1 Gelandesprung Gazette 34 years and still going downhill. August 2004 New Dues I hope you are all having a great summer! Well to add to that, I have some good news for you. The board has followed up on a recommendation from the previous board that the club is now in such a position that we can offer to lower the membership dues. How can we do this these days when everything else is costing more? you ask. One of the reasons is that we have had some businesses that were gracious enough to advertise in our newsletters, which helps to reduce our bottom line. Also, many members now receive their newsletters by instead of through the postal system. This saves the club a lot of money on postage and printing. A third reason is that the number of members has grown over the last few years which also helps with the costs of running this club. Hopefully, lowering the dues will help to attract even more members. Next season, (this Fall), the dues will be lowered to $30 for a single membership and $50 for married couples. Granted, the dues may have to go back up again someday, but after careful review, we feel for now that the time is right to lower them. As summer starts to slip away from us we can start thinking of (this Fall) and then Ski Season! The trips lay out like this for the upcoming season. Marquette Day Trip: 12/18, Lutsen: 12/29-1/1, Big Snow 1: 1/7-9, Steamboat: 1/21-25, Searchmont: 2/4-6, Granite Peak Friday Evening: 2/18, Winter Park: 2/24-28, Big Snow 2: 3/4-6 and Lake Tahoe: 3/ As you can see, it s a full schedule. Combine that with the option of joining the Sly Foxes on their local trips and you can have plenty to keep you busy this winter. One hiccup in the schedule is that, due to the week long Lake Tahoe trip leaving a week sooner than usual next year, we won t be able to run the trip to Marquette for their Spring Carnival. This yearly event has been a popular trip for our club for many years but unfortunately falls on the same weekend we will head for Tahoe. Hopefully we will be able to return for Spring Carnival again the following season? I think you will like how the new schedule plays out. Your board members have spent a lot of time researching and planning these trips. More details and pricing will follow as things are finalized. There is a substantial cost involved with sending the newsletter out by regular mail. Not only that but if you haven t seen any of the newsletter articles that Penny Holman has done in color you are missing out! They are something to see. There is a catch though. You have to receive your newsletter by . Mailed newsletters are copies and are in black & white. is a fast and easy way to get your monthly newsletter. It saves the club time and money, so if you have internet access please consider receiving your newsletter by . Just think of the work it takes each month to copy, collate, staple, stamp and mail the newsletter not to mention the cost to you and your club. (Did you know that in addition to creating our newsletter each month, Penny also does all that)! So sign up by letting us know. It s easy and will really help out.
