5 RULES 1. That the Society shall be called the Gargrave Agricultural and Horticultural Society Ltd. having for its objects the encouragement of Agriculture and Horticulture in the Parish of Gargrave by means of an Annual Show. 2. That the Officers of the Society shall consist of President, Vice-Presidents, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Committee. The officers to be elected annually at the General Meeting. 3. That the Society shall be supported by Donations and Annual Subscriptions. A Vice-President s Subscription to be entitled to an invitation to the Show Luncheon, one Car Park Ticket and the use of the Vice-Presidents Marquee on the Showfield. Additional lunch tickets may be bought for Vice-Presidents partners or guests. 4. All entry forms and fees, unless otherwise stated, to reach the Entries Secretary by the closing date. Any received after that will be declined. All Classes to be distinctly specified, and all entries to be made on an entry form to be obtained from the Entries Secretary or downloaded from the website. All entry fees must be paid at the time of entries being made. All horticultural, produce and handicraft exhibits to be staged by 9.30 a.m.entries under 5 will not be returned in the event of cancellation. 5. That no one be allowed in the tents except the President, Secretary, Stewards and Judges, during the examination of Horticultural, Handicraft and Poultry Exhibits. 6. That no Exhibit or Prize Card be removed from the Show until 4.00 p.m., except with the consent of the Chief Steward. 7. That the decision of the Judges shall be final. 8. All exhibits must be the bona-fide property of the Exhibitor. Any prize fraudulently obtained will be forfeited, and awarded to the prize holder immediately succeeding in that class. 9. Any objection must be placed before the Secretary before 3 p.m. Deposit 5. If the objection is not upheld this sum will be forfeited. 10. Exhibitors will be issued with the number of the Class they exhibit in, and their exhibition number. All exhibits will be at owner s risk. 11. The Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any stock or exhibit on exhibition. All exhibits must be under proper supervision by the Exhibitor. All exhibitors of livestock and vintage vehicles must have adequate Public Liability Insurance. 12. All exhibitors to ensure that stock is properly brought into the ring when the class is called forward. 13. All prize money will be paid out on the field. 14. LOCAL CLASSES FOR FELL RACE: Local Area includes Gargrave, Coniston Cold, Bell Busk, Bank Newton, Broughton, Eshton, Winterburn, Flasby and Stirton-with-Thorlby. 15. When admission tickets are sent to individual adult competitors, or in the case of child competitors (in equine and livestock classes only), an extra ticket for an accompanying adult will be sent. All other passengers should pay in full. However, admission tickets at a reduced price may be applied for in advance of Show Day. By entering classes in the Show, the competitor accepts the rules and conditions, failure to comply with these conditions will result in disqualification from the Show. 16. Competitors in all the equine classes, take part entirely at their own risk and must have adequate Public Liability Insurance. It is compulsory for riding hats (to be standard PAS 015 and above) to be worn with chin straps/safety harness to be fastened at all times when mounted. 3

At the time of this schedule going to press, the following APHA rules apply to the Showfield: An Agricultural Show can be declared as Exempt from Requirements for Pre-Movement Testing if the following conditions are adhered to: (a) No cattle will be held on the showgrounds for 24 hours or more from the time of arrival of the first cattle at the showground. (b) No cattle are to be housed, i.e. in a covered area with sides this includes marquees. We are assured, however, that if the sides of the marquee are removed allowing free circulation of air then the exemption rules will apply. We therefore intend to apply for exemption from Pre-Movement Testing for TB for all cattle attending the Show. In order to comply with the 24 hour requirement we will not allow cattle on the Showfield until the morning of the Show, i.e. Saturday, 18th August It is worth stressing that no cattle are kept or grazed on the Showfield other than on Show Day. Biosecurity measures must be strictly adhered to, i.e. clean vehicles, handlers clothing and footwear. Animal Plant & Health Agency Leed Office Fax

