I hope by now all of you have had a chance to see the changes. Several items are still to be installed, but all of those should be completed by the first of November. Some of the remaining items to be installed are: New front doors, area rugs for the entry, fireplace chairs, private dining room dividers, wine lockers and some additional banquet chairs. Mike Fery, Kingfish Thank You! I want to personally thank the House Committee Chaired by George Iliff. The Committee, which consists of Andy Erstad, Dan Givens, Dale Higer, Pat McMurray, Brian Ellsworth, Chuck Hedemark, Dick Chastain, Ellen Meyer, James Steele Jr., and Cheryl Larabee, spent many hours and numerous meetings deciding on the design firm, budget and the interior finishes. George Iliff did an excellent job chairing these meetings, as well as spending most of the Closure period at the Club answering questions. I also want to thank the Staff, lead by our General Manager Alvin Charlton. Alvin was at the Club every day managing the chaos of construction. He did a great job! The Staff came back after a little time off and put the Club back together. Great job by all! New Club Amenities: We added several new things to the Club s offerings. First, we converted the old phone room into a new private cocktail area. Great for a romantic drink or a quiet place to host a business guest to discuss the finer points of your business deal. Please check it out. Secondly, with the recommendation of the Wine Committee, which is Chaired by Bill Drake, we added wine lockers on the 2 nd floor. These wine lockers will be installed in the next few weeks. They will be offered for lease on a yearly basis. Look for more information next month on how this new program will work. New Arid Club Web Site: Check out our new website Brad Wiskirchen, our Junior Board Member and Chair of the Web Committee, did a fantastic job taking our one page static web site and having it converted to a state-of-the-art site. We will be adding features to the site over the next few months. Brad will walk us through the site at our Annual Meeting in February. A representative from the website company, will be giving a preview at the Grand Re-Opening. Grand Re-Opening Party: The Grand Re-Opening Party will be Thursday, October 9 th, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 9 pm. The party is for Members and spouse or a guest. The event is hosted by the Club as a thank you to all of our Members for their patience during the remodel. Please plan on attending!! Most of all, enjoy your new Club! 1

2 The Manager s Desk Alvin Charlton Welcome Back It is great to be open again. The initial reaction from those of you who have visited the Club over the past week has been overwhelmingly positive. I have been hearing comments about how warm and inviting the Club feels and how spacious it is (although the footprint remains the same). The staff have all returned and are eager to pick up where they left off prior to their extended vacation. Now is the perfect time to bring prospective members to the Club. It is important that we maintain a strong and vibrant membership. Our present situation is very good, but at this time we need each of you to recommit to bringing in one new member. The process is very simple, so please contact April ( ) for a membership packet. The new membership packet contains a lot of information about the Club, including catering and other amenities that are offered. April will gladly guide you through the process and help in any way she can. Due to member complaints, and to make the interior of the Club inviting to Members and their guests, the Arid Club Board of Directors has expanded the no smoking policy to include all areas of the Club, with the exception of the outside patios. Once again, please come and visit your newly refurbished Club as soon as possible. See you around the Club. 4 New Club Policy Effective immediately, the Arid Club will now be a smoke-free Club. That means there will be no smoking allowed inside the Club. However, smoking will be allowed on the outside patios. 4

5 Chef Mac Chef s Corner Welcome back Arid Club Membership! I hope you enjoy the changes to the Club s interior. I believe I speak for the rest of the staff when I say that I m relieved to be open again. As the season changes, so will many of the products that we showcase. I have begun to receive products from Peaceful Belly, a local organic farm. Their produce is exceptional and we will use them as long as we can. I ve also added Ballard Farm s Danish Pearl cheese to our lunch menu. This cheese is produced at a family farm in Gooding, and is similar to a light Gouda. On September 6 th, I participated in the Taste of Idaho Chef Challenge. The event was sponsored by Sysco Foodservice and Idaho Preferred. The goal of the event was to promote Idaho foods and wines. The dish I created was a fingerling potato wrapped Lava Lakes Lamb sirloin with apple mint chutney, duck yolk and arugula aioli, accompanied with a shaved green bean salad. All the products used were produced in Idaho. It was very well received by the judges and will find its way to our menu soon. I hope most of you will find the time to join us for our Grand Re-Opening Gala on October 9th. We are working hard to make it a memorable event. Reservations for the Father/Daughter dinner on October 11 th are filling up. Please reserve your table soon so you won t miss out on this opportunity. The last day to make your reservations will be Monday, October 6 th. Chris Mac McDonald, C.C.C. 6 Junior Committee In his classic work, Don Juan, Lord Byron wrote: Let us have wine... mirth and laughter, Sermons and soda water the day after. Brad Wiskirhcen Troy Wheeler and I decided that the first line of this suggestion was something that we should facilitate for the Juniors this year. Whether the Juniors then decide to follow the second recommendation is up to them. As such, please join us on Thursday, October 16, 2008 for Wine 101 Night. On this evening you will have an opportunity to learn about wine selection, storage, pairing, and acquisition from a wine connoisseur. After this evening, attendees should be in a position to begin collecting vintages worthy of storing in the Club s new wine lockers (contact Alvin if you d like details about these). Details about the event are forthcoming. Also, the Club s new website is almost finished. The site s official release will be October 9. But with this newly revised tool, you will be able to make reservations, access Club documents (bylaws, etc.), peruse the membership directory, read Club newsletters, access information about reciprocal clubs, and review the Club s upcoming events calendar. After the release, if you have any functionality suggestions, please let me know. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Grand Reopening on the 9 th of October. Brad Wiskirchen Golf Tournament On Saturday, September 27 th, the Arid Club hosted its Annual Kingfish Cup Golf Tournament at the Whitetail Resort in McCall. The actual fun began on Friday, as members took practice rounds around the course to prepare for Saturday. That evening, while dinner was served, favorite Arid Club memories were shared as well as a ton of laughs. Trying to get back to tradition, the Junior members challenged the Resident members to see which group of golfers were better. Although there were no broken putters this year, there was some fierce competition and everyone seemed to enjoy the tournament. In the end the Resident members were victorious over the Junior members, by a margin of 10 points. Thank you to all of the members that participated. 7 Thomas Ruth T.R. Employee Spotlight On Friday, September 19 th, T.R. celebrated his 20 th year with the Club. T.R. was here on the opening day of the Club, here at the River St. location. He does so many different things around the Club that we couldn t think of a sufficient official title for him. T.R. does anything from cleaning, to maintenance, to dishwashing, to engineering, and so much more. When not at the Club, he spends his time with his four children. He has three boys and one girl, ranging in ages from 9 years old to 16. T.R. likes to go camping in the summer with his family, collect coins, and gardening. The Arid Club would like to give a special thanks to Thomas Ruth, T.R., for his wonderful years of service. 7
