2 WILLHOME HERD The Willhome black and white herd was established in the mid seventies by grading up the original commercial cows with a few purchases from leading herds 1999 saw the introduction of Ayrshire s and from this the Willhome name became more recognised throughout the country. The herd is mainly grass based by grazing through the summer and winter feed includes grass silage, a blend and topped up in the parlour. Current average yields are:- Ayrshire s % B/F 3.38% ptn Holsteins % B/F 3.24% ptn Herd numbers have grown and by today have reached saturation point with over 450 head being run on 250 acres and so it has been decided to have a reduction sale with this group of autumn calvers and a selection of young stock. The Ayrshire s section includes 3 well bred young bulls which should breed well in any herd, as they are bred from the heart of the Willhome show team. Many successes have been gained by both breeds at local and national herd competitions and shows. The most noticeable success have been Supreme Heifer at the Welsh Dairy Show 2009, Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh Show 2012 and this culminated in the herd being presented the Ayrshire Cattle Society Premier Breeder Exhibitor Award in Thank you for your support and we hope our consignments to on and do well for all purchasers. 3 CARWYN HERD The Griffiths family have decided to reduce a portion of their stock as cow numbers have increased from 80 to 130 with young stock levels accumulation from a flush of heifer calves. For generations we have been breeding for the right type of cow which is a robust cow with a deep body, well sprung rib and high and wide rear udder with a strong fore udder attachment and excellent legs and feet. After taking up the decision to start showing in 2008 the Carwyn herd has done very well in the show ring with lots of 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd prizes with greatest success of winning Champion at Clunderwen show in 2010 with Noremead Outside Michelle. Over many years they lhave also had great success in the NMR herd s competition winning many classes and have won the young stock section 5 times. The herd became runners up at last years NMR herd competition. Some of our latest achievements are 1 st dairy stock bull, 3 rd with Elsy family, 1 st 70 tonne cow, 1 st home bred heifer, 3 rd dam and 2 daughters and 1 st and 2 nd with home bred in calf heifers. Over the last 10 years we have won the SCC trophy 5 times for the lowest cell count as you will see in the catalogue. The Cows are fed on an easy system being TMR fed with grass silage, blend and straw, and topped up in the parlour on yield. Cows are cubicle trained and milked in a 6 breast parlour 2 x days. We have no doubt the stock we offer for sale will go on and be successful for their new owners as they have been for us. Griffiths Family.
