When you see these new members, please introduce yourselves Sunday The practice facilities and welcome them to the club. and golf course will re-open to If you haven t yet experienced the dining room for both lunch and dinmembers at approximately 1:00 ner, you should. My family likes both equally. Mary Cameron is especially enpm. joying reconnecting with members who she doesn t see on a regular basis. It We would love to have as is also wonderful to see folks visiting from table to table and others switching many volunteers and spectators to larger tables to eat and catch up with old friends and new acquaintances. as possible during the weekend. This is what Mimosa s about. Most of the players will be college The club needs many things, but right now the most pressing is addigolfers. Some of them will reach tional members. In the last two months the Board has approved the applicathe PGA and LPGA tour. You can tion of twenty-two (22) new members in various classes and had six members say you saw them at Mimosa Hills upgrade their class. Since the last Board meeting we have received the applifirst. cations from five (5) new members and one (1) upgrade that I am aware of. Let's make this a great When I look at these, I notice that most, if not all, of the new local members event for Mimosa Hills and Mor- joined after they were personally contacted by three (3) or four (4) of our curganton, NC rent members who reached out to a friend, acquaintance, co-worker, or neighbor. It doesn t take much. Reach out to our former members and encourage them to rejoin, especially those that play as a guest on a regular basis and in virtually every open event. Don t limit yourself to just male golfers as there are many women and wives who play also and many might like to know about our Ladies Association and join them to play every week. There are many with children who might like to join as we have the only certified The Frank Bowers Junior PGA golf professionals in Burke County and are working hard to build a very Club Championship will be held strong and active Junior program. Every member goes out to dinner and usuaugust 11th and 12th. Tee times ally with friends. I see you all over town. Use the club on these outings, when will begin at 9:30 am each morn- you can, and encourage your friends to join. The club is also a great place for business lunches and is equipped with Wi-Fi. ing. Cost is $25.00 per player. Pitching membership is not a hard sell. It is more a matter of making Open to all Mimosa Hills Golf people aware and answering their questions. If every member recruited just Members. Boys and Girls under one (1) Social member, we would basically see the deficits we face every year go away. Just think what could happen in adding back needed services if the age of 18. we pick up a few golfers, and they are out there, along the way. Frank Bowers Junior Club Championship

W E ARE LISTENING! Thank you for your comments about the food and beverage programs. Your suggestions have resulted in the following changes. Wi-Fi is available in the dining areas of the clubhouse as is background music. Some menu items are being eliminated and some are being added. For example, some of our ladies have suggested lighter lunch offerings so things like soup and half a sandwich will now be choices. Other menu changes are listed below and will start August 1. One of the most requested changes was to have Sunday buffets so there are two scheduled for August 3 and 17. The cost of the buffets will be $11.95 for adults with the menu listed on page 9. We ask that you make reservations, if possible, for the buffets by calling or reservations to btoney@mimosahills.net. As per requests, we will offer corkage fees of $7.00 per bottle for those that wish to bring their own wine in the dining room starting August 1. ******** PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGING OF TIMES FOR THE DINING ROOM STARTING AU- GUST 1. Food and Beverage Chairman by Dick Peck Starting August 2, the dining room will be open Saturdays from 11:30 until 5:00. The weekly note from Judy about events at the club will also list dining specials, both for lunch and dinner. Check for your favorite meals. We are trying to cater to you, our members. Bring a friend to dine and enjoy a view of the beautiful surroundings! As we near the end of summer, food service at the pool will stop on Monday, August 25, the first day of public school. THERE WILL BE FOOD SERVICE AT THE POOL DURING LABOR DAY WEEKEND, the last days our pool will be open this season. We are listening to what you are saying. Thank you and keep coming. 4 Letter from the Treasurer by Gary Julien June was the ninth month of our financial (fiscal) year which runs from October thru September. We continue to operate very close to budget, within $3,000 for the year, even though our membership dues revenue is down $38,000. Being this close to budget is directly the result of Non-Member Greens Fees and Carts exceeding budget by $36,000 and our staff operating within their reduced department budgets. In June we bettered the budget by $800. As we prepare our budget for the coming fiscal year, the need for additional members becomes even more evident. There are many golf course projects that should be done to maintain and enhance our golf course. The clubhouse also needs significant maintenance projects. Please review your list of friends and encourage them to join our club, either as full members, if they play golf, or social members, as everyone eats. Speaking of eating, Bernice and her staff are doing an excellent job of revitalizing our food and beverage offerings. We need more people in the dining room to really create the comradery of a vibrant club. Come out and enjoy great food and fellowship! Senior Golf Events For August August 4th Mimosa Hills (WP Seniors-9:00 start) August 11th Catawba CC (WP Seniors-9:00 start) August 18th Catawba Springs. (WP Seniors-9:00 start) August 25th Cedar Rock (WP Seniors-9:00 start) Note:- Monday-Wednesday-Friday Senior Groups-9:00 start NOTE: There will be no Mimosa Hills Senior group play on Monday, August 4th, or 6th. August 4th Western Piedmont Senior play at 9:00 and on August 6th the golf course is closed in the morning in preparation for the Mimosa Hills Pro-Am. 4
Mimosa Hills Junior Golf Team The Mimosa Hills Junior Golf Team finished it s regular season with a Catawba CC. We finished with 4-2 record, which was tied with Catawba CC for league best. Mimosa Hills had accumulated 43 total points for the season, while Catawba finished with 40. Mimosa Hills were deemed Champions of the Western North Carolina PGA Junior League. Congratulations to all of the following Juniors that participated. Lots if laughs with this group! 6
Golf Course by Dan Winters, Green Superintendent O verall, the golf course is in great condition. So far this summer, the rains have been timely and the summer temperatures have not been extreme. The greens are smooth but moderate in green speed due to the fact that we maintain a conservative height of cut until consistent cooler weather sets in. Please remember to push inward and forward when repairing ball marks on the greens. Do not lift up. This action will tear the roots. Also, it is best to use a proper ball mark repair tool versus using a golf tee. Thanks for your cooperation. I want to especially thank all of the members that volunteer their time and effort in landscape and golf course maintenance duties. This is a breath of fresh air. Thank you! Four old men went into the pro shop after playing 18 holes of golf. The pro asked, "Did you guys have a good game today?" The first old guy said, "Yes, I had three riders today." The second old guy said, "I had the most riders ever. I had five." The third old guy said, "I had seven riders, the same as last time." The last old man said, "I beat my old record. I had 12 riders today." After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had heard the old guys talking about their game went to the pro and said, "I've been playing golf for a long time and thought I knew all the terminology of the game, but what's a rider?" The pro said, "A rider is when you hit the ball far enough to actually get in the golf cart and ride to it." -- Howard P. Curtis 7
Golf Tournament Chairman by Buddy Riebel Fellow Members, July was another good month for Tournaments at our Club!
