2 MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT Becky Mauldin Club President As we move into 2017 many improvements have been made that will enhance every family's experience at the club. It is amazing to think that the club that we enjoy and have become to expect everyday is considered a top club in the region. It is hard to find a club that has a facility like ours; not only with golf and tennis, but also a marina. Our golf course is recognized as a signature golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones which qualifies us to be part of the Robert Trent Jones Society. Robert Trent Jones was designing golf courses abroad at the same time he was designing Turtle Point! By 1974 Robert Trent Jones had become a household name. When Apollo 14 landed on the moon, Alan Shepard shot a golf ball after landing and the comment was made by Walter Cronkite, maybe one day there will be a Robert Trent Jones golf course on the moon for Alan to play on". We have much to be proud of at our club so let's share it with others and all try to get new members this year. TENNIS NEWS Mike Claiborne USPTA Tennis Professional NEW PROGRAM MIXED DOUBLES NIGHT I am extremely excited about the potential of this new program for our members. We have really struggled to get men out on a regular basis on Tuesday evenings. I think mixed doubles will be fun and exciting. Additionally, coming out with your spouse for a fun night of tennis and exercise should be well received. Everyone will mix and match with different partners. Kicking off Tuesday evening, March 14th at 6 p.m. I have gone through some names and have completed a list of 60 couples. Everyone will be contacted prior to our first evening of play. PEGGY BACK ON BOARD Peggy and I have been here 23 years now. Back in the day it was just she and I trying to launch a program here at Turtle Point. Peggy just quit her full time job as the Wellness Coordinator at Helen Keller Hospital and will be back with me fully invested in tennis. Someone like Peggy with years and years of experience can only benefit our program. TENNIS APPRENTICE This will be our 3rd round being offered for this program with 45 people having attended previously. Wow, what an exciting activity offered for anyone wanting to learn the great sport of tennis. It is so much fun to start with a large group, meet new people and have someone to play with. Details: 6 weeks starting on Monday, April 3rd at 6:30 p.m. $99 covers entire program Each participant receives a new racket First year of USTA dues are paid Call for more information. Note: This is a USTA program offered for our area. BOWLING FOR A BENEFIT Big Brother Big Sisters is a worthy charity that needs our help. Their annual bowling fundraiser is March 10th and 11th. I will be trying to set a group out on Saturday the 11th, somewhere in the 4 p.m range. Be looking for a contact from me and come out and help me raise money for a worthy cause. Plus, we will have a lot of fun! SPRING JUNIOR PROGRAM The 7 week spring program will kick off the week of March 6th. Classes are being offered for all ages. Detailed flyers will be mailed in early February. LADIES LEAGUE The first week of ladies league will be Thursday morning March 2nd at 9 a.m. League will run for approximately ten weeks. The cost for the entire league is just $30. I will be texting and calling everyone to secure sign ups. TPYCC TENNIS (256) e: turtlepointtennis@yahoo.com w: turtlepointtennis.usptapro.com

