Be sure and watch for these opportunities in your . One of the items that we need to be particularly aware of is deadline dates. Each host is under pressure to make dates and commitments to courses and events. If you procrastinate you may lose! Also, each of us should take the extra step to thank our host and hostesses for the fine job that they do. A little Thank you goes a long way! Bring a Friend to the Next Social Event or Golf Outing We have an abundance of non-golf and golf activities throughout the year, where you can join with your fellow members for some really fun times. 3 GOLF COMMITTEE REPORT Be Thoughtful of Our Hosts and Hostesses One of my duties as golf chairperson is to assist the golf event hosts and hostesses. After working with several of them during my first year, I ve observed a trend that I would like to see change. One consistency for all golf events is that a large number of members do not reply to the event hosts until very close to the deadline or even after the deadline date. We, as a chapter, owe these golf event planners a huge vote of gratitude for the time they volunteer to organize with the courses, create a flyer, collect all RSVPs, collect and account for all monies, determine pairings and tee times, and more. Anything we can do to make this easier on them is much appreciated, and I know from their comments that being very prompt with your RSVP is most important. We all know there are times when a late response cannot be helped, but this should be seldom instead of the norm. Also, when you send your to attend, please take the time to immediately mail in your check. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated by me and all hosts. Thank you in advance. We Still Have Golf Fall is here and our golf season is drawing to a close, but there are still a few events for you to get in on. Be sure to check the weather forecast before heading out. We play when it s cold; we just put on lots of layers and bring our cart covers if we have them. Fall golf is beautiful! Moose Ridge - Sunday, 10/24, contact Denny O Neill ( ) Gull Lake Weekend, 10/29 10/31, contact Denny O Neill ( ) Fall Impromptu Golf Keep an eye on the weekend weather until we see snow. Who knows? Maybe we ll have some warm weekends into November. If this is the case, I ll arrange for impromptu golf and send an invite. I ll need RSVPs from you to secure enough tee times but other than that, these are pay as you play events. Keep your golf tees crossed. Come on out and join the fun at any of our events whether it s a golf or social event. ~Mary Ann Wenger, golf chair mrstangman@wowway.com SOCIAL NEWS It's time to come indoors and party with your friends (and this group likes to party)! Ideas Welcome I encourage new and old members to invite us over for "whatever". Euchre or any card game always draws a nice crowd to "your" desired group-size evening. A gathering where members bring a course makes an easy at-home dinner party; or, just dazzle us with your culinary talent. We enjoy games, cards, going to movies, and just being with our friends. Have you tried a night out to some of our local coffee houses? There s great entertainment available. Feel free to call me on my cell phone ( ) with your ideas, and I ll help you plan an event. We are also in need of hosts for monthly Meet & Greets. October 15 Meet & Greet Please join us on Friday, October 15 th for the first fall Meet & Greet hosted by Cheryl Shewach at the Bayside Sports Grill in Walled Lake starting at 5:30 p.m. Please RSVP to Cheryl at or cshewach@yahoo.com October 29 th Halloween Meet & Greet October s Halloween Meet & Greet will be hosted by Bonnie Miles and Christy Hendriks at the Red Dog Tavern in Milford on Friday, October 29 th starting at 7:00 p.m. The hosts request that you wear a costume and join in the fun. We also play a game called Horse Racing. So start saving your quarters for a little low-stakes gambling and guaranteed laughter. Weather permitting, we ll also have a bon-fire. I have moved to the Brighton/Pickney area and still have lots of room for all of you. Watch for the flyers or you can RSVP now at patriciab1127@yahoo.com. ASGA Book Club The book club resumes this year on October 25 with a new location in Novi. Watch for flyers announcing the location and other details. The October Book is Shooting for Par by Sam Segal, a murder mystery with a golfing theme. The November book could be The Defective Detective: Murder on the Links by Adam Maxwell, or another book chosen by the book club attendees. For questions, contact Mary Wright at or her at mary.wright@trw.com. Friday TGIFs The Friday TGIFs will start up again soon. Watch for flyers announcing the location and other details. If you have a favorite location you d like us to try, let Patsy McKenna know. Pickleball It s time for Pickleball again! Open Pickleball is on-going year round with the Northville Parks and Recreation every Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Northville Hillside Middle School. Picking up where we left off last year, Mike Cain is again going to provide some "learn to play" sessions in November during open Pickleball, followed by weekly play. In the meantime, if anyone is interested in an outdoor session (probably at Bicentennial Park in Livonia), give Mike a call at or him at mscain@earthlink.net and he ll set it up.