9 DAIRY CATTLE SECTION (CHIEF STEWARD: JIMMY FITTON ) JUDGING STARTS AT a.m. The Championship will be judged when all four sections have completed Judging. If above 15 Cattle forward, the Class will be split at the discretion of the Steward. All Class winners must parade in the Grand Parade. Own milking units can be brought if desired. THE CONISTON HOTEL DAIRY CHAMPIONSHIP Supreme Dairy Champion: 100 Reserve Dairy Champion: 50 REGISTERED HOLSTEIN CATTLE ONLY Cattle in these classes eligible to compete for Cups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Prize Money: 1st 25; 2nd 15; 3rd 10. Champion Registered Holstein Friesian 20 Reserve Holstein Friesian 10 Entry Fee 5. Class CH1 Heifer, born on or after April 1st, Class CH2 Heifer in calf. Class CH3 Cow in calf, not less than 5 (five) months in calf. Class CH4 Heifer in milk, born on or after January 1st, Class CH5 Cow in milk. Class CH6 Group of 3 (three) Female Animals, exhibited by one owner. Class CH7 Pair, same sire. Class CH8 Cow or Heifer, bred by the exhibitor. All entries in Classes 1-8 are restricted to animals entered in the Herd Book proper, or in Classes B or C of the Supplementary Register and exhibited by the registered owner who is a member of H.F.A. The H.F.S. offers a Championship Award Rosette, prize card and tie to the exhibitor of the Female Champion. The Reserve Champion will receive a rosette and prize card. CALF HANDLING Judging: 50% handling, 50% conformation. To be shown by an under 17-year-old. Prize Money: 1st 5; 2nd 4; 3rd 3 and will receive a Rosette. Entry Fee: 1. Class CH9 Heifer Calf, born and after. To be judged after Class CH1. 7

Class CA13 Cow in milk. Class CA14 Group of 3 (three) female animals to be exhibited by one owner. Plus a rosette from the A.C.S. Class CA15 Pair, same sire or dam. Class CA16 Cow or Heifer, bred by the exhibitor. Breed Champion Award presented to the owner of the Champion Ayrshire by Ayrshire Cattle Society. CALF HANDLING Judging: 50% conformation, 50% handling. To be shown by an under 17-year-old. Prize Money: 1st 5; 2nd 4; 3rd 3. Entry Fee: 1. Class CA17 Ayrshire Heifer Calf, born 2017 and after. To be judged after Class CA10. JERSEY CATTLE ONLY 20 for the Champion Jersey and 10 for the Reserve Champion. Cattle in these classes eligible to compete for Cups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 16 and 17. The Jersey Cattle Society offers a special rosette and prize card for the best Jersey, registered in the Herd Book, bred by the exhibitor who is a member of the J.C.S. Prize Money: 1st 25; 2nd 15; 3rd 10. Entry Fee: 5. Class CJ18 Maiden Heifer, with all calf teeth. Class CJ19 Cow in calf or Heifer in calf. Class CJ20 Heifer in milk. Class CJ21 Cow in milk. Cattle in these Classes eligible for Cups 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 18 and 19. N. E. SHORTHORN BREEDERS ASSOCIATION POINTS COMPETITION. Prize winners in the Shorthorn Classes are eligible to compete in this competition. Points will be awarded: 1st 5; 2nd 3; 3rd 2; 4th 1, and the owner gaining the highest total at the end of the Show Season will be awarded the N.E.S.B.A. Prize. Entry Fee: 2 Entries inside a clear plastic bag, please Class FC50 Sample of Hay (cob or slice). Class FC51 Sample of Clamp Silage. Class FC52 Sample of Big Bale Silage. DEFRA ANIMAL GATHERING ORDER Please remember the movement restrictions of Cattle and Sheep. Six-day movement restrictions apply to Gargrave Show. Farmers must watch the Press for all the ongoing changes in animal movement legislation. BIOSECURITY ON THE SHOWFIELD All livestock must leave home in a clean vehicle and if the livestock are returning home in the same vehicle they DO NOT need to C&D the vehicle on the showfield but MUST C&D the vehicle within 24 hours of returning home. Hand washing and footbaths will be provided at the livestock entrances on the Showfield. Please ensure all livestock handlers have clean outer garments and footwear when walking outside the livestock area on the Showfield. LET US ALL KEEP CLEAN AND DISEASE FREE 11

The Bob Newby Cup for Champion Male Texel. Silver Jubilee Cup, presented by R. F. Caton, Esq; for the Best Mule. Silver Jubilee Cup, presented by K. H. Throup and Sons for best Half-bred Masham. Class PAB56 Gentlemen only Any Home-made Item. 12oz/340g 4oz/110g 6oz/175g 4oz/110g 2oz/50g Method TREACLE TART Set Recipe Shortcrust Pastry Sultanas Grated Cooking Apple Rind and juice of Half a Lemon Golden Syrup Brown Breadcrumbs Grease an 8 inch (20cm) round flat tin and then roll out the pastry onto a floured surface. Use about two-thirds of the pastry to line the flan tin and keep the trimmings. Mix together the sultanas, grated apple, lemon juice and rind, breadcrumbs and syrup, and spread over the pastry base. Use the rest of the pastry, cut into thin strips, to make a lattice topping, fastening the ends to the edge of the pastry base with a dab of water to help it stick. Bake in a pre-heated oven at Gas 7, 210C, 425F for 10 minutes then, turn the oven down to Gas 4, 180C, 350F, for another 20 minutes.