4 Deborah Hornbuckle Director of Food & Beverage FOOD & BEVERAGE 2016 Saw many changes here at Turtle Point. As we settle in to the start of 2017, my goal is to continue the excitement. Our 2017 Event Calendar is ready. Please take a minute to look at what s coming up. Our most successful events are when members contact friends and get a group together. Friends, Food, and Fun make memories. Please make your reservations for the upcoming events. Our special Valentine s Dinner will be on February 11th. Is Lady Luck always on your side? Then get your reservation in for the Blackjack Tournament on February 18th. Commodore s Ball will be March 11th. Remember this is open to all members. Do you have an idea for a fun event? Your Entertainment Committee would love to hear about it. Who knows, it may just start a new tradition. CATERING CORNER A New Year! First of all, I would like to thank each of you who chose to show off your club in Several folks that I chatted with were very happy to be a guest at the Club. This year let s do it again. Start planning now for that special event or office meeting. F E B R U A RY Wine of the Month 2014 BIALE BLACK CHICKEN Napa Valley Zinfandel The nose is full of blackberries, vibrant black cherry, dried berries, maple, brown, and black spices, cinnamon and gingerbread. The entry is soft and gives way to supple round tannins with delectable center and persistence of fruit. THE STORY Hey Aldo, when you come by on Friday, bring me a couple pounds of walnuts, some fruit and vegetables, two dozen eggs, and a black chicken. Althea Caperton Catering & Special Event Coordinator althac@tpycc.org Gather the family, friends and bring them to the most breath taking sunset view on Lake Wilson. Place your dinner order, get a refreshing cocktail and watch the sun go down. I m looking forward to seeing you around the club in Remember big or small occasion, give Ms. Altha a call. An thus went the one of the hundreds of phone orders to the Baile homestead via the old shared party line phone service in Napa. Back in the 1940 s, Aldo Biale and his mother Christina ran a small farm and vineyard with hundreds of white leghorn chickens. A black chicken became the code name for a jug of ALdo s private Zinfandel because people with an interest in other peoples business might be listening in on the party line phone. An enterprising and teenaged Aldo in post Great Depression Napa had figured out that he could make some extra bucks by discreetly selling his homemade wine that he had hidden in the family barn to friends and acquaintences also know as the chicken coop cognoscente. Since its official (and fully legal) debut in 2000, the wine itself, which is sourced primarily from the Biale estate vineyards in Napa s Oak Knoll District, has achieved must-have Zinfandel status with its captivating crowd-pleasing style, and numerous accolades from national press and sommeliers. CLUB HOUSE HOURS *All orders must be in at least 1/2 hour before closing. TUESDAY 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. (No Lunch or Dinner Service) WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. FRIDAY/SATURDAY 8 a.m p.m. SUNDAY 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. (No Dinner Service)

POINT S EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Natalie Rikard Hello everyone, my name is Natalie Rikard and I am so excited to join the Turtle Point team! I am beyond humbled to be able to have this opportunity and I cannot wait to learn and grow here. I grew up in Leighton, AL and attended Kindergarten through 12th Grade at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence, AL. After high school I attended college at The University of North Alabama from the Fall of 2012 until the Summer of 2016, and graduated with my Bachelor s degree in Business Administration with a focus in Human Resource Management. During my time at UNA, I realized that I wanted to do something with my life that involved the business world. I have always loved interacting with people and I knew I wanted to make a positive impact wherever I decided to go. I have always loved the Shoals area and I am very happy to get to be a part of the Turtle Point family! CONGRATULATIONS PARADE OF LIGHTS WINNER A big Congratulations goes out to the big winner, Grover Johnson, he won the best decorated boat of the Parade of Lights, December 10, 2016!

6 CLUBHOUSE NEWS & EVENTS FROM THE MANAGER Mark Grisham General Manager We had a very busy 10 days of shutdown this January and I feel that the projects we tackled were very well received and will help the appearance and functionality of the club for years to come. Some of these projects such as the new window treatments, flooring in the Ladies restroom upstairs, and Men s Locker Room painting #1214 will be easily seen, while others such as new HVAC for upstairs and new programmable thermostats throughout the clubhouse aren t as visible, but will create a much better and cost effective operation for years to come. As 2017 kicks off I am very excited about all of the opportunities we will have this year to create the most enjoyable and welcoming club in the Southeast. Having committed to making this happen I will need to enlist the help and support of all our members to help us reach this goal. While it is almost impossible for all of us to agree on some things such as steak or fish for dinner or political candidates it is easy for all of us to agree that positioning Turtle Point for success over the next 50 years is extremely important. To begin this process we need to set a specific vision of what the club is and what it is going to be and then set benchmarks on how to go in that direction. These benchmarks can take the form of additional or new facilities, additional amenities, and new or upgraded events. Whatever the benchmarks are they need to achieve 2 simple things: 1) Create an exclusive and comfortable environment with service as the focus 2) Attract new members and retain current members. Membership is the lifeline of any club and current members are always the best form of marketing to attract the next generation of members. My goal in 2017 is to create an environment that you are proud to bring guests and invite them to join. Tricia Mayes and I are always at your disposal to talk and tour anyone that you feel would be great additions to your club so please don t hesitate to call.
