FLESHMAN AND SHAW WIN 2012 RMSPGA FACILITY CHAMPIONSHIP Brent Fleshman, PGA Head Professional at Jackpot Golf Club in Jackpot, Nevada, and his assistant John Shaw teamed to shoot rounds of 63 and 67 to best three other teams by a single shot in the 2012 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Facility Championship presented by Cleveland Golf and Srixon. Defending champions Ben Bryson, PGA and Jonathan Gibbs, PGA from BanBury Golf Course put up a serious fight to retain their title. Gibbs made an ace on the par 3, 12th hole of the second round en route to their team total 131 to finish tied for second place with Crane Creek Country Club s Ron Rawls, PGA and Luke Sestero. Also shooting 131 was the team of Adam Martens, PGA and Brett Nagel, PGA from The Club at Spurwing. Low second round honors went to the team of Peter Nichenko, PGA and Scott McGeachin, PGA from Warm Springs Golf Course. Their 65 in the second round Modified Alternate Shot format was a shot clear of the rest of the field. The single day 36-hole Championship was contested April 23, 2012 at the 6918 yard, par 72 layout at Ridgecrest Golf Club in Nampa, Idaho. The first round was a better ball of partners and the second round was a modified alternate shot format. Both players on the two-man team must come from the same facility. The Rocky Mountain Section PGA wishes to thank Ridgecrest Golf Club, PGA Director of Golf, Jim Brown and his staff for hosting the event. A sincere thank you goes out to Sales Representative Mitch Bourgault from Cleveland GOLF/SRIXON for their sponsorship of the tournament. Thanks to Maui Jim Sales Representative, Charley Carlson and Pepsi Director of Sales, Ralph Eckles for their continued support.

LEE AND STRICKER DOMINATE THE YELLOWSTONE CHAPTER PGA PRO-PRO Kelbi Lee, PGA Head Professional at Briarwood Country Club in Billings, Montana and Matthew Stricker, Assistant Professional at Exchange City Golf Course in Billings, Montana captured the 2012 Rocky Mountain Section PGA Yellowstone Chapter Pro-Pro supported by Titleist and Maui Jim. Lee and Stricker played exceptional golf both days of the championship finishing with a 54 hole total of 19 under par, 194. Aaron Pohle and Mark Holiday finished alone in second place with a 15 under par total of 198. The teams of David Snyder and Doug Hagen along with Woody Spainhower and Rich Swarthout finished 3rd and 4 th respectively with 54 hole totals of 199 and 200. The event was contested on the 6137 yard Hilands Golf Club in Billings, Montana on Monday and Tuesday, April 2 nd and 3 rd. The formats of play for the event included a scramble the first 18 holes, four-ball stroke play the second 18 holes, and modified alternate shot (Chapman) the final 18 holes. Lee and Stricker played their very best the first day shooting the low individual score in each of the first two rounds. Doug Conner and Ken Sipes shot 64 in the Chapman to win low honors in the final round. The Yellowstone Chapter wishes to thank Doug Hagen, PGA General Manager, Eddie Kavran, PGA Head Professional, and the Hilands Golf Club and its staff for hosting the event. The Chapter also thanks Titleist representative Terry Outzen, PGA, and Maui Jim representative Kevin Burnett for their support of the event. JOHN SHAW CLAIMS THE SRCPGA MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP John Shaw, Assistant Professional at Jackpot Golf Club in Jackpot, Nevada defeated Dominick Conti, PGA Head Professional at Sun Valley Resort Golf Course in Sun Valley,Idaho after 23 grueling holes to capture the 2012 SRCPGA Match Play Championship. In the consolation match, Bobby Howell, PGA Teaching Professional at Highland Golf Course in Pocatello, Idaho, outlasted Sean Thomsen, Assistant Professional at Idaho Falls Country Club in Idaho Falls, Idaho, 2 up. Warm but blustery conditions ruled the final day as the players completed their 5th match over the 3 day championship. The championship match was closely contested throughout. All square thru 9 and 18 holes, Shaw appeared to have the match finally in hand on the 22nd hole, but Conti made an improbable par from a difficult position to push the match one hole further. Shaw closed out the match with two putts on the 23 hole.

The Snake River Chapter Match Play Championship presented by Bridgestone Golf and PEPSI and supported by Maui Jim, was contested Monday, April 9th thru Wednesday April 11th at the 6,454 yard par 72 Blue Lakes Country Club in Twin Falls, Idaho. Jeff Thomsen, PGA, of Boise, Idaho defeated Chris Eastman, PGA Assistant Professional at Sand Creek Golf Course in Idaho Falls, Idaho, 4 up to win the senior division consolation bracket. The Rocky Mountain Section and Snake River Chapter of the PGA would like to thank Blue Lakes Country Club, host PGA Professional Mike Hamblin, and all the staff for their hospitality. 4 SNAKE RIVER CHAPTER PGA PROFESSIONALS AND AMATEURS RAISE $8,000 FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AT ANNUAL PRO-AM

