1 Weather: Fine. Track: Good (3). Rail: True. STEWARDS REPORT Coonamble Jockey Club COONAMBLE RACECOURSE Sunday 24 th June 2018 STEWARDS: S.P. Fitzgerald (Chairman), I.H. Grimes & C.N. Pringle. Race 1: 2YO Handicap 1200m: The starting time of this event was amended to 12.43pm due to rider P. Graham being injured in the pre-parade. Cosby bumped heavily on jumping by Miss Lon, which was taken in by A Krupt Pick; lost ground as a result. Bedtime Stories when questioned, rider M. Paget stated his mount, which had blinkers applied today as it raced very greenly at is most recent race start at Dubbo on Friday 1th June 2018, was slow to begin today. He added in his opinion Bedtime Stories is field shy when racing near or in amongst runners and consequently it hung throughout the event. He added Bedtime Stories laid out under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride. Trainer Mr. D. Hyde advised Bedtime Stories would now be spelled and was advised by Stewards the filly would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again; a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Isaac s Kolt when being paraded, rider P. Graham was dislodged and sustained an injury to his neck and/or shoulder. As a consequence, the starting time of this race was delayed as P. Graham was attended to by the Ambulance officers. Ultimately, P. Graham was stood down from his remaining engagements and was replaced by J. Rogers in this event. Isaac s Kolt was a late withdrawal at 12.36pm when the gelding reared and dislodged J. Rogers. Stewards ordered all monies wagered on Isaac s Kolt be refunded in full and all successful wagers placed with bookmakers prior to 12.36pm be subject to the following deductions in the dollar on the face value of the ticket: First: Artful Wordsmith less 0 cents win and 5 cents place; Second: Huey less 1 cent place; and Third: Miss Lon less 3 cents place. Trainer Mr. D. Lunn was advised a warning would be recorded against Isaac s Kolt. Miss Lon shifted out across the heels of Huey near the 200m to improve into clear running; was placed in restricted room over the final stages to the inside of Artful Wordsmith. Opening Stanza Trainer Mr. M. Griffith advised it was his intention to instruct rider J. Oliver not to use the whip as the filly resented its use in a trial at Scone on Wednesday 13 th June When questioned regarding his use of the whip in the straight, rider J. Oliver stated he used the whip down the shoulder on several occasions in the straight as he was of the opinion the filly resented its use behind the saddle. He added he used the whip as he was of the opinion his mount required it however when he used the whip down the shoulder, Opening Stanza resented its use. Shesabitfoolish overraced in the early stages. Artful Wordsmith bumped heavily by Miss Lon near the 200m when that runner was being shifted out to improve.

2 Race 2: Maiden Handicap 1200m: The starting time of this race was amended to 1.15pm. Morotai crowded on jumping; hung out throughout and proved difficult to ride; hung out rounding the home turn; laid out abruptly near the 100m and hampered Danspur; Stable representative Mr. B. Thompson was advised a warning would be recorded against Morotai, which hung out and raced very greenly. Mochine Gun slow to begin; bumped heavily shortly after the start with Thorn Lass. Alexandra Demure crowded on jumping. Silent Oath raced wide throughout. Brighter Days late withdrawal at 8.15am. Thorn Lass J. Oliver replaced Ms. C. Van Der Werf (injured Quirindi 23 rd June 2018). Future Road raced wide throughout. See for Yourself hung out from the 500m and rounding the home turn. Knight s Honour jumped awkwardly (2L); overraced in the early stages; held up for clear running in the early part of the straight; an inquiry was opened into App. M. Nakao s handling of Knight s Honour in this event. Evidence was taken from App. M. Nakao, her master Trainer Mr. G. Nielsen and Trainer of Knight s Honour Mr. P. Pennell. Stewards adjourned the inquiry so they could further investigate the race in its entirety, including wagering activity from all operators, including the Betfair exchange as well as Knight s Honours previous race starts. Danspur steadied near the 800m when Morotai hung out, taking I m On The Prowl out onto Danspur. Race 3: Class 1 Handicap (Colts, Geldings & Entires) 1300m: Forsox change of tactics: to lead if possible; slow to begin, settled back; when questioned, rider J. Hull said his mount began awkwardly and missed the start a short distance. He added he rode his mount forward in the early stages in compliance with the change of tactics however he was beaten for speed and when it became apparent he would not be able to obtain a forward position, he settled in a rearward position and much further back than intended. Tennessee Man laid in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride. More Than Magico when questioned, rider App. Ms. W. Peel stated on straightening, she endeavoured to improve into a run between Grove Street and Tennessee Man (App. Ms. C. Dougherty) when there was room to do so. She added a short distance later, Tennessee Man shifted in and her mount was disappointed for that run whereby she was obliged to shift out across the heels of that runner to continue into clear running. App. Ms. C. Dougherty was reprimanded (AR137(a)). Rawson Crossing slow to begin; overraced in the early stages. Jawsome crowded shortly after the start; raced wide throughout. Myambla shifted out across the heels of Baker s Image near the 300m to continue into clear running. Irish Spy raced wide throughout; hung out rounding the home turn and hampered Dharamsala.

