August is always a funny month because the first two weeks we see many families on vacation and the Club slows down then we pick up again once schools starts.

Is it me or is this year going by too fast? I am happy to report July was another good month around the Club. I am encouraged to see the membership utilizing all areas of the Club. August is always a funny month because the first two weeks we see many families on vacation and the Club slows down then we pick up again once schools starts. There is still a lot of activity at the Club with the following events: Front Circle Party (Friday, Aug. 3), First Sunday Mimosa Brunch (Sunday, Aug. 5), Pizza & Make Your Own Pasta Night (Sunday, Aug. 5), Lobster Week (Aug. 7 10), Twilight Golf (Friday, Aug.10), and of course Labor Day weekend is around the corner. Also, save the date for our Fall Membership Party on Saturday, September 15th (more details will follow). Come out and enjoy the Club at one of these great events! August is also the time of year I ask my management staff to start developing budgets and capital requests for the coming year. One of my main focuses for 2019 will be how we run the Club on a daily basis. While this is always a main focus of my job as the General Manager, we will specifically look at everything from hours of operation, days of operation, club events and better utilization of the Club s amenities. I am not looking to reinvent the wheel but we need to make sure we are meeting the needs of our membership and operating the Club to meet those needs. The ultimate goal is to continue to add value to membership services while meeting the needs of our current and future members. I would like to recognize a few members of the CCP staff who are celebrating anniversaries with the Club: Dan Curless (35 years) Scott Brownfield (15 years) Robert Everett (15 years) Andy Morris (15 years) Frank Fromm (15 years) Annette Hollaway (10 years) These dedicated individuals have played a big part of the continued success of CCP throughout the years and I am honored and privileged to have them on my team. Finally, I want to congratulate the CCP Swim Team on their 3rd place finish at the CICCA swim meet held at Country Club of Decatur. CHRIS REIS, CCM FROM THE TENNIS COURTS BY SHANE SMITH It's hard to believe that August is already here! Junior Clinics will be ending on August 1st, but Adult Events will continue through the month of August. Be sure to stop by the pool on August 5 at 4pm for Jr. Tennis and Swim awards. There will be swimming until 7:30pm. I would love to see more people come out for Men's and Ladies Nights. Men's nights begin at 5:00pm and Ladies Nights begin 5:30pm with drills and 6:00pm for round robin play. There will be a fun, social event, called the Mixed Doubles Sip & Serve August 11th at 6:00pm. This event is a social event and is meant for couples to come together to enjoy playing tennis with other couples. Afterwards or in between rounds of tennis, there will be hors d' oeuvres and beverages. The last day of Cardio Tennis will be August 10th. TASTY NOTES CHEF STEPHEN HURD Lobster Week is here! The week of August 7th 10th we will be featuring LOBSTER! I will be flying in fresh Maine lobsters and preparing it various ways throughout the week for you to try. Lobster bisque will be available all week along with lobster rolls at lunch and lobster mac and cheese at dinner. Other specials to include a lobster surf and turf and lobster stuffed tails on Friday. Man! The summer seems to fly by here at the club so fast. Our Fourth of July celebration and Member Guest were both well attended and everyone seemed to enjoy the food and fun. Hopefully by now you have had a chance to try something from the summer menu or one of our farm fresh specials during the week. Choosing local and farm fresh products during the summer is a great way for us to support the local farmers and bring fresh and delicious menu items to you. Our Wine Dinners continue to be a success! Marc Mondavi was here last month and what a treat that was! His stories and wines were fabulous and he even signed a few bottles. If you still have not joined us for one of these incredible experiences, please do. Our next Wine Dinner will be in late September. I have been pleased to receive such positive comments about the food and service throughout the club. As always, the culinary team works long and hard to provide the best food and dining experience in Peoria. So, enjoy and let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome Let s get cooking! We will also have a Pickle Ball intro on August 24th beginning at 6:00 pm. We will have half hour lessons followed by round robin play. There will also be hors d' oeuvres and beverages. The high temps and humidity of the past few months were hard on the turf, maintenance staff and turf managers alike.

Fortunately, we have a dedicated and experienced staff that care for the course so for the most part we held our own. August 15th is a date that turf managers look for on the calendar.

