of Lancaster.

5 17 Old Court Place, Kensngton, London W8 4PL Unted Kngdom +44(0) Mcha Horgan Mcha came to Ashbourne at the age of 19, havng dslked the regmented atmosphere n hs prevous school. He acheved an A for French and a B for Englsh Lterature. Mcha s now readng Amercan Lterature wth Creatve Wrtng at Unversty of East Angla. Benedct Tso A talented student, Benedct had only acheved a D for Mathematcs, an E for Economcs and a C for Musc n hs prevous school. At Ashbourne Benedct mproved hs Mathematcs grade to a B and he studed Englsh Lterature n a year, startng from scratch, achevng an A*. Ths set hm up perfectly for readng Englsh at Kng s College, London. Sara Parnell Havng been schooled abroad, Sara spent her frst year n the UK at Ashbourne, achevng an A n German, a B n Psychology and a B n Fne Art. Sara had orgnally ntended to study medcne but eventually decded to pursue a career n the arts. Umar Uddn Umar took hs A Levels at another school n London and joned Ashbourne for a one-year course. He mproved hs grades n Englsh from a B to an A, n Chemstry from a D to a B and n Bology from a C to an A. Umar s now studyng Medcne at Oman Medcal College. Federco Mlana Federco came to Ashbourne for a specfc but not untypcal reason. An able student, he had taken the IB at another school n London but the subsdary level mathematcs that he had taken there was not suffcent for hs chosen unversty course. At Ashbourne he took Mathematcs n one year and acheved an A. Matthew MacFarlane Matthew came to us from a famous publc school n the North of England. In hs year at Ashbourne he mproved hs Mathematcs grade from a C to an A and hs Physcs grade from a C to a B. He s now studyng Physcs at the Unversty of Brstol. Ben Dyson Ben studed at a top London school before mprovng hs Mathematcs grade from a D to an A n hs year at Ashbourne. Hs famly s delghted wth hs performance at Ashbourne (hs mother has already wrtten a google revew) and felt that the College offered Ben the secure envronment that he needed to fulfl hs potental. He s currently studyng for an Internatonal Relatons/Poltcs degree at the Unversty of Vrgna.