3 Race 4: Class 1 Handicap (Fillies & Mares) 1300m: Fudgewedge raced wide throughout; laid out under pressure in the straight. Press Review laid in near the heels of Summer Surf near the 200m and was steadied. Tirone Miss J. Hull replaced P. Graham (injured); slow to begin; on return to scale, an objection was lodged by J. Hull, rider of the fourth placegetter Tirone Miss against Press Review being declared the third placegetter, alleging interference near the 450m. After viewing the official Stewards patrol footage and taking evidence from all parties concerned, it was established near the 450m, Tirone Miss was checked when Press Review (M. Paget) shifted in when not clear. Bearing in mind the margin of a nose and the manner in which both runners found the line, Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not occurred, Tirone Miss would have finished ahead of Press Review and the objection was upheld and the placings amended to: First: Crim; Second: Onya Rosie; Third: Tirone Miss; Fourth: Press Review. At a subsequent inquiry, M. Paget, rider of Press Review pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that near the 450m, he did make insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, which resulted in Tirone Miss being checked and losing its running. M. Paget s license to ride in raced was suspended for a period to commence on Saturday 30 th June 2018 and to expire on Thursday 5 th July 2018 on which day he may ride. This penalty was mitigated by the low level of carelessness on behalf of M. Paget and the racing manners of Press Review, which was laying in. Crim when questioned regarding the improved performance of Crim, Trainer Mr. C. Crockett advised after the mare s very disappointing last start at Coonamble on Saturday 2 nd June 2018, he had his stable veterinarian undertake a thorough examination of the mare, which did not reveal any abnormalities. He then elected to give Crim a very easy week thereafter and as a result of that freshen up, the mare picked up and gave him the impression that it would perform well based on its work. He added Crim may also be a horse that needs to lead in its races and he instructed rider J. Pracey-Holmes to do so and as a consequence Crim performed well today. Trainer Mr. C. Crockett was reminded of his obligations to advise Stewards of any changes in tactics should he intend to have his runners ridden in a manner different than in recent starts. Stars And Stripes slow to begin; near the 200m, was shifted in across the heels of Say Madam to continue into clear running; near the 100m, improved onto the heels of the weakening Black Comedy and was steadied and shifted in to continue into clear running. Onya Rosie overraced in the early and middle stages. Miss Pistolaro raced wide throughout. Lily s Little Girl slow to begin. Trajectory raced very wide throughout; hung out near the 500m. Race 5: Maiden Plate 1600m: Sorry I m Awesome crowded on jumping; checked near the 500m after improving onto the heels of Rose Spectacular and shifted out, bumping heavily with She s a Joka. The Naked Truth when questioned, rider A. Bullock stated his mount was obliged to race wide throughout and never travelled and in his opinion the gelding has come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mr. M. Griffith advised The Naked Truth would now be spelled; a postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities.