August is bittersweet for our department. The weather starts to cooperate for turf recovery but we see our seasonal staff students leave and return to school.

3 CLUB ATHLETICS FROM TEE TO GREEN BY ANDY MORRIS Well August is here and for turf managers across the Midwest it is a welcomed event. It has been one of the tougher seasons in quite a while to grow cool season grasses in the Midwest. The high temps and humidity of the past few months were hard on the turf, maintenance staff and turf managers alike will go down as a year to remember and one that hopefully won t be repeated anytime soon. The weather brought on disease pressure that was extremely high and put a lot of stress on the turf. Fortunately, we have a dedicated and experienced staff that care for the course so for the most part we held our own. August 15th is a date that turf managers look for on the calendar. Days start to get shorter so heat cannot build like it does in July and early August. Night time temperatures usually become lower and the turf gets some well needed and deserved time to recover. August is bittersweet for our department. The weather starts to cooperate for turf recovery but we see our seasonal staff students leave and return to school. This year we had students from ICC, Eureka College and Wisconsin Concordia on staff. It is a true pleasure to work with these students and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming school year. A special thanks to our two interns, Tyler Inselmann and Andrej Buchko. These two young men spent a lot of weekend afternoons and countless hours with a hose in their hand keeping the turf alive through some brutal conditions. Thanks for the effort guys and thanks to all our student team members. Hopefully we will see some of them return this next year! Best of luck. The course has seen a lot of play this season and we have noticed a few things that need member attention. First, ball mark repair on the greens. We are seeing an unacceptable number of ball marks that are unrepaired. It is every player s responsibility to properly repair their ball marks when they are on the putting green. It is a common courtesy to fellow players and helps keep your greens in good shape throughout the season. If we all work together we can keep the greens in great shape for all our members and their guests to enjoy. The proper technique to repair a ball mark is to gently turn/twist your tool around the outside edge of the ball mark gently working the turf back toward the center. Gently tamp down the repair and that is it. There is no prying or lifting technique to ball mark repair as this only separates the turf from its roots and causes a small dead spot on the green. Please use proper technique to repair your ball marks and if you have any questions ask a staff member for clarification. Your attention in this area will help tremendously and is much appreciated. Secondly, divot replacement in the fairways. Please remember to replace your divots in the fairways and firmly step them down. Simply tossing the divot back in the void doesn t do it. You must firmly step it down. If a divot is replaced it has some percentage of a chance for recovery and one that is not replaced has a 0% chance for recovery. Please replace your fairway divots. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here they are, one repaired and one not repaired. A little effort in this area will go a long way and again, it is only going to help keep the course in good shape. As always, your assistance is very much appreciated! July gave us that hot, humid weather and hopefully we can get away from that in August. It won t be long and we will be talking fall and enjoying some cooler temperatures. The course is always in some of its best shape of the year in late August and early September so don t put the clubs away just yet. We also have the Member/ Member outing in September so get signed up for that one. Scott and his staff are putting together a great event and you won t want to miss it! See You On The Course! This year s theme will be a tailgate style event with a similar set up as this year s Grandview, including the tent in the parking lot!

4 CLUB ATHLETICS FROM THE GOLF SHOP BY SCOTT BROWNFIELD As the end of the summer becomes a reality, I would like to wish all our Junior Golfers and Families good luck as they enter into their respective golf seasons. The hard work they have put in over the summer will pay off as they represent their colors. We currently have four division one college players, fifteen juniors in the high school ranks, and close to twenty juniors who will represent their middle schools (grades 5 8). Thank you to the membership of the Country Club of Peoria for giving our juniors the opportunity/ resources to improve their games. The 2018 Men s Member/Member tournament (also known as The 1897 ) will take place on Saturday, September 15th. This event is taking the place of The Grandview Invitational date in previous years. The 27 hole format will consist of a 9 hole scramble, 9 hole better ball of partners, and finally a 9 hole alternate shot. This year s theme will be a tailgate style event with a similar set up as this year s Grandview, including the tent in the parking lot! The event will be piggybacked with tailgate festivities for the entire membership. Be on the lookout for additional details as the September 15th date approaches.
