Palmer Race 1: Cooktown Amateur Turf QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap metres 1st HOT SAGA 2nd SCOT FREE 3rd SHEKOU 4th - HE'S A LADIES MAN SHEKOU (R. Thompson), STANDFORD, and HOT SAGA (D. Simmons) were all slow into stride. DRAGON SIGN (App. N. Yadi) began awkwardly and lost ground. In the home straight DRAGON SIGN raced greenly and shifted out under pressure. Stewards questioned App. S. Wiseman as to her riding of SHE'S A LADIES MAN from a point approaching the 600 metres until the conclusion of the event. App. Wiseman advised that she was inconvenienced as a result of attempting to avoid a fallen rider near the 1000 metres and from that point SHE'S A LADIES MAN dropped the bit and failed to travel as strongly as it had done in the early stages of the event. App. Wiseman added that for that reason she elected to shift her mount to the inside approaching the home turn, in an endeavour to save ground rather than improve to the outside of other runners in the home straight. App. Wiseman said that she was able to secure clear running in the early part of the home straight, however SHEKOU shifted in abruptly in front of her near the 300 metres and from that point had difficulty obtaining clear running to the inside of that horse for the remainder of the home straight. Stewards further questioned App. Wiseman as to whether there was an opportunity to shift SHE'S A LADIES MAN to the outside of the heels of SHEKOU near the 200 metres, which would have afforded her clear running for the remainder of the event. App. Wiseman stated that after reviewing the films on a number of occasions, in hindsight it may have been the better option to have attempted to shift HE'S A LADIES MAN to the outside of the heels of SHEKOU. Stewards advised that, whilst her riding of HE'S A LADIES MAN was not unreasonable, they felt that she had erred in not committing herself to shift to the outside of SHEKOU near the 200 metres. Bearing in mind App. Wiseman's relative inexperience, no further action was taken. Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for Jockey W. D'Avila (KANA AKA) and App. B. Swaffer (STANFORD) being dislodged from their mounts leaving the 1000 metres. After takng evidence from all riders engaged in the race, with the exception of W. D'Avila who was taken to hospital for observation, and Jockey C. Whiteley (SCOT FREE), stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed. Both riders were examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil their engagements. However, App. Swaffer subsequently became indisposed and was taken to hospital for observation and Jockey D'Avila

2 was stood down after riding DIVINE LUCK in Race 4. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. A post-race veterinary examination of SHEKOU at the request of trainer J. Ryan revealed that SHEKOU was lame in the near hind leg. Trainer J. Ryan will be advised that she must furnish a veterinary clearance prior to SHEKOU being permitted to race again. Near the 1000 metres SHEKOU (R. Thompson) was momentarily forced to steady to avoid a fallen rider, and leaving the 1000 metres HE'S A LADIES MAN was inconvenienced and forced wider on the track to avoid a fallen rider. Race 2: East Coast Traffic Controllers Class 1 Handicap metres 1st SALSBEEL 2nd HETTY 3rd BONGIORNO 4th - SAVE THE PLANET After being dislodged from his mount in race 1, App. B. Swaffer was examined by the Ambulance Officers and cleared to fulfil his engagement on LA LIONESSE. ZAHA ROYALE (C. Whiteley) and SPURLANA (M. Elliott) were slow to begin. From the 600 metres until early in the home straight BONGIORNO (L. Smith), which was travelling strongly, was unable to obtain clear running and was forced to steady to avoid the heels of runners in front. For the majority of the event SPURLANA and DANE WILL DO (G. Kliese) raced wide. Rounding the home turn ASSEMBLY hung out. Rounding the home turn CASHED UP BULLY (J. P. Stanley) was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Jockey J. Dickinson reported that ASSEMBLY was inclined to lay out under pressure rounding the home turn and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding. When asked about the performance of ASSEMBLY trainer P. Ryan said that though ASSEMBLY had a tongue-tie, it managed to get its tongue over the bit and choked down. Stewards had intended to have a post-race veterinary examination of ASSEMBLY carried out, however the gelding had left the course prior to having that examination carried out. Stewards will interview trainer Ryan as to why the horse left the course prior to the prescribed time. Race 3: Alsco Linen Class 3 Handicap metres 1st BESIEGED 2nd ARCATRAN 3rd ROBBERS ROOST 4th - EREBUS THIRTY THREE LARGE (N. Yadi) made heavy contact with the enclosure gate when entering onto the track, was examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. ROBBERS ROOST (F. Edwards) blundered at the start when inconvenienced by MISS EMMY LOU (App. E. Ljung), which began awkwardly and shifted in. ROBBERS ROOST then over-raced in the middle stages. Jockey F. Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 400 metres he permitted ROBBERS ROOST to shift in when insufficiently clear of THIRTY THREE LARGE (App. N.Yadi), which was tightened for room and forced to check. BOOM SHA LA (D. Simmons), which was following was also forced to check. Jockey Edwards was suspended from riding in races for a period covering 3 meetings, to commence at midnight 11th August 2013, up to and including midnight on 23rd August Stewards noted the explanation tendered by Jockey R. Thompson in relation to his failure to ride HEZA RICHES out with his full vigour over the concluding stages of the event. Race 4: Cairns Post BenchMark 70 Handicap Metres 1st - BOB AND DOLLY 2nd MOHTASHEM 3rd - DIVINE LUCK 4th - BOLD TROJAN From rounding the home turn until near the 150 metres BOLD TROJAN (D. Hayse) was held up on the heels of DESPERATE WOMAN (App. E. Ljung) and unable to obtain clear running. COMMANCHE WARRIOR (R. Thompson) and BOB AND DOLLY (App. S.Wiseman) raced wide

