Sorry to say the kayak thing didn t work out but a huge thanks to Dee Dee for her efforts in arranging the event. I went to the first happy hour event which was a fun night with about people showing up. We even had three potential new members there to check us out. I hope to see them on the slopes this winter. Check out the newsletter for up-coming events and come on and join in on the fun! As you may have heard cause no one can keep a secret, we are heading to Breckenridge this January. This will be a great trip and we were told a new part of the mountain should be open when we get there. I m excited about this trip as I haven t been there for a very long time and it will include a day trip to Vail for those who so choose. Also you will be able to ski Keystone and A-basin on this trip. I can feel my legs burning already! We will be discontinuing snail mailing the newsletter in the near future. The cost, time and effort for the few that still get snail mail is just too much. This is a volunteer based organization and people s time and effort are at a premium. It is time consuming to snail mail the newsletter. Make arrangements to get a copy from a friend or go to the library and view it on line. It will make life a lot easier for our editor. This subject has been kicked around for several years now and I think it is time to act on it. Your understanding in this matter is appreciated and we are not doing it to offend anyone. All the people and fun times of a ski trip; but on your bicycle! Choose from 2 routes, based on your interest and ability. A short and easy ride or a longer, more aggressive route. Please bring your bicycle, your favorite beverage, and a dish to pass based on your last name is listed in alphabet (listed below). 4 The 2013 National Bike Challenge is a free and fun program to help people across the U.S. improve their health, save on transportation, and reduce our impact on the environment. It is a free and easy way to challenge yourself to ride your bicycle for exercise and transportation. It is fun, promotes teamwork and encourages a healthy lifestyle. It is a great opportunity to loose a few pounds while sculpting our glutes for the beach. The warm-up period for this year s challenge started March 1, putting the challenge way out in front of the weather this year. The warm up period allows you to start logging your miles for fun. The official start of the challenge is May 1, and the challenge will run through September 30. Why Participate in the Challenge? Fun: You can join a team or ride individually. Either way you can track your progress versus your friends and you have a chance to win prizes. Health: Participation in the challenge gives you a reason to get on your bike today and every day. Economics: Bicycles do not need to stop at the gas pump! Using your bicycle for transportation saves money directly. More importantly, a healthy lifestyle can reduce health care costs. Environment: Biking reduces greenhouse gases. Nearly 50% of all trips in metropolitan areas are three miles or less, making these trips a good distance for cycling. Camaraderie: The web page for the National Bike Challenge has a networking application. This site is used to share information about cycling events and services. It also allows you to communicate with your friends and share information with the cycling community. Join the challenge at Click the Join button and become a new user or join via your Facebook profile. Now you have the chance to list your workplace. Make sure to write it in exactly as Thilmany, LLC so that you will be counted with us. The Challenge has many great prizes, and each month prizes will be given away to reward Challenge participants. The more you bike, the better your chance of winning will be! The Challenge uses a point system to encourage riding and measure your standing. You will receive 20 points for each day that you ride one mile or more plus one point for each mile that you ride. To learn more about the Challenge, visit To join a team, you will need to click on Leaderboard at the top of the page and navigate to the Teams section. Once there, a prompt will apear in the right side of the screen that says" It looks like you're riding solo! Click here to join a team." Once there, you'll be able to join our team. Sandy and I created a team for Gelandesprung and the Sly Foxes called "Skiers Roll." There is no limit to the number of team members; everyone is welcomed to join. There is a Facebook page for the Challenge once you join, you can encourage others, just Like the Facebook page!

5 The Merriam Webster dictionary defines the word Social as an adjective and is marked by or passed in pleasant companionship with friends or associates. Using this definition as my beacon, I look forward to serving as your newly elected Social Events Coordinator. For those who do not know, this a new board member position thatt was created for the season. The primary purpose is to provide a variety of year round, non-ski activities that keeps you engaged with each other off the ski hill. I hope you are pleased with the results. I look forward to hearing you laugh and sometimes cry over the last season, while commiserating over who will be the next season s Obtuse winners. This is the first of many more articles to come. The first official activity began on Friday June 7 with a happy hour at Jimmy Seas in Green Bay. We wined and dined on the outdoor patio for several hours under fantastic temperatures & a bright sun. If you missed this one, than you need to know that over 15 people attended, including 4 prospective members! A big thanks goess out to member Rick Dufek for referring them! It is through wordd of mouth that we get our best members. There are several more happy hours throughout the summer that you can participate in. Feel free to come withh a friend, for some, or all of the evening. Check out this issue forr more information. The second opportunity to experience companionship amongst friends was on Sunday June 9 with the first annual Komo 2 Komo bike ride. This was a friendly bike ride for r all ages and abilities that took us on a 26 mile tour of East Green Bay and Ledgview areas. Mike Komoroske hosted the ride from his home in East Green Bay where 9 riders ncluding a tandem departed shortly after the planned noon departure. Someone who will not bee named in this article forgot his shoes! It s a good thing there was no Obtuse award thatt day! Although the weather looked questionable e in the morning, the afternoon cleared up. Mike planned a great, relatively flat route that was fit for all riders. The temperatures were comfortable, the sun was out, and the winds not too strong. Participants ended the ride with a food and beverage stop at Townline Bar and Grill and then a social round at Mike s house. Thank you Mike for opening your home to riders, for taking the time too plan a great route and most important; opening your refrigeratorr when we returned home! If you are now wishing for more, than today is your day! Check out this month s newsletter for a chancee to attend the all new Bicycle Ride and BBQ being hosted by our president Ron Quick and last the annual club picnic. Between the happy hours, bike rides and picnics in the next few months I suree hope to see you out and about. I willl sign off today by saying this has been a fun position so far and one I look forward to holding for a long time if you will let me. However, I am one person and cannot do everything. The success of the position is dependent on feedback, ideas and your volunteering to help. All that I ask is if have an idea, pleasee be prepared to take ownership of it.
