We will discuss preparedness for Level 2 of the Earthquake/Major Disaster. We need you all to know what our procedures are and want your input to improve our future simulation activity this coming October. All new residents are welcome to join us. We will plan the rest of the activities for this year in preparation for the Drill on October 17, Mark your calendars for the following dates: May 23 rd, July 18 th, September 26 th, and Thursday, October 17 th, the date of the Great America Shake Out. It has come to our attention that several books from two authors (Robyn Carr & Kat Martin) have been checked out and have not been returned. All the Martin books and least a dozen Carr books are not on the shelves. We appreciate that you are utilizing our little library, but in the future, please check out no more than three books at a time. Please return the books you have borrowed as soon as possible. Imagine how you need not lift a finger to have your regular or gluten free pancakes with ham delivered to you. You can even whet your appetite by sauntering over to the beverage table to select your choice of juice or coffee. Perhaps you wish to down a different morning pick-me-up. For an additional cost, you may have a Bloody Mary or Mimosa. Then, set your calendar for Sat., May 4 th. Seating begins at 8:00 am and service lasts until 11:00 am. Look for posters and future articles for contact information on how to purchase tickets. This tempting and inviting invitation comes from the new Condo Improvement Club Board: Chair: Mary Lee Lombardi; Vice Chair: Sharon Carey; Secretary: Elsie Wu; and Treasurer: Warren Weimer. In fact, when Barbara started the committee, she was its only member, doing everything needed to hold a golf tournament for the community. Traditionally, the March tournament was used to commemorate St. Patrick's Day and was called the "Luck O' The Irish", which is completely appropriate for Ms. O Callaghan. The tournament itself went off without a hitch. In addition to playing golf and winning all the prize money, we had a great lunch cold beer and wine furnished by Islands Hawaiian BBQ. If you missed this one, you should be kicking yourself. Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who helped to make it happen. 7 FREE SMOKE ALARM INSTALLATION The Torrance Fire Department and American Red Cross will be coming to New Horizons for their third round of free smoke alarm installations. The date is set for April 13, Please sign up at the New Horizons office if you want this service. They will come to your unit, and will test your present smoke alarms. If need be, they will remove and install a new smoke alarm in any room that needs one. This is an outreach service provided to our community through a grant.