3 throughout. On returning to scale Jockey R. Thompson advised that, apart from COMMANCHE WARRIOR racing wide for the majority of the event, he was unable to explain the disappointing performance of the gelding today. A post-race veterinary examination of COMMANCHE WARRIOR did not reveal any abnormalities. After riding LITTLE DUCATI in this race, Jockey W. D'Avila was again examined by the Ambulance Officers and was stood down from his further engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Race 5: Cairns Steel Vic Tonkin Memorial Class 6 Plate metres 1st SECRET STEALTH 2nd - DAILIKA 3rd DAHARA PRIZE 4th - BOLT FROM THE BLUE When App. B. Swaffer became indisposed, stewards acceded to a request by trainer D. Symons to allow Jockey D.Simmons to replace him as the rider of HEROIC ACTION. At the request of Jockey R. Thompson, ANGELINA was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon on the way to the barriers. At the time of this examination ANGELINA was found to be noticeably lame in the off foreleg. Acting on the advice of the veterinary surgeon, stewards ordered the withdrawal of the mare at 2.38 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on ANGELINA be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply 7 in the dollar for the win for the winner, SECRET STEALTH 12 in the dollar for the place for the winner, SECRET STEALTH 15 in the dollar for the place for 2nd, DAILIKA 15 in the dollar for the place for 3rd, DAHARA PRIZE SECRET STEALTH (G. Kliese) began awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 1000 metres DAPH N' ALF (I. Toward), which was racing keenly, improved onto the heels of HEROIC ACTION (D. Simmons) and shifted out, taking DAILIKA (J. Kuskopf) wider. WHY NOT NOW (C. Whiteley) was slow to begin. DAPH N' ALF hung out rounding the home turn. BOLT FROM THE BLUE (App. N. Yadi) raced wide throughout. Stewards questioned jockey I. Toward in relation to the performance of DAPH N' ALF. Jockey Toward advised that after beginning well he intended to obtain a forward position, in accordance with its customary racing pattern. However, after being caught wide early, he elected to restrain the gelding and take a trailing position behind HEROIC ACTION just off the speed. Jockey Toward added that from this point the pace of the race slackened, resulting in DAPH N' ALF over-racing on the heels of HEROIC ACTION for a considerable distance. Jockey Toward added further that in the home straight the gelding ran on fairly, however he was somewhat disappointed with the performance. Jockey Toward noted that the manner in which the race was run did not suit DAPH N' ALF's normal racing pattern. A post-race veterinary examination of DAPH N' ALF did not reveal any abnormalities. Race 6: Mark Dodge Volvo Cars Cairns Class 2 Handicap metres 1st ZIGURAT 2nd ROJO BUZZ 3rd PEMBERTON 4th - EXCEEDED ROPABLE (App. E. Ljung) began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with PEMBERTON (R. Thompson), which in turn shifted in and made contact with ZIGURAT (S. Kaya). Near the 700 metres WRONG NUMBER (C. Whiteley) improved onto the heels of EXCEEDED (J.P. Stanley) and was forced to steady. Leaving the 200 metres DIAMOND BILL (I. Toward) was disappointed for a run between WRONG NUMBER and EXCEEDED, both of which shifted ground. Near the 150 metres SPECIAL CREDIT (App. J. Kuskopf) was forced to ease when attempting a run between DIAMOND BILL and VAULTING QUEEN (M. Elliott), both of which shifted ground marginally. DIVA DIOR (C. McCallum) raced wide throughout.

4 On returning to scale Jockey C. McCallum reported that in his opinion DIVA DIOR was exhibiting a respiratory complaint, and as such he eased the mare down over the concluding stages of the event. Stewards will interview trainer A. Bailey in relation to the performance of DIVA DIOR at a later date. Race 7: Babinda Electrics Newmarket Open Handicap metres 1st LADRETTO 2nd COUNTERIZE 3rd MIGHTY MITE 4th - SHADOW BUSTER 5th - MOROSSA The start was delayed when OUR PRIVATE JET (C. McCallum) was required to be re-saddled at the barriers. At the start DIAMONDCOWBOY (T. Bannon) was tightened for room between MIGHTY MITE (D. Hayse) and PANECILLO (F. Edwards), which shifted out. Over the concluding stages SAFARI (D. Simmons) improved onto the heels of the tiring CHEVAL ARGENTE (T. Thompson) and was forced to steady. RATTUS CONATUS (C. Whiteley) and CARAVAN SANG (J. Dickinson) raced wide throughout. Race 8: Brothers Cairns Cup Open Handicap metres 1st MORE MORE MORE 2nd SARBI 3rd COMMON OBJECTIVE 4th - SEAFIGHT 5th - BEEBEESDUEL SEAFIGHT (R.Thompson) was slow to begin. PEPPERED BLACK (F. Edwards) began awkwardly. In the early stages SARBI (T. Bannon) raced ungenerously whilst being restrained. Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred near the 500 metres where MOB RULE (M. Elliott) was tightened for room and lost ground. After taking evidence from Jockeys Edwards (PEPPERED BLACK), D. Simmons (DAMASHQUI) and T. Bannon (SARBI), and App. S. Wiseman, (RELEASED), stewards determined that RELEASED shifted in at that stage when not completely clear, tightening the runners to her inside.. App. Wiseman was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. On returning to scale Jockey F. Edwards advised that after being tightened for room near the 500 metres PEPPERED BLACK came off the bit and ran on only fairly from that point onwards and was somewhat disappointing. Jockey Edwards added that in his opinion PEPPERED BLACK may not have run out a strong 2100 metres.