Adam Martens, PGA Head Professional at The Club at Spurwing in Meridian, Idaho, shot a brilliant weather battered 5 under par 66 to outlast a field of 30 professionals and their amateur teams to win the 2012 Larry Malone Scholarship Pro-Am. On the team side Ridgecrest Golf Club Director of Golf, Jim Brown, PGA, and his amateur players Byron Orr, Craig Richey, and Joe Haggerty shot a team total of 127 in the one gross ball, one net ball format to take home the first place hardware. This long standing charity event was held at the 6821 yard, par 71, Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho. Since 1974, the Rocky Mountain PGA and generous sponsors have teamed up to raise close to $200,000 in scholarship funds for junior golfers. This scholarship program started in memory of Larry Malone who had a successful career in golf at Twin Falls High School and Weber State University. Mr. Malone succumbed to cancer in 1974, and for thirty-eight years local PGA Professionals, amateurs, friends and family have gathered to remember this young man and his love of the game. The Malone family, The Rocky Mountain Section PGA and The Rocky Mountain Section PGA Foundation wish to sincerely thank Pepsi Bottling Ventures, LLC representatives Frank Wallace and Paul Antrim for their continued support of this event. In addition, thanks go out to Troy Vitek, PGA, Tim Reinke, PGA and his wife Cindy, and the Saunders family for their contributions. Many thanks to Dave Carollo, PGA and the rest of the Hillcrest Country Club staff for their always gracious hospitality. PGA Professionals play 100 holes of golf, all in one day, on their own courses, one ball, and one hole at a time. PGA Professionals request donations to support their day of play. Each PGA Professional sponsors themselves for at least $1 per hole or $100 and then seeks outside pledges. In 2011, over $10,900 was raised for the charities. For 2012, the RMSPGA Golf Days will run from June 1-September 30. We encourage you to participate in this worthwhile cause by Clicking Here to sign up and create your donation page. RULES OF GOLF SEMINAR Missy Jones from the Montana State Golf Association will be presenting a Rules Seminar on Tuesday, June 26 th at Lake Hills Golf Club, Billings, Montana. DEMONSTRATE YOUR VALUE THROUGH GOLF 2.0 Jeff Beaudry, PGA Employment Consultant We Employment Consultants are often asked by employers; What can a PGA Professional do for me that no one else can? In the past we had some fairly strong arguments, but they tended to be seen as a bit vague and sometimes difficult to prove. Golf 2.0, now answers that question quantifiably. The PGA of America has provided its members with an incredible toolbox of resources

that can add benefit to any facility and professional. I encourage you to view Golf 2.0 and its components not, as another task on your already full desk, but rather as a golden opportunity to demonstrate your value to your employer by increasing rounds and revenue. Golf 2.0 Playbook and Gameplan Updates Available NOW! In February the PGA released two new resources as part of Golf 2.0, the PGA s strategic plan to lead the golf industry s efforts to grow the game of golf. Unveiled were the Golf 2.0 Player Development Playbook and Gameplan. These two resources provide guidance to PGA Members seeking to implement programs at their own facilities to accomplish Golf 2.0 s initial goals; strengthen the core, bring back lapsed golfers and develop new golfers. The intent of these resources is that they will continue to be refined, improved and expanded on a regular basis. The latest addition to these resources is now available on the Know Your Customer Playbook and Know Your Customer 101. Know Your Customer 101, is the introductory high level primer to help market and engage industry personnel with the full Know Your Customer Playbook. The Know Your Customer Playbook serves as the warehouse of information for all tactics related to the initiative. A third document completes the set - Know Your Customer Facility Plan. The Know Your Customer Facility Plan provides a questionnaire which will identify ways to take advantage of opportunities. This document is designed to be a communications piece for the professional to share with their employer and other facility staff to communicate their facility plan for Know Your Customer. Why is it more important than ever to know your customer? Did you know? We have done a good job of creating new golfers Over the past 5 years we added an average of 3.7 million new golfers each year. Unfortunately, over the past 5 years we have not retained them On average we lost 4.4 million golfers annually. Did you know? Core golfers (8 rounds or more a year) play 94% of all rounds. In 2005 there were 18 million core golfers. Core golfers made up 60% of all golfers. Alarmingly, in 2011 there were only 14.4 million core golfers. Now they make up only 56% of all golfers. A vital statistic for public courses: 50% of all customers at public access facilities played just one round annually. Of those that only played one round, only 33% came back next year to play another round. Those who played two or more rounds had a retention rate of 70%. It is imperative then, that we design a strategy that caters to the needs of the core golfer as well as a strategy to capture the first time visitor as a regular customer. That is what the Know Your Customer tool is designed to do for you. In the introduction of the Playbook there is a clear statement that is relevant this spring You don't have to learn all of these strategies today. Each one of the processes is optional; for example, if you only want to get better at building relationships with

customers and don't want to utilize anything else listed in the book, that's okay and there are proven ideas that your fellow professionals have shared. BUT THE IMPORTANT THING IS THIS at least engage with the Playbook! It will provide creative and common sense tactics to add to your customer awareness skills. I wish you good spring weather and a successful 2012 season. As always, please contact me if there is anything I can do to help you meet your personal or professional goals. Jeff Beaudry is a PGA Certified Professional and Employment Consultant for the PGA of America. He can be contacted at (801) or by at jbeaudry@pgahq.com.
