Children ages 4 and up are invited to enjoy a day of Holiday fun! Kids will create their own snowglobe keepsake, while enjoying lunch, decorating cookies, and making their own Christmas cards. Cost for all activities, food, & supervision is $25 per child + tax. When I was nine years old in 1972, my family moved to the Shoals area and joined Turtle Point. I spent almost every day of each summer with many of our current members involved in the many activities the Club offered. There have been many occasions when a lot of us have reminisced about those times while watching our own children enjoy the Club. It is hard to believe forty one years later, I am beginning my term as your Club president. I would first like to thank Charles Crow for his leadership as President these past two years. He worked tirelessly with the board of governors, and our Club is a better place due to his efforts. Please take the time to thank Charles for his dedication and service to Turtle Point. Even though we have made great strides over the past several years, we still face many challenges. In years past, Turtle Point has been the focus of social activity in our area. Today, we have far more competition for families to spend their leisure time and expendable income. We must continue to improve our programs to attract new members. We have a great facility and must create an environment that will make people want to join and spend more time at the Club. Currently, we have good attendance at Club activities, but during our 50th anniversary year we had several Club activities where the Club was at maximum capacity. Hopefully going forward we can recapture that enthusiasm, and with everyone s help in recruiting new members, we can make our Club the place to be. We have great employees who strive to make your experience at Turtle Point the very best. We have a top notch General Manager in Bill Colloredo, and he wants to hear from you not only on areas of improvement, but also on your positive experiences. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

2 TENNIS NEWS MIKE S GOLDEN NUGGET I have often said that through tennis I can impact lives. I truly believe this and is what kind of keeps me going day to day. Mike Claiborne USPTA Tennis Professional MEN S LEAGUE IMPROVED Well, it is hard to believe another year has gone by. I mean that literally as this April will make twenty years for me here at Turtle Point. The year started off great because I found a new professional in Mark Johnson who took over for Zack Miskel. Believe me, it is not easy to find a top notch pro to move here from somewhere else. Mark is a huge asset and just built a new house in Killen. Another highlight was the Member-Guest tournament held in May. We kicked off the event with a great party, and everyone had a great time. Our signature program has become Cardio Tennis. Everyone comes as their schedule allows, and all levels of play can participate on the same court. This is unique to tennis and creates a lively and energetic atmosphere. Additionally, our lesson program, leagues, junior program and mixers are well attended. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year! MENS LEAGUE CHAMPIONS Getting men out to the club to play tennis on a regular basis is always a challenge. This Fall we experienced an increase in participation and I feel like we are on the right track going forward. The Fall Men s League winners are Don Holmes and David Bachofer. Their names will be the first on our new plaque that will stay in the shop. GUEST FEE INCREASE Our guest fee will increase to $10 for adults effective January 1, A few weeks ago, I found out on a Tuesday that a very close friend s son had died suddenly. I was on a plane the next day to attend the funeral on Thursday. We flew into Houston and decided to stay the night in Clear Lake which is where I used to work. It has probably been 10 years since we have been back in the area and 20 years since I worked at my old club. Thursday morning, Peggy, Phil, and I went for a jog near our old neighborhood and first home. Our jog took us by Bay Oaks Country Club. I knew of this club but had only actually seen the club a few times. I decided to jog over to the shop for a closer look. A pro was coming off the court after a lesson, and I asked who the Director was. Someone I did not know. Peggy came over and asked about some ladies playing on the court. Is it possible we know someone after all these years? Finally, I told the pro I used to work in the area and my name is Mike. Before I could finish he said, You are Mike Claiborne, right. I was shocked. He immediately gave me a hug, and said I was his favorite tennis pro of all time. He said, Don t you remember me, my name is Seth, and you taught me when I was years old. He then said I changed his life and hugged me again. After some reflection, I did remember teaching Seth, and now I see him literally 20 years later. He is an assistant pro at the club. We talked for a while, and then we continued our jog. A few minutes later Seth pulls up in his car and takes a picture of me with his phone. I have a hard time explaining all this now. We are there for such a tragic occasion, and then a golden nugget from God falls into my lap. I will have this with me forever, and now I know through tennis I can make a difference. If you have any questions, please ask Les, Paul or Pam. CHRISTMAS ALTERNATE SHOT Saturday, December 14th, we will have a Two Person Alternate Shot Event. Pick your own partner and play in this fun event. We will start at 9:30 (weather permitting). Both players will tee-off on each hole and pick the best tee-shot. From there, you will play alternate shot into the hole. Play should move quickly. We plan on having lunch in the new Fairway Lounge around 12:45. Entry fee is $28 which includes prizes and a soup and sandwich lunch. Cart fee extra. Sign up board posted in the hallway or call the Golf Shop. GUEST FEE DISCOUNT CARD In February, the Golf Shop will be selling a Guest Fee Discount card. The card will be $500 and it will allow you to bring ten guests anytime during the year. The card will expire on December 31, You may use the card throughout the year bringing an individual guest out or you may use it a few guests at a time. Cards will not be sold after February. This gives you a $250 discount over our regular in-season guest fee of $75. THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE CART FEE. Call the Golf Shop for more information. CONGRATULATIONS! PARTY BRIDGE Congratulations to Mr. Eli Cockrum, your new Sous Chef. Eli has been on staff and training under Chef Mark for over 2 years. He recently graduated UNA with his culinary degree and is working towards becoming an Executive Chef. We have so much to offer you and your relatives who are visiting or your children on holiday break.
