3 International Toast An Intenational Toast was proposed to the Rotary Club of Lecco Italy. This is the home club of our exchange student guest Francesca. vv President s Opening Remarks President Jason welcomed everyone to the meeting. A special welcome was extended to all of the guests present. President Jason then gave us a quote from one of his favourite people, Nigella Lawson. You cannot truly say you live well, unless you eat well. Secretary s Report John Fitzgibbon The annual Meringur Pioneer Day will be held Sunday 2nd October. This activity will be in lieu of Meeting There will not be a formal meeting Tuesday 4th at the Workingmans Club. We will be involved in the catering for approximately 400 people at the village. A roster has been placed on the tables for all members who are attending. A few reminders: Garage Sale 8th October. Mel Schmidt Panels, Benetook Ave. Hat Day. 11th October. Meeting scheduled for 18th October will be held at the Wooden Door, Irymple, at the usual time. Bowel Scan. Max Fry, the State Coordinator for the Bowel Scan program, told the Secretary that the Irymple Rotary Club sold and distributed more Bowel Scan kits than any other organisation in Victoria. Approx. 860 kits were sold resulting in 79 positive results. That is a relatively high percentage, but at least the results allowed those people to get the required treatment. Special thanks to the distributors and organiser, Gary Pretty, Sue Hedley, John Harrison, Rob Metcalf, Bob Shurey. Chippa Kolpin has had a health scare. He is in hospital having tests for a heart scare. It appears that the heart is not the problem, it is the concoction of drugs that he must take after his bypass surgery. More tests to follow. Jim Kane has had to be admitted to hospital. We are not sure of the nature of the problem as yet, but will keep in touch and follow up. 3

4 Members Reports Rini Op t Hoog reminded the members that the Red Cliffs Players production of the play Dimboola will be held 11th November at the Cardross Hall. The play is based around a Wedding Breakfast,so, everyone bring a present for the night. Michael Jobe informed the meeting of the results of the Pedometer Challenge that was held a few months ago. Thanks to all who participated with Lynne Dixon and Jennifer Gadsden each scoring a total of approx 325,000 steps. Wendy Simpson reminded the meeting of Hat Day. Our celebratiojn of Hat Day is to be held at our meeting on 11th October. Everyone is encouraged to wear a hat that has some special significance to you. You may even be selected to give a short Show & Tell presentation. 4 Vince Congiusta spoke about two items. Vegas Night, please consider helping for the catering. Contact Effie or Julie if you are able to assist. Garage Sale. The shed is nearly full with items for sale. Thanks to the 17 people who helped clean the SCHS building last Friday. We were able to get the job done quickly and have a bit of fun. SCHS allowed the club to charge them for the clean up. So we go to the Garage Sale with approx. $2400 already in the kitty. In lieu of no formal meeting next Tuesday, we will have an informal night to put a price on all of the items for sale.

5 Sergeant-at-Arms Bob Simpson Our Inspector-Sergeant attacked our wallets with his usual glee. Thanks for your great work Bob. Guest Speaker Deb Bogenhuber Deb spoke to the meeting of the special need of Building Community through Food. This project has special meaning to the Burundian Community. Deb outlined the processes involved in the setting up of the project and how important it is for these communities to have access to fresh foods that are natural to their diets. The eventual aim is to grow an abundance of food and sell the excess at the local farmers market. There is a social aspect to this as well - just see below. Thanks for the presentation Deb, and our best wishes for the success of the project. 5

Max would like all members to get those names to him ASAP, so that a meeting of the prospective members could be arranged.
