1 September 2015 Life and Events at Mimosa Hills Junior Club Winners: From the Chairman: September News Junior Club 11 & Under Boys: 1 st Jackson Denton 2 nd Hampton Denton Junior Club 11 & Under Girls: 1 st Allie Witherspoon 2 nd Kaylen Best Great Weather, Fun & New Members! While I can t believe it s already September, Mimosa Hills continues to have a full slate of golf tournaments and social activities. And we continue to grow. At the August Board Meeting we approved sixteen new members. Please join me in welcoming them. Amy & Louise Asbury - SOCIAL Ben Ridley - NON-RESIDENT Colton Makowiec - ASSOCIATE Donald & Shari Cooper - NON-RESIDENT Dr. Andrew Michael Ross - RESIDENT SINGLE Frank & Jeanette Ridley - NON-RESIDENT Greg & Melanie Mellone - NON-RESIDENT Jason & Renee Chambers - NON-RESIDENT Keener & Joan Smathers - SOCIAL Michael & Kathleen Ferrence - SOCIAL Peter & Cameron Henderson - NON-RESIDENT Richard & Ava Turner - SOCIAL Richard & Tammy Frost - NON-RESIDENT Rick & Debbie Franklin - SOCIAL Robert (Bob) & Lisa Kelley - NON-RESIDENT William & Susan Perry - RESIDENT SINGLE (From the Chairman continued on page 2)

2 From the Chairman continued 2 (From the Chairman continued from page 1) This means we now have over 100 new members across all categories since the beginning of the year. I hope you re all as proud as I am in this accomplishment. And the Board thinks this deserves a special celebration! Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 22 for our Member Appreciation Day. There will be food and beverage specials all day long as well as sale items in the pro shop. This will be a special day and I hope everyone will come out to join the fun. So while we will celebrate the milestone of 100 new members, I want you all to know that on behalf of the board and staff of Mimosa Hills, we appreciate your membership everyday. And here s my marketing tip of the month. Mimosa Hills sells a complete line of Yeti coolers and insulated cups. Yeti products have become very popular and I see them everywhere. They keep food and beverages cold longer than anything else I ve experienced. And you can purchase Yeti products through our Pro Shop. Just stop in or call ( ). Finally, we ve begun to sod some of our bare spots on the golf course such as bunker faces, tees and along the left side of the ninth hole by the driveway. These are much needed improvements and we still have time for the sod to take hold before the grass goes dormant for the winter. I want to thank a few individuals who donated the funds for this project. We recognize that there are other areas needing attention such as hole twelve and are formulating a plan to raise the funds to improve them. Please stay tuned for more information. So again, I want to thank everyone for their membership and encourage you to enjoy all the value we offer. As always, I look forward to seeing you there. -Chuck Ohrt President Frank Bowers 2015 Champion Samantha Woolard Frank Bowers 2015 Champion Thomas Messenheimer

6 On The Course: 6 The bentgrass greens performed extremely well for a very hot summer. The average temperature for June was 77 degrees, July was 79 degrees and half way through August was 78 degrees. In comparison, last year was 74.5 degrees for those three months. Some summers are worse than others. The summers of 2010 and 2011 were equally as hot as this past year. I cannot emphasize enough not only the importance of the May aerification and topdressing just prior to the heat, but the Life and Events at Mimosa Hills importance of the program in general of the 3 aerifications and topdressings per year. We must consistently adhere to USGA recommendations on how to maintain proper organic matter content for bentgrass greens in the south. The pencil sized solid tine venting done in July is an important supplement as well. May 2014 We will begin the last aerification on September 8 th, the day after Labor Day. Typically we schedule to have nine holes open each day throughout the week, but please always call ahead to the Pro Shop or check your e-blast for the latest information. The weather and or equipment issues can throw us a curve ball and we have to alter the schedule. The next aerification is in early March 2016, some 26 weeks away. With the upcoming cooler nights the greens will heal quickly and start to build new roots which decline throughout the summer heat. This is when one truly feels the greens firming back up and will allow us to produce the best bentgrass green conditions of the year. The Fall! -Dan Winters Superintendent Boys Finn Rigsbee
