1 ROTARY CLUB OF BARRIE-KEMPENFELT May 4, 2011 Musical Performance by Students from St. Joan of Arc High School Maria Gallo, who is a teacher at St. Joan of Arc school in Barrie, introduced the club and our family members to three incredible performers. The three students are performing Phantom of the Opera with performances on June 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th. The students took turns impressing everyone with professional quality renditions of Think of Me, Music of the Night and That s all I ask of you. Speakers Maria Gallo & the St. Joan of Arc School Performers The school is currently fundraising for this performance and would invite any interested people to support their group and purchase tickets to the performances. 3 Announcements 3 Pennies for Polio Taste the World Raised just under $900, excellent job by all! Alexa mentioned that all items for the auctions should be donated by the end of this work week so that they can be wrapped and ready for the event. If that is not possible, please Alexa to coordinate how she will receive the items ASAP. Thanks! Heather said that there are about 50 tickets left to be sold. Please and speak to contacts! Beaverfest Kids Fishing Day Mike Campbell President Mike announced that Steve Periard has managed to arrange insurance for the million dollar beaver for this year s Beaverfest. There is a sponsorship opportunity for this, which would give the sponsor naming rights and exposure on Rock 95, Kool FM and the A Channel, to name a few. Speak with Mark Campbell for more details. Craig announced that since we re two months away, it is time to start thinking about items we can donate for the goodie bags for the kids. George Dangerfield has been able to secure 1500 mars chocolate bars! Craig is looking for the following types of items: colouring books, crayons, granola bars, water, juice boxes, stickers, pencil/erasers, sunscreen, lip balm, boxes of raisins, mini bags of chips, tooth brush/tooth paste. Another idea is to have gift cards where kids eat free or for ½ price for places like: Boston Pizza, McDonalds, Swiss Chalet, Subway, Dairy Queen, Baskin & Robins. His daughter Emma tried out and made The Sharks rep hockey team. Congratulations Emma! President Mike gave her a rare opportunity to tell everyone about her new business venture, but fined her immediately afterward! It was brought to everyone s attention that Johnny was selected to be the voice of their new radio commercial. Fined for showing up over 20 minutes late to a meeting he organized 4 Members of Rotary Snap Magazine (Mark Campbell, Mike Kinsey, Sean Manias and John Rockbrune). The son of our newest member Joel Lightheart, was also in this magazine and was given $2 4 Upcoming Speakers Marilyn Hanson Rotary Assistant Governor (May 11) Mark GSE Team (May 18) Monique Vaillancourt Classification Speech (May 25) Upcoming Events Krista Lariviere Mark Campbell Heather Forde Joe Givens her husband enjoyed game 7 of a Canucks game while she stayed home and watched the kids she acknowledged that he made it up to her but she sat down before any more details were revealed Mark was called up after pictures were found of his daughter hugging a goat. He was asked if this was an effort on his part to try and avoid paying for horse riding. At least she wasn t riding a goat Huronia Business Times won an award for best niche market publication in North America Justin Givens had a tie on for the meeting and it was pointed out that Joe never wears a tie. Joe mentioned that his son s team walloped the Rockbrune Brothers hockey team Taste the World (May 14, 2011) Rotary International Conference (May 21 st 25 th 2011) George Dangerfield His wife won an award for being one of the smartest women in Canada. The Four-Way Test Some people didn t think that was possible since she married George! Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER UNDERSTANDING? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