4 Bansuri Trainer Ms. K. Kennedy was fined $50 (AR59A) for failing to produce the TIC for Bansuri; slow to begin; rider J. Pracey-Holmes dropped his whip near the 300m. Brave Maddie J. Hull replaced Ms. C. Van Der Werf (injured Quirindi 23 rd June 2018); J. Hull will be interviewed relative to his use of the whip in the straight. Exquisite Halo M. Paget replaced P. Graham (injured). Rose Spectacular the saddle shifted forward badly during the middle stages, resulting in rider Ms. K. Chater being at a severe disadvantage for the remainder of the event and not being able to place the mare under pressure at any stage. Rose Spectacular completed a second lap of the course and to avoid undue delay to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards, acting under AR142 declared correct weight without Ms. K. Chater weighing in. Big George raced at Talmoi on Saturday 23 rd June 2018; underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start; Stewards viewed the official patrol footage to determine whether Big George was afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage, it was established when the start was effected, Big George turned its head into the adjoining stall, reared slightly and became cast and consequently took no competitive part in the event. When Stewards were satisfied Big George was afforded a fair start, correct weight was declared. Trainer Mr. B. Dixon was advised Big George would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Race 6: Benchmark 60 Handicap 1600m: Spinning Gold when questioned, rider J. Hull stated in his opinion Spinning Gold never travelled on the firm going at any stage of the event. He added it was discovered post-race that the tongue tie that was applied to Spinning Gold had come loose and had fallen off during the event and the gelding had consequently got its tongue over the bit; a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Pellegrina when questioned, rider App. Ms. W. Peel stated her mount was caught wide throughout the event and never travelled at any stage. She added her mount failed to muster sufficient early speed to take up a desired forward position and ultimately settled mid field and wide. She added in her opinion Pellegrina would perform better with blinkers reapplied; a postrace veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Quietly Confident slow to begin. Apache Lad slow to begin. Flying Comet slow to begin; a post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury to the off fore suspensory ligament. Trainer Mr. L. Kennedy advised he would have the injury investigated further and report to the Stewards on the condition of Flying Comet. Corry Bridge raced wide throughout; a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 7: Coonamble Cannonball 1100m: Love Me Baby J. Hull replaced P. Graham (injured). Brotherly Secret when questioned, rider M. Paget stated his mount was unable to muster sufficient early speed to take up a handy position and consequently settled further back than he had intended with the fast tempo. He added on straightening, he endeavoured to improve into a run to the inside of Zoutenant (K. Dunbar), which shifted in and his mount was disappointed for that run and became held up for a short distance. He added thereafter when he obtained clear running, his mount grinded out the final stages of the event and found the line fairly. K. Dunbar was advised to exercise more care. Kenny Succeed laid out over the final 50m.

5 Lucienne jumped awkwardly. Vonnida raced wide throughout. Race 8: Class 3 Handicap 1100m: Rastafarian when questioned, rider J. Hull stated he was obliged to constantly encourage his mount throughout the event and it offered little improvement in the straight and was most disappointing; a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer Mr. D. Lane advised in his opinion Rastafarian may not have handled the quick back up from its most recent race start at Kembla Grange on Saturday 16 th June 2018, which was on rain affected going. He added consequently, Rastafarian raced a bit flat and it would now be his intention to freshen up the gelding. Leica s Lass late withdrawal at 8.15am. Mr Swift hampered near the 750m when racing tight to the inside of Rastafarian, which itself was racing tight to the inside of Pedro s Zariz, which shifted in negligibly. Minamahal near the 200m, was disappointed for a run between Harbour Trick, which laid in slightly and Party Bag; Minamahal then became held up for a some distance before being obliged to shift out across heels to continue into clear running. A Martin Placepick prior to the declaration of correct weight, rider G. Ryan viewed the official patrol footage to determine whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against the winner, Harbour Trick. When G. Ryan established there were not sufficient grounds to lodge an objection and Stewards were similarly satisfied, correct weight was declared; near the 800m, was badly bumped with Mr. Swift, which was taken in by Party Bag (J. Kehoe), which shifted in when not clear. J. Kehoe was reprimanded (AR137(a)). Pedro s Zariz slow to begin; raced wide throughout; had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 200m and 50m when held up on the heels of Minamahal. Party Bag raced tight with Tattinger for some distance near the 100m. Awild Enemy s Pick hampered near the 100m. Summary of whip use: Stewards noted the following riders exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m under AR137A(5)(a)(ii): Race 2: A. Cavallo 8 times prior to 100m. Race 2: App. W. Peel 6 times prior to 100m. Race 4: App. W. Peel 6 times prior to 100m. Bearing in mind the totality of whip use, no action was taken General: Trainer Mr. J. Stanley was fined $100 (LR35) for the late declaration of riders M. Paget (Silent Oath race two) and J. Kehoe (Party Bag race eight). Trainer Mr. B. Cavanough was fined $200 (LR36) for the late withdrawal of Brighter Days (race two) and Leica Lass (race eight). Samples were obtained from all winners.
