6 Clubhouse News Michael Sjostrom General Manager Hello Fox Meadow Country Club Members! Well June is finally here although Mother Nature gave us somewhat of a rocky start weather wise, but I am happy to report that all systems are a go for summer fun so let s take advantage of all that Fox Meadow has to offer! Please review the calendar this month as well as the upcoming tournament schedule and block out some time to attend Club events and get the summer season off to a great start. You will be seeing a few upgrades over the next few weeks including: New Fitness Equipment Pool Furniture Parking Lot Renovations Clubhouse Repairs Please be aware that we are having the Clubhouse carpets cleaned Monday 8 th and anything we can do to help prevent course shoes walking through the Main Dining Room area s from the 9th on would be greatly appreciated. You will also be noticing some upgrades to the locker rooms including new counter tops as well as the overall look. In addition, we now have 5 pieces of new equipment for greens and grounds that was sorely needed on it s way to Club and I will be throwing a quick party once they hit the lot! I hope you can see from the items mentioned above that Eagle Golf is committed to restoring Fox Meadow back to the Club level experience that is expected as well as deserved from all the loyal Fox Meadow Members. There has been countless hours spent collecting all the necessary information, bids and estimates along with the new process regarding ordering since the new Company came on board around the first of the year but be reassured that we have the green light and I am excited for what lies ahead. 7 Turf Talk Jeremy Slota Golf Course Superintendent Membership of Fox Meadow, As June approaches, we say farewell to a May that brought several days of record high temperatures in the 90 s and a variety of complications with the irrigation system. Many of the green and tee complexes became hydrophobic, which literally means waterfearing. After a site visit with Eagle corporate agronomist, Scott Carrier, we devised a concise plan to attack those poor areas, and bring them back as quickly as possible. Moving forward into the month of June, we have already produced a significant increase in turf quality, due to both our cultural practices and the 2.4 of rain we received the last weekend in May. Greens and tees have both been fertilized and given an application of a wetting agent. These two applications feed the grass plant, as well as maintain a consistent moisture level across the playing surface. The rough is scheduled to be fertilized by middle of the month (earlier if delivered) and we have begun inter-seeding the Driving Range target greens with Ryegrass seed. After seeding, the target greens will get a topdressing of sweet peat, to speed up germination. The irrigation system is operating, and sprinkler head evaluation is in the process. This evaluation is going to help us be more efficient with our consumption of water, placing it where it needs to be by changing nozzle sizes and trajectory of the stream of water. The Greens and Grounds Department is staffed for the season, several of which have been with us a few years. We are excited for the upcoming Member/Member, and have been working hard to prepare for this special event. The Member/Member is an event that we have just as much passion for as all of you. Joining Fox Meadow once again, are young men and women playing in the AJGA Junior All Star Championship from June 15 th -18 th. This is my first opportunity to prepare for this event, and I have shared my excitement and anticipation with our staff. Our goal is to provide them a fair, yet challenging test of golf, and we feel very fortunate and take great pride in being able to display Fox Meadow to players from all over the country. Once approved for membership, no initiation fee is required and Membership may begin simply by your family member completing the Membership Application, preparing to have fun and beginning to pay the Club s monthly dues. We have had two great events so far and look forward to the rest of the season s full calendar of tournaments and events. A friendly reminder that the Individual Men s Match Play first round deadline is this upcoming Sunday, May 31st. The Two Man Match Play must be completed by June 13th. Brackets for the Couples Match Play are now posted. American Junior Golf Association June 15th-18th Starting Saturday June 13 you will start to see some of the Best year old golfers in the country around the Club. There will be a few practice rounds played by the participants of the tournament on Saturday, June 13th and Sunday, June 14th in the afternoon. The official tournament rounds will begin on Monday, June 15th through Thursday, June 18th. We are still looking for Volunteers for Tuesday through Thursday for timing stations, shuttle drivers, and general help with the tournament. If you are interested in being a volunteer for the AJGA tournament, please contact me as soon as possible. I am happy to announce that the upcoming Member/Member is on a wait list! If you would like to be added to the wait list please contact Kevin Maust in Weymouth s Golf Shop (330) The Member/Member will be held at Weymouth on Saturday, June 6th and Fox Meadow on Sunday, June 7th. Please be aware the driving range, practice facility, and golf course maybe unavailable during certain times of those dates in the upcoming months. Ladies Lite League is just around the corner starting on Thursday, June 4th! The first three weeks will be instructional clinics with the Golf Pro s and the following weeks will be 15-minute clinics followed by course play.