The golf might stop but never the friendships! See you somewhere. ~Patricia Burry, social chair patriciab1127@yahoo.com ~Suzanne Peltier, co-chair simplysuz763@sbcglobal.net TWIN LAKES GOLF AND SWIM CLUB On urday September 4, 2010, we had 22 players attend this event. Everyone had a great time. After play, we went to the Hills Sports Bar. Closest to the pin (CTP) awards went to Jean Washington, Denny O Neill, Susan Merrick, Helen Puffenberger, and Tish Gordon. A random draw award went to Art Veenstra. Thanks to Denny O Neill for planning this great day of golf. GAYLORD FALL GETAWAY Another great weekend trip is on the record for 26 ASGA members. The trip started with our first round at The Loon, where 20 members enjoyed this challenging golf course. The temperature was a little chilly when we started but warmed nicely as the day went on. After the round of golf, we ventured over to the Quality Inn to check in, where we were treated to a platter of cookies at check in and throughout the weekend. Our next adventure was going to BJ s restaurant for dinner where some ordered off the menu, and others enjoyed the extended buffet with a senior price of $9.95 (you couldn t go wrong). The evening was capped off with some taking advantage of the meeting room provided for us to play cards and enjoy some adult beverages. Golf on urday was at beautiful Elk Ridge, ranked # 12 in Michigan by Golf Magazine. While some used the directions from the hotel to make the 32 mile trek, others used their GPS to find the shorter route. Well, the shorter route used dirt roads with scenic views of men with orange vests and rifles to help out if needed. Golfing at Elk Ridge was delayed by 30 minutes because of rain. The first groups out played in a light rain. But then the rain cleared out, and we ended with another beautiful day for golf. The prizes for the day were won by: Art Veenstra, Tish Gordon, Gary Tarlowicz, and Diane Mitchell for closest to the pin on the par 3 s. The prizes for the longest putt were won by: Bruce Misko, Lori Clifton, and Steve Benson. Elk Ridge is a very scenic, wooded course and was well worth the drive to get there. Our last day of golf was at the Gaylord Country Club. The 9:00 tee time was still not late enough to avoid a frost delay. Yes a frost delay, our first of the season. After about a 20-minute delay, we were all able to tee off with a shotgun start. This was a much more player-friendly course and a good course to end the weekend. The prize winners for the day were: Denny O Neill and Susan Merrick for closest to the pin, and Nancy Strong for the longest putt. Three prizes were not won on the course so a drawing was used to award those prizes. They were won by: Sharon Johnson, Denny O Neill, and Mike Bartel. With the shotgun start we all finished around the same time which was a nice way to end the weekend. Some decided to head for home and a group of 20 ventured to Iva s famous chicken dinner restaurant in Sterling for dinner; another gem of a restaurant arranged by Bruce Kaier. A special thanks goes to Gaye Wanner for taking pictures (again), to document the outing. The pictures will be on the web site soon. This outing offered three great playagain courses which were well maintained with challenging greens. I m starting to look forward to the next get away outing. Thanks to Mike Bartel for planning this outstanding weekend. POLO FIELDS WASHTENAW COUNTRY CLUB On Sunday, September 26, 2010, we had 23 players attend this golf outing. It s always a treat to play this course because the golf track, the staff, and the facilities are all top notch. We ll need to rename this event to the Lori Clifton Open. Lori won

5 three of the four closest to the pin awards and on a random draw basis, she won four Hit the Green awards. What a day for Lori! Art Veenstra won the fourth CTP award. Way to go Art. The temperature was a little brisk and I used my cart cover which kept the chill down. It is getting to be time to think about cart covers and heaters. Thanks (again) to Denny O Neill for planning this fun day of golf.
